Hi ConcordDZ! I'm a DZ here in Texas! Tell me more about this B. Moss store - I don't think we have those here. I am so jealous because I have been desperately searching for the imitation Tiffany stuff and I can't find it anywhere. I found a similar bracelet at TJ Maxx but it didn't have the nifty toggle closure. Anyone have any other ideas where to find it?

wishinhopin 07-26-2001 12:56 AM

Oops, put my message in the wrong spot. Just wanted to mention that the infamous Tiffany's chain link bracelet can be engraved with Greek letters for an extra price.

The real bracelet from Tiffany's doesn't have the toggle bar closure - it has a reguar claw clasp. The necklace does, however, have the toggle bar.

I found a bracelet with the heart and toggle bar at TJ Maxx in January. It just broke last weekend - the heart snapped right off

Girls, realistically...

When it comes to trendy clothing items, buy those assymetrical tops on the sale racks at your favorite stores. If you splurge on a few items, invest in a peacoat, a pair of comfy and a pair of "going out" jeans, and a pair of classic black square toed pumps. But when it comes to jewelry, ALWAYS go for quality. Buy it real and from dependable stores. This means, buy the real Tiffany's bracelet. Based upon my experience, the more upscale lines have much better customer service and product guarentees. Plus, I would rather be head to toe Ross and have a real Tiffany's bracelet and feel like a million bucks. Plus, the chain link bracelet(heart and Return to Tiffany) is only $135...that's less than a week's paycheck. Splurge, girls. You all deserve it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

wishinhopin 07-26-2001 03:38 AM

I totally agree! Some splurges are worth it. And, on a related note, don't worry if something is trendy or not. I was in Tiffany's, looking at the bracelet, and some girl was like "ugh, I don't want THAT, everyone has it". So what? I like it and it makes me happy. So buy what makes ya feel good girls!

Unregistered- 07-26-2001 04:00 AM

AAAAAAACK! I can't believe I actually did this.

Okay so I gave in.

I actually ordered catalogues for Tiffany's and Mignon Faget.

If I end up spending $$$ on new jewelry I'm going to blame you all for doing this to me! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

ConcordDZ 07-26-2001 10:36 AM

Turtlegirl,

Hello to another DZ! I always love to meet sisters from all over the world. :-)

First, about B. Moss...it is kind of a cross between the Gap and The Limited, but cheaper. They have really good quality clothes that are moderately priced when they first put them out, but they literally go on sale in a week. They're ALWAYS having some kind of sale and there's a huge area in the back of the store that has last month's markdowns for between $1 and $50. They have classic pieces that look good with everything--t-shirts, khakis, jewelry, underwear, coats, suits, formals, dresses, capris, pants, jeans, sweaters (they have GREAT sweaters)...you name it, they've got it. It's not a department store, just a retail shop. Their stores are about the size of a Bath and Body Works.

I got the bracelet there on clearance. Do you have Lerner New York stores? They have the bracelet, too, but it's just a little different. It has the claw closure and a couple of little hearts dangling with the big one. If you don't like those you can just clip them off. I got one for my big sis last week; it was on sale for $7.

About splurging on jewelry...I too love jewelry, and most of mine is high quality from the jewelry store and has been given to me by family members or boyfriends. However, when I see something like this heart bracelet that is really just a fad, I can't make myself spend $135 for something that isn't going to be in style next summer. I do have two pieces from Tiffany that I bought when I was in New York and Boston...one is a sterling silver cross necklace and the other is a sterling silver box link bracelet. When I handed over that credit card, I made sure these were items I could wear forever if I wanted. Plus, they were both under $100. As much as I would like to splurge, I have to pay for everything myself and I just can't do that. Trust me, I have expensive taste, and I hope that someday I have the money to go with it!

Emily :-)

Turtlegirl 07-26-2001 09:25 PM

Hey Everyone! Thanks for all the tips and the B.Moss info (I'm so bummed we don't have those here). I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the TJ Maxx or Lerner bracelet and necklace because I really want them. I would love to splurge on the real things but sadly, that is just not an option for me. Oh well http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.
Oh I go to to St. Mary's - where do you go Purpleturtle? I didn't make it to regionals last year but I'll be there this year http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

SunDevilGal 07-27-2001 06:52 PM

Alright here is my 2 cents on a Sorority Girls Necessities from AZ State Univ.:
1) Bebe and BCBG clothing
2) Tiffany's Jewelry- (at least the silver neclaces and bracelets rule ASU)
3) lavelier
4) Kate Spade bag
5) Cell Phone
6) Ralph Lauren shades
7) MAC make up

purpleturtle 07-27-2001 08:43 PM

Turtlegal-
I go to Tarleton. I met a bunch of your girls at Regional and they are awesome!

PS I found a version of the heart tag Tiffany & Co bracelet at Wal-Mart, and the only difference from mine (Tiffany's) was the top of the heart where it attached to the chain.

