Tom Earp 05-03-2008 01:11 PM

John agree and we have been hearing for years about the upgrade of it!

I got on but tried again today and same as everyone else, zip!

Bob did a great job and again after much harping it was great to see where we will be going back and re opening Zetas. This was something a long time in coming.

We are to big with to many Brothers to have a half ass web site.

This is a major selling tool for LXA that lasts for a very long time for those PNMs who are searching the web for schools and Fraternities.

Trey_P-I_47 05-03-2008 01:58 PM

I dont understand it either John. We were supposed to be getting a new website as well and i have yet to see that released. Ive heard certain people or chapters have access to it, but im wondering whats the holdup on that. The site now is aggravating and confusing its a wonder its still operational. Personally i search google and they usually direct me to the right LXA page rather than sifting through the site.

Also, is a new directory supposed to come out, cause i thought that was on the agenda as well?

Seems like this stuff should all be finished by Centennial so we can make a good impression on all of the people who are gonna show up and be looking for some new fire as it were. Maybe rekindle what was there when they were undergrads.

Very astute and excellent point!

Frustration keeps setting in!

The 'back story' on IT

Years ago we bought some data management software, I believe it was known as 'IMIS' that was supposed to solve all our problems. We mortgaged the farm on the damn thing and it never did work worth a damn. I suspect that our IT dollars were sunk into IMIS which precluded improvements in other technology. But IMIS is long since dead and buried and we need something - anything - 'cause anything is better than what we've got now!

JonoBN41 05-03-2008 06:03 PM

Paper?

I received the following on March 25. "The website/iMIS database access apparently was too much to deliver in the set time period. The plan now is to deliver a website w/out the database, which I know isn't what you want to hear. The timeframe is to deliver the first phase of a new website by this summer."

As for the magazine, I think I'll pull out a Purple, Green and Gold from 1914, which - believe it or not - I can actually read!

JonoBN41 05-03-2008 10:30 PM

The Cross & Crescent is back on line.

Apparently, the problem was due to a web hosting glitch and related software upgrades that hadn't happened. Thanks go to Tad, Chris, and a couple more tech-savvy brothers who worked hard to solve the problem and get it going again.

A Possible Article?

Wonder if an article on the current state of LXA IT would be appropriate for the C & C. Nuts and bolts stuff like whether we maintain our own server(s), the extent to which membership and financial data is linked, how our databases interface with the web site, that sort of thing. If there is interest, hell, I might even write it.

I would be very interested in such an article, regardless of author. It's the kind of thing upon which computer nerds thrive! I don't know why it would be inappropriate for CandC to write about, though it would be interesting to see the background of our IT infrastructure (and problems we've been facing).

The June Issue of the C&C Magazine is On-Line

Brothers,

The June issue is on-line. There seems to be a small glitch right now. If you don't get the front page of the June issue just click on "June" to the right side of the of the front page of the May issue.

I am sure they are busy correcting this small problem.

Have you ever heard of Beta Kappa Nu?

Read about it in the June C&C!

Mike Raymond,

July issue

The July issue appears to be on line at

http://www.crossandcrescent.com

HOWEVER: That link takes you to the front page of the June issue; use the link at the right of this page to take you to July.

All Is Well!

Brothers,

The new issue is up and running. Once again the deadline was met. I think the content and layout are well done. I understand that the cover has been done using a new process.

Enjoy and remember the price paid for our civil liberties.

If I may express my opinion, this stuff is getting to be a little much. It seems every day there's something on TV or in the papers about our fallen soldiers, fallen police officers, fallen firefighters. Honoring our heroes is fine and it's necessary, but done too much it becomes numbing, not to mention depressing. We have holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day for such recognition.

The Fourth of July should be a happy time to celebrate the courage our country's founders had when declaring our independence (the fighting came later), and it should be celebrated as such. In my opinion morbidly including accounts from much later wars is gratuitous and inappropriate.

With the economy the way it is - and it's going to get worse - we need a little happiness, and we better learn how to be happy in spite of the weepiness that is so prevalent these days.

The articles and the stories they tell were great, don't get me wrong. They just appeared in the wrong issue.

Celebrate this weekend. Have a Happy Fourth of July!

