Allllll through elementary school. It was still like that when I went to college in the 90s. In fact, the first friend I made the day I moved in was my next-door neighbor, Amy. We sat together at convocation, and when they were reading all the "fun facts" about our class, they got to the most popular male and female names. Guess what the two most popular female names were... |

Sorry if any of you is named Sparkle. |
A friend of mine's mom is a special education teacher in an elementary school, so I've spent some time talking with her, etc.
One year, she had a girl on her roster named....SHITHEAD. But, it was pronounced Shi-Tay-Ed. Spelled Shithead, though. Imagine that one the first day of school or as a substitute. Never ever give your kid a name that is easily mistaken for profanity. It's just not nice. |

Just like little "Roxy Kendra" in my god-daughter's dance class. |

I want to say I knew a Princess Jasmine once
First name Princess, middle name Jasmine. |
I am afraid to post any of my kids names because they are so unique, but I am against names that sound/look like this:
Ra'ture O'rus'sa Ra'shita You get the picture. Also, people please refrain from making up names!!!! It would be nice if every parent can find the meaning of the child's name and trace it back to some language family. I know this sounds bad, but parents are setting them up for failure. As much as we try not to, I look at my class list on the first day and think to myself now Le'tootsie pop is going to be a handful! |
I went for a fairly unique name and a unique spelling for my daughter...I hope no one's like "Geeze, woman - what were you thinking?!?"
Although, now there's a Barbie princess with her name (but not spelling), so I'm sure it will increase in popularity soon. http://www.toysdirectory.com/monthly...-anneliese.jpg |

I was at the park yesterday when I kept hearing a mom call her toddler "Mav." I was hoping that I just wasn't hearing her correctly, but much to my disapointment she later yelled "Maverick _______ come back here now."
Maverick? Seriously? |

I'm sorry, but these out there names make the parents sound so trashy and low class.
|
I once knew someone who's first name was Ecclesiastes. Just like the book of the bible. Great book, but I wouldnt name my kid after it.

Actually no. She went by the whole name. I agree a nickname or middle name would be better, unless they were just as bad. She had a normal last name though. |
I work at a pediatric clinic, and one of strangest names I have ever heard was Con Air Nicholas Cage, and then the last name.

I went to elementary school with someone named "Mister." It confused me to no end. His last name was Jones or something generic like that so teachers and students were always saying "Mister Jones." I didn't understand why he got so much respect! Then, when the yearbook came out at the end of the year, I learned it was his name..
I hope he doesn't have sisters named "Miss" and "Misses." |

I have a new friend who plans to go to medical school, and she has a first name that is one of those people may take less seriously. Maybe she has a workable middle name. |

LOL! |
Jermaine Jackson has a kid named Jermajesty.
Let the records show that that's something I will never name my own child. |
Some teacher is Northeast Alabama is gonna be in trouble in a few years. A friend told us that she has met someone who has named her triplets Ayden, Brayden, and Cayden. (See earlier posts if you don't know what kids with the -ayden names do to teachers.)
|
I had a girl in a class one time named "Vaginia". It was supposed to be pronounced Vah-gin-ee-a. You can imagine how many times someone glanced at her name in print and said "vagina" without thinking.
I would've had it legally changed the second I turned 18. There's no way she doesn't get sick of people accidentally calling her "vagina". |
^^^Oh good god.
My mom was telling me the other day about how she recently registered a baby named "Queen of Egypt." Oy. |
My sister and her gf always share the unusual names of the children in their class on the first day of school. This year sister lost-- no unusual names but gf took the prize by leaps and bounds. She has a child in her class named WAFFLE. My BIL was asking if Waffle is Belgian, the friend replied no, but Waffle does have a brother and his name is FRENCH TOAST!
That actually beats a girl I graduated HS with-- her name is Twinkle Star and she was born in the '50's when the unusual names were not as common an occurrence. DaffyKD |
I read some of these and think to myself "that HAS to be made up." WAFFLE and FRENCH TOAST?!?
|
I've put this on GC before but my husband's all-time worst name and possibly student was Reptipilis. Seriously.
And he keeps getting reminded of it because ole Reptipilis' name keeps ending up in the paper; despite being close to 40, she can't stay out of trouble. :( |
To quote my kinderarten teacher friend: All Chads and Dustins have a 99% chance of being the spawn of Satan.
She also has triplets in her class named (ready?) Kamri, Lexis, and Mercedes who are complete hellions. |