Missy

Gamma Phi Girlie 07-28-2001 01:01 AM

Staple Items:

1. Earl Jean Jacket
2. Diesel, Miss Sixty, Frankie B. and/or Earl Jeans
3. Anything Burberry-My boyfriend just bought me a matching purse and skirt : )
4. Tiffany Jewelry of course
5. Kate Spade messenger bag for text books-I also have the matching pencil case that included Kate Spade pencils and erasers!
6. Louis Vuitton Pochette
7. New Balance Tennies and Reef flip-flops for casual wear.
8. Anything BCBG
9. SUV's, BMW, Benz

Let's face it, when we are around tons of classy girls 24-7, our taste gets more refined. That's just one of the perks of being a sorority girl. Now, all in fun, I would like to discuss the anti-sorority girl(since they hate us anyway), you know, the girls you wish you could help with the major fashion no-nos:

The wardrobe of an anti-sorority girl:
1. Jeans by Bubblegum, MUDD, or Paris Blues
2. Platform shoes by Splash
3. knock-offs(the fake kate spades, gucci and louis vuitton bags, tiffany jewelry, etc. are really obvious, especially to those who own them. Trust me!)
4. Scrunchies
5.Anything from forever 21 and the likes

I know you girls out there know what I'm talking about even if it sounds a little mean. Maybe you can add to my list!

You say it's all in fun Gamma Phi, but next time you post, try and decide first if that post is going to offend some people.

I, for one:
  • shop at Forever 21, Ross, and the likes because that's ALL I (not mommy or daddy) CAN AFFORD!
  • own a few pairs of Splash
  • also own MUDD and Paris Blues jeans because they fit me better than the more expensive brands
  • head straight to the clearance sale racks whenever I shop
  • like wearing scrunchies
  • don't mind wearing non-brand jewelry
  • buy my underwear in bulk because it's cheaper (especially at VS)...don't gag because you know you do it too

This "necessities" list was started in good fun and it eventually became a place to poke fun at ourselves. However, after reading your post I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Everyone has access to these boards--and people on other message boards have already pointed out that threads like these display our materialistic and elitist ways. Thanks for giving them more reason to be against us.

Thrillhouse 07-28-2001 03:02 AM

OTW, sounds more like a joke than anything. I sure wasn't laughing.

Unregistered- 07-28-2001 03:09 AM

You know, I was thinking...

I wouldn't be surprised if Gamma Phi Girle was just some sorority poser from chickclick.com out to make us look bad.

Thrillhouse 07-28-2001 03:17 AM

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

Unregistered- 07-28-2001 03:29 AM

I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

AlphaGam1019 07-28-2001 05:08 AM

um, what's wrong with scrunchies? I must have at least 50 of them and most girls I know own at least a few :P

ZTAMich 07-28-2001 11:40 AM

I was the one who first posted a link on chickclick to here and honestly I'm almost sorry I did. A few ppl have said they had questions answered but it's just gotten so childish and immature. It really bugs me that ppl from CC would just rush (no pun) over and check out topics on a chit chat board and not something a bit more greek oriented ya know?

AlphaSigLana 07-28-2001 07:51 PM

Thank you OTW. I too agree this must be a poser. I was offended by what the Gamma Phi (?Is that right) chick had to say. yes sororites help women become classy young ladies, but money does not define class. I know many girls who may not drive a SUV or BMW, but they have plenty of class. Most college students can't afford those things mentioned. I have to save my paychecks so I can afford nice things and I still can't afford a BMW or Kate Spade. What's wrong with scrunchies? Maybe Gamma Phi wears diamonds in her hair when she works out, but most girls(yes even sorority girls) wear scrunchies.

Honey77484 07-28-2001 07:54 PM

What's Chick Click??

Gamma Phi Girlie 07-28-2001 08:13 PM

I too, am curious as to what "chick click" is.

In response to previous postings:

My point about imposters is that if I can't afford the real thing, I simply don't buy it, or some knock-off of it. It is fine to have no designer names flashing around, but it is tacky to flash obviously fake ones.

Scrunchies for bed/working out- no big deal, but on the wrist to "coordinate" with your outfit, no no!

Come on, play along, some of you obviously have good taste(whether or not you have a huge budget). You have some fashion no-nos to add to the list!

AlphaGam1019 07-28-2001 11:18 PM

haha, I don't really wear scrunchies out unless I'm really bumming (working out or lounging around at home)...
You weren't specific about it, so I thought you were saying that even owning scrunchies were tacky :P

gammazetagrl 07-29-2001 03:34 AM

When I was still in figure skating, I always wore my hair in a bun or ponytail when competing and almost always held it up with a scrunchie--that unfortunately, coordinates with my costumes....and since i probably have 8246346 scrunchies, sometimes I do wear one on a regular day just to keep my hair off my face.
I admit that with my own independence (and occasional parental generosity) I've had the privilege of shopping at Bebe,BCBG,A/X and GUess, but that doesn't mean i have a phobia from stores like Rave or Forever 21. like OTW, I am a proud shopper at Forever 21 and I even have sisters that work there during the summertime. I thanked God when I heard our mall finally had a store open up , I don't have to drive to the far mall anymore. In fact, I just bought stuff from there yesterday! They have pretty party clothes, and fine, the clothes don't scream TOMMY GIRL or something in the front but they are a good value, they have great selections and update their inventory like every other day. Maybe the reason you just don't wanna shop there, poser, is because you probably can't fit into their sizes.
:P
A real sorority girl won't put down stores that other Greeks shop at like you.

