BV Buzz learned some good news recently from John Salley. The former NBA star pointed out that the sexual assault and battery charges filed against him had been dropped more than a month ago.

In the suit, a woman, Laura Azevedo, claimed Salley subjected her to a "possessive, jealous, controlling and abusive" extra-marital relationship and eventually assaulted her violently, leading to serious injuries. In addition she claimed the abusive treatment caused her to have an MRI, which revealed a torn knee ligament that required surgery, all allegedly paid for by Salley.

"People were quick to report about the bad news, but news of the case being dropped went out on the wire a month ago, and I haven't heard anyone talk about that," griped Salley.

Hollywood vet Blair Underwood stars opposite Richard T. Jones ('The Wood'), Andre Royo ('The Wire') and Chenoa Maxwell ('Hav Plenty') in the movie 'G.' While the film is inspired by the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald story 'The Great Gatsby,' Underwood confessed to BV Buzz that Jay-Z, Russell Simmons and Sean (now known as Diddy) Combs were his inspirations for the film.

"They all vacation in The Hamptons and have homes in The Hamptons," he explained.

The independent feature, produced by Andrew Lauren, son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren, opened in limited release on Sept. 16, and Underwood hopes it offers a varied look at African-American life. "It's very different! This film allowed us to show some kind of balance in what is provided to the audience," he said.

The sometimes-caftan-covered candle burner was upset that a veteran R&B quintet was slated to close the show and demanded a switch-a-roo. When organizers balked at the request and punished everyone by making the opening act go last, the thirtysomething songstress hid out in her dressing room until she was good and ready, causing the show to go overtime by more than 90 minutes.

... For whatever reason, there's some beef with sound-alike rappers Mase and Loon. Both are former Bad Boy Entertainment acts who bolted from the label. Mase ditched Diddy to first find God and to most recently join G-Unit. Loon left for alleged creative differences. Apparently the two rappers have a long rocky history, though things had been pleasant in recent months. But after Mase supposedly recorded a track for G-Unit taking shots at Loon, he retaliated with a series of his own dis tracks. On one, an almost-three minute track titled 'You Heard,' Loon lyrically assaults Mase with rhymes like: "Yo pastor, I thought you seen light?/ It just don't seem right/ The world thought you had an epiphany/ All you doing is spending church money in Tiffany's." This is bound to get messier!

... Brian McKnight will star in a new stage play called 'Cheaters.' The production, based on the Eric Jerome Dickey book of the same name, will also star Lou Gossett Jr., Michael Jai White and Tammy Townsend. The play premieres Oct. 8 in Raleigh, N.C., and has scheduled dates in New York, Detroit, Philadelphia and Houston.

... The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual fashion show is highly anticipated this year thanks to Diddy's baby's mother, Kim Porter. The part-time model and Three Brown Girls (Porter's partners Eboni Elektra and Nicole Johnson) are overseeing the show. Vivica A. Fox, Outkast's Big Boi, Tichina Arnold, Malik Yoba, BET News' Jacque Reid and the ubiquitous Fonzworth Bentley are among the celebrity models for the show. Diddy himself will be honored with the 2005 Fashion Ambassador Award. The show will also feature performances by R&B veterans Guy, jazz artist Eric Lewis and Carl Thomas. Proceeds from the fashion show will go toward the CBC Spouses College Scholarship Fund.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher got hitched in a secret ceremony Saturday night at a private home in Beverly Hills, before about 100 of their closest friends and family members attended. Sharon Osbourne Has Been Fighting Bulimia

The drama never ends in the Osbourne household. Ozzy Osbourne's manager and wife Sharon is fighting a battle against bulimia, 35 years after first developing the eating disorder. The mother-of-three is receiving treatment for the disease, which has effected her life since her teenage years. Sharon says, "Ozzy and the children know and they get so upset for me. They are terrified for me. I'm still bulimic. It's bad, but I'm really trying to get better. I stuff myself with ice cream or pasta, then rush to the loo and make myself sick.” She says, "I've had a weight problem since I was a child. I was fat, thin, fat, up and down. Some people do drink and drugs, but for me it's food, food, food. It's about having low self-esteem. I resisted therapy for years, but now I see a therapist once a week and if it's bad I do a phone session. I used to vomit four times a day. Now it's once a week, which is a huge improvement."