Have you ever heard of Beta Kappa Nu?

Brother Raymond,
Our Chapter, Lambda-Iota Zeta at UW-Whitewater was originally founded known as Beta Kappa Nu in 1929. Of course, it was a local organization, but it would be great if there were some local connection.

Please PM me with any intel you have.

It's Back!

Brothers & Friends,

The October Cross & Crescent Magazine was posted today and on time for nearly three years!

Other Greek magazines are now following our lead. Once again Lambda Chi Alpha is a pioneer in the Greek world.

This is a "special" issue with expanded coverage of sports. Read about our Olympic athletes.

The coverage about our Centennial year is worth a look. I plan on attending a number of our regional celebrations. I can't wait to see that Lambda Chi cigarette!

What about the "Fez?" I hope it makes it to a few celebrations.

Hey, John! I was at IHQ two weeks ago and I displayed the "Fez" on my head.

It didn't fit.... It was either too small or my head was too big. In any case, it was a great thrill for me!

John, you need to wear it at the Centennial Celebration in Indy next summer!

Read the October C&C, you will like it!

Mike, "I Think My Head Is Too Big," Raymond,

The Fez

The next time I visit Indy I will have to have a picture taken of me wearing that damn fez! That has to be the most talked about artifact in the place!

November Cross and Crescent

Brothers,

The latest issue of the Cross & Crescent magazine has arrived. You will like it!

This marks the third anniversary issue of the on-line version of the magazine.

This effort represents approximately 576 pages of new information about our fraternity.

This also represents at least 16 issues of the magazine when it was in its printed phase of production.

So, 16 issues of the C&C in three years....

Not a bad track record.

Thanks to Tad, Chris, Jono, and other volunteers.

No matter how you look at it, the magazine has not missed a deadline in three years.

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond,
Zeta-Upsilon Zeta

Why I am lucky enough to see the printed Material from many other GLOS, they only come out quarterly and I love seeing ours monthly as it keeps we as Brothers updated.

A Brother from CEMO, SEMO, K U, KSU, and so many others who are My Brothers.

What school are you from? These are Missouri schools closer to the west side; I would guess Mizzou or MST. Or you could turn your PM option on...

Pssst. Since rjrkid = Tom Earp, I'm guessing the correct answer is Pittsburg State.

Benzgirl 11-03-2008 06:04 PM

RJR = tobacco = Earpus.

rjrkid 11-03-2008 06:32 PM

I am sorry if you are refering to me.

My name is Corry and I have no clue who you are and do not care.

I am a friend of Tom Earp and he told me there may be problems with this site and another. I signed up on both and have found a big difference between the two.

I came on this site to talk with my brothers and now I find you.

So, now, I wonder why? Who are you? I do not think You are a LXA?

Am I right?

Wow-

Tommy is coming back under new screen names.

The Cross & Crescent magazine has been posted.

What a nice article about LX Z. Yes tom earp looks old because he is.

As a Brother of his, I never understood why he was banned on this site?

He is a true member of not only LXA but of greeks all over.

I hope in the future he would be asked to come back to this site. Why I do not know if he would ever want to.

Just B B.

C'mon Tom. You know why you were banned.

And we don't know why you want to keep coming back either, but plainly you do want to. How many new user names is this now?

Is everyone on this site as paranoid as you seem to be?

You and others seem to see tom earp hiding behind any and every new poster on this site.

Gracious.

Hardly any and every new posters -- just the ones whose posts contain the awkward grammar and random capitalization (like here and here) that are hallmarks of Earp's posts. Phrases like these
  • He is a true member of not only LXA but of greeks all over.
  • You and others seem to see . . . .
  • Yes and do it. Tired of dead beats getting spiff Government money to do drugs.
  • It is mine and others money via tax who are paying for it!
just sound way too much like Earp. ;)

Why do you have a fixation on Tom Earp?

Do you have a problem with him? What has he ever done to you?

I have no clue what your problem is but you seem to be adiment about him.

If you would not mind, can you explain a bit/lot more or are you to afraid?

B B!

LOL. I'm neither fixated on nor "adiment" about him.

He's just a never-ending source of amusement.