What's Forever 21?

AlphaSigLana 07-29-2001 08:14 PM

I like Charlotte Russe or I should say I did until some of their clerks were snotty. So the next time I went to that mall I shopped at Bebe and Guess. I understand that it can be a tough job, but all I was doing was buying my items and not being picky. I had asked for an application in December and it took four people before they figured out they weren't hiring even though only 2 days before they had now hiring signs up.

gammazetagrl 07-30-2001 12:01 AM

Forever 21 is a store somewhat like Charlotte Russe (only cheaper) and it sells mostly party/clubbing gear like dresses, "sorority pants" and sparkly tops, although lately they have started to carry more casual stuff too like jeans, tanks, etc. They also got some accessories as well. I am willing to bet that 95% of their stuff is under 20$...that's how cheap it is http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, I'm gonna give GPhi the benefit of the doubt here, guys. GPhi, I totally understand what you are talking about. In fact we all do. But since we are on a public forum here, it's dangerous to put out an opinion that isn't perfectly wholesome. True, all of us have looked through mags and commented on tacky outfits or even been to dances and commented on tacky dresses chosen in poor tase. There is a time and an occasion for everything though. Stores like Forever 21 are fabulous for fun exchanges when you need something you'll only wear once or twice. But for staple items, I most def agree that you should go for quality. No one wants to bash you, girl. It's just that no one wants to hurt anyone's feeling either. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

princessgin 07-30-2001 10:42 AM

I agree it's all about quality. Why buy something if you can only use it once or twice? But, there is nothing wrong with grabbing a party shirt at Charlotte Russe.... I am not that preppy & they have a lot of stuff that is my style. By the way, I for one do not own anything from Tiffany & I love my MUDD jeans... they are so worn in and comfy!!!!!!

back to what we all need: (and this is just a joke, so some of you stop taking it all that seriously!)
-a good tan
-a good haircut
-something with an abercrombie label on it
- a fraternity boyfriend
- a best guy friend (to take you to things when you and your boyfriend are fighting)
-a kate spade bag (SAM, preferably and they are cheap on Ebay)
-black boots
-black pants
-black strapless dress
-strappy black sandals
-a pack of cigarettes (even if you don't smoke a hot guy might ask you for one!)
-a lighter to light the hot guy's cigarettes
-good friends to laugh and confide in
-good sisters to laugh and confide in
-friends not in your sorority so you can complain abou it to them
-your own bar stool or table
-a favorite beer that isn;t too cheap or expensive
-good nailpolish that stays on
-be able to sing along to a favorite local band.
-be able to hold your liqour and not be a drunken idiot!
-a good job after you graduate (6 mos. grace period)so when you go back for homecoming they all go "oooooh" when you say what you do
-to know when to let go and to know when to remininse.
SHMILY! SATR!XI LOVE!

TinkerbellMTSU 07-31-2001 06:42 PM

Charlotte Russe is my *FAVE* store!!! They're always having good sales at the one at Opry Mills! I also love Aeropostale for the more casual, sporty look. Also Wet Seal is a cute store for clubbing outfits. The only reason I can afford this stuff is because I don't have a car to pay for, LOL! I don't need a car living on campus, anyhow---plenty of other people can give me rides!
Oh, I don't agree with the "pack of cigs" thing---even if the guy is hot, a guy that smokes turns me off! It really grosses me out (no offense to those of you who do smoke). I kissed a guy that smoked onetime, and it tasted like licking an ashtray! :P
And lucky those of you who have a nice tan! I have freckles and red hair, so the only way I get a tan is from a bottle (I've become an expert at it LOL).

******Here are some of my nescessities:

black flair-legged pants

black chunky-heeled shoes

**liquid eye liner!---the other kind doesn't
stay on!**

lip gloss (I hate having rough chapped lips!)

a small comb/brush that fits in your pocket

a powder compact

Nokia cell phone w/changeable faceplate and sparkly case w/strap

a nail file

small irridescent stud earrings (they'll go with anything!)

a push-up bra (you know some of you wear these, too, ladies! Don't they work wonders?)

a nice manicure and pedicure (no hangnails or calluses for me, eek!)

at least one sequined halter top for clubbing

a tiny under-the-clothes waist-pouch for toting pic. I.D. and money for clubbing
(I found one at Wal-Mart--it's barely noticeable, and you don't have to stick those in your sweaty shoe!)

several pairs of khakis (I can't live without these--they go with any shirt!)

a cute, ruffly black skirt http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

a flat-screen monitor for your computer (I found one for only $399 at HHGregg!)

Okay....I can't think of anything else right now...
