Dang...I was close! I guess people got over the Saban thing...as much as I hate him, Bama really looked good Saturday night!

CrackerBarrel 09-28-2008 07:20 PM

Georgia and Florida are still in it if they can win out. Winning out would put them at one loss with wins over the other, LSU, a Vandy team who looks surprisingly good this year and the SEC West Champ (Bama?). That should be enough to jump them back over USC (who doesn't play another ranked team), and even an undefeated USF or BYU. All the Big XII teams ahead of those 2 will take care of each other and leave at most one undefeated team. If one of UGA or UF can finish this season with only yesterday's loss, the only way they don't go to the championship game is if there is an undefeated Big XII team AND an undefeated Big 10 team. I don't see that happening (no offense Penn State fans).

Ole Miss has improved significantly with Houston Nutt on board! That Vandy team has been a surprise this year, but Ole Miss still has time to prove its worth! It really is hard to stand out when the SEC is so universally strong. GEAUX Tigers, by the way!

And then, BAM! Not so nice. :(

;) Actually, I'll be the first to say we're just getting in to the thick of the season schedule, so I'm not getting too big in our blue and white britches just yet. I am glad that Michigan is AT Penn State but then we play AT Ohio State. Ugh. (no offense, Benz ;))

And KSigkid, my husband's a Husky and he's so happy they're 5-0, he keeps trying to tell me they're "just like Penn State now". Aww. :p Yeah, but no.

Haha, it's ok - we'll take our basketball dominance...a decent football season here and there will be more than sufficient.

Coming from an undergrad with no football team, anything is an improvement.

Benzgirl 10-12-2008 11:55 AM

Any guesses on rankings now? In the "for what it's worth category", here is my ranking after yesterday's games.
1. Texas
2. Bama
3. Oklahoma
4. Penn State
5. Texas Tech

So much for our pre-season poll.

That was BAD. I said it before, and I will say it again, Rich Rodriguez' time will be very limited in Ann Arbor.

I was surprised when they hired him. It seemed like, after their first choice said no, they just grabbed whoever was interested. It's a sad state of affairs this year. My brother is traveling from Alabama to see them play in MN with a bunch of his college buddies. I'm sure they're regretting that plan now.

I was there for 65-14. Let's not pretend the Horns' faithful will stay to the bitter end. 1/2 the stadium was almost empty by the middle of the 3rd quarter. A good portion by halftime.

That's jacked up.

Congrats to the Longhorns for a great game! I honestly was cheering for Texas and glad to see the victory. Yes, they #5 team going up against #1. I was so touched by the #10 Colt McCoy who dedicated the season to his late older cousin who served in the Armed Forces (Marines, I believe) and wears his cousin's cross every game day Saturday.

Here's a link to the video: http://www.truveo.com/Colt-McCoy-Ded.../id/1730093609.

Colt is a good kid. I really hope he gets another shot at being the Holiday Bowl MVP. I sort of doubt that happens as Texas is really, really good. Muschamp is a great DC. I won't be sad or shocked to see him go to either Clemson or Tennessee.

65-13. If you're talking about 2003.

2000 was 63-14.

And in the years 2001-2004, I remember there being seats empty on the orange side from kickoff to the hat ceremony, how sad is it if you don't even show at all?

I'm not going to say that we were playing our best, especially since Texas seemed to be on. There were some questionable calls (on and for both sides) that still watching replays don't seem correct.

I stand corrected.

I attended the game from '01 to '04 and was there this year. Since '01, I've always gone down to Dallas for a mini-vacation. OU-TX is a great atmosphere whether you go to the game or not.

I don't read too much into the questionable calls. It's not like 1984.

They stayed this year because THEY WON!!! And, it was a DAMN good game, it seemed like the last team to hold the ball would win, both teams played magnificently. Who wouldn't stay? With a score of 65-14 it is pretty much a foregone conclusion that you're not going to catch up.

This year the 1/2 stadium that was empty was the Sooners, even on ABC, you could see them going up the stadium stairs, leaving like rats leave a sinking ship;).

BTW-They split the tickets 50/50, the dividing line is the 50 yard line. You can see cool clips of it on You Tube, but I don't know how to link it. There are also pictures of the "pep rally" on Texas websites.

CrackerBarrel 10-13-2008 06:52 PM

I'm not a big fan of the 50 yardline split. Georgia/Florida splits in the endzone and I think having one red side of the stadium and one blue looks cooler than the 50 yardline split.

They do the 50 at OU-Texas because the cotton bowl has more seats on one side than the other, and there are only boxes on one side.

Do they split the boxes 50/50 such that half go to OU boosters and the other half go to Texas boosters? Or does the Cotton Bowl control the boxes?

Benzgirl 10-19-2008 12:03 PM

I was a little nervous about the PSU game going into the half. I also thought Ole Miss would also have pulled it out. I expect to see Ohio State move back into the Top 10 -- Pryor did a pretty good job yesterday. Mizzou and Daniel looked really bad.

BTW NittanyAlum. Great change of siggy.

breathesgelatin 10-19-2008 09:39 PM

Dang, we rocked out this weekend. Makes me wish I'd bought tickets this year, although I think I am kinda too big and pregnant to really enjoy the games...
