It is "more okay" to tell a very slim person (regardless of height) to "eat a cheeseburger" than it is to tell a larger person to go on a diet. Many people say that size 0 or 2 is an "unrealistic" size and they don't realize that it's just as insulting as calling someone who wears a size 12 "fat." Height-wise, short people have sometimes been mistaken for children. Don't you think it's insulting to ask a 20-something woman if she is "looking for Mommy" or being denied services, even after presenting a very real ID card?

Actually my cousin deals with this all the time. Yes it bothers him, but he's not trying to start a riot about it. he's about 5'0 and very skinny. His fiance is even tinier than him. They deal with it. OH and for the few days that I saw her, she always had super cute clothes on. Then again, they live in Staten Island so I'm not sure what their clothing style is like out there.

Maybe petite women don't like to shop in department stores because the contrast of a small women in a huge store is too great and only points out just how small they are. Short woman in a small store is a much better ratio. Don't you think?

I'm sure she has trouble finding petite clothes as well.

:(

Taualumna: Get over it or do something about it. I signed your damn petition.... but no I am thinking of removing my name from it because of the complete lack of crediablity you have.
Oh by the I am four foot eleven and no one has ever asked me if I was looking for my mom while I was shopping.:o

OH, do not get me started on bras! If you are over a D cup, it is hard to find a cute bra. If you are over a DDD, it is almost impossible to find any bra, let alone a cute one!

Well, she does live with her mom who makes her wear pants on occasion. So she probably *IS* looking for her mom while shopping.

I don't even think my sister tells my nephew, who's 5 y'all, what to wear. Obviously, he wears pants...but come on. Lil' dude has more of a spine.

Yeah, but Lil' dude has a huge, snarktastic attitude. If your sister tried to tell him what to wear, he'd probably knock her out!

Unfortunately, because I'm so tall, I don't have enough legroom while on the bus. I'm going to start a revolution.

My laughter and tears started with Valkyrie's Petitetopia ;) and then Perfect Verse's movie starring Polly Pocket kicked it up a notch.

I am surprised I haven't seen this mentioned in the thread:

Short People - Randy Newman

Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
`Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here

(Disclaimer: I'm 5'3" and I like this song. :) )

Sometimes when I ride the bus and I have to stand I bump into the pole with my mammaries and it really hurts. I DEMAND that public transportation offer padded poles for those like myself.

I resent having to stand at all. I DEMAND that there be more seats added to buses and trains. Or at least have one saved just for me!

AlphaFrog 06-02-2006 02:31 PM

What happened to Taualumna???

The plight of short people must be fought. She must stand against the oppressors. The fate of the short world rest on her coming back to inform us of how ignorant short people can't read the word "Petite" hanging over the dept. because it's just too high, and even on the tippy tippy toes cannot be seen by those who are a representative height of the oompa-loompas and the Lolly-pop Guild. For these and for the children, elderly, and little fluffy animals, she must come back and fight the opposition.

FIGHT TEH GIANTS!!

LONG LIVE TEH SMALL (minded) PEOPLE!!!

This is the best GC thread I have ever seen.

For the record, I'm 5', 19, and I have never shopped in the petites section.

Only now do I realize my mistake. Had I shopped there, my vertically-challenged sisters would not be suffering.

I feel horrible. I think I'm going to go lay in bed today and reflect on what consequence my thoughless actions have had.

It can't be your fault. You couldn't have KNOWN that petite departments existed before this thread. But now, you can reform and unite with other petites. Maybe ya'll can even stand on eachother's shoulders so you can locate the petite department in the store.

Alan Jackson likes petites. Maybe he'll join in our revolution ??

Have a little love on a little honeymoon
You got a little dish and
you got a little spoon
A little bitty house and a little bitty yard
A little bitty dog and a little bitty car

Well, it's alright to be little bitty
A little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while

A little bitty baby in a little bitty gown
It'll grow up in a little bitty town
Big yellow bus and little bitty books
It all started with a little bitty look

Well, it's alright to be little bitty
A little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while

You know you got a job and
a little bitty check
Six pack of beer and a television set
Little bitty world goes around and around
Little bit of silence and a little bit of sound

A good ole boy and a pretty little girl
Start all over in a little bitty world
A little bitty plan and a little bitty dream
It's all part of a little bitty scheme

It's alright to be little bitty
A little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while

It's alright to be little bitty
A little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while

I had such a boring day with no internet connection at a deposition.... I am now in tears. I am SO proud of you guys! lol. This thread will live on as one of the great comedic threads of GC.

Pretty much most of the comments I had to make were already made in this thread.

I hope that some people marry a very wealthy man who can afford to have her clothes custom made for her, and she can stay at home so that her stupidity and total, utter lack of logic can be kept behind clothes doors where it belongs.

It's times like this where I really heart GC

Funny thing is that the episode of What Not to Wear that's on right now has a VERY petite woman on it. 4 foot 6. She's finding things that fit her just fine. The pants need hemmed, but that's going to happen no matter what. And stuff looks GOOD on her

I remember this episode!! She was very cute but she did have some horrid clothes before Stacey and Clinton worked with her. :)

SoCalGirl 06-02-2006 11:02 PM

That's because she didn't realize there was a Petite's department!