I say congratulations, too, but there's something sort of unseemly about this. Ashton is goofy (why am I remembering the Punk'd episode with Shaq Daddy?) and seems like he should be ravishing Demi's oldest girl.:p

RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) -- R&B crooner D'Angelo, who won over America with his '90s soul ballads only to fade after bouts with the law and drugs, was critically injured in a car wreck outside his hometown of Richmond.

D'Angelo, 31, born Michael Eugene Archer, was in a 2003 Hummer sport utility vehicle on September 19 when it crossed the roadway and struck a fence, ejecting the singer, State Police Sgt. Kevin Barrick said Monday. Archer wasn't wearing a seat restraint, Barrick said.

Barrick said Archer was initially listed in critical condition.

The singer's attorney and business adviser, L. Londell McMillan, Monday released a statement about D'Angelo.

"D'Angelo is home and doing well. ... His spirit is very positive and he is blessed that the accident was not fatal," said the statement.

Officials at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where the Grammy-winning artist was flown after the wreck, said the family had asked that his condition not be released.

Another person, Lynne Sellers, also was injured in the wreck. Police couldn't say which of the two had been driving.

The accident occurred in Powhatan County, a bedroom community west of the city. Archer lives in Midlothian, just outside Richmond.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Barrick said.

Known for hits such as "Brown Sugar" and a cover of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'," Archer rode a wave of popularity that culminated with a Grammy in 2001 for best male R&B vocal performance for "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" from the album "Voodoo," which won a Grammy for best R&B album.

In April, the singer was fined $250 and given a 90-day suspended jail term on a driving under the influence of alcohol conviction. His driver's license was suspended for one year.

On a marijuana charge, Archer was fined $50 and given a 10-day suspended jail term. His driver's license was suspended for an additional six months.

Earlier this month, he received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of cocaine possession. Archer had faced three years in prison.

That looks like a really bad accident. I hope that DAngelo reevaluates some of his choices in life. He hasn't been doing too well lately.

I forgot that Sharon Osbourne got her stomach stapled. And she had cancer a few years ago too. I really hope she gets better. After overcoming cancer it would be a real shame to be killed by an eating disorder.

R. Kelly, Wife Separate — Petition For Restraining Order Tells Of Alleged Abuse

R. Kelly's got another chapter of marital drama to sing about — but this time, it's from his own life.

Earlier this month, Kelly's wife, Andrea, was granted an emergency protective order to keep the singer away from her, claiming physical abuse, harassment, stalking and interfering with her personal liberty. She had written in her petition that she didn't want any contact with him "at all, by any means." When that order expired on Friday, she asked for it to be dismissed instead of extended — but she's since hired one of Chicago's top divorce attorneys, Donald Schiller, who told MTV News that while Andrea Kelly hasn't filed for divorce, the couple are now separated and she's moved out of their home.

"My wife and I had a heated argument, and we are now in the process of working it out," R. Kelly said in a statement released Monday (September 26). "We hope that the press and public will give us the time and privacy we need to resolve this very personal situation."

In Andrea Kelly's petition to the court, however, she referred to not one but several such heated arguments, including one in which she asked for a divorce. She wrote that Kelly "snapped" at her because a man turned up in the background of a photo she took with her children in Miami in August, and that two days after that, he "snapped" at her again, because of a comment she made about a man in a magazine.

"Last summer I was slapped for lying to him," she wrote in the petition to get the restraining order, "and we made up, but I asked for a divorce and he pinned me down and continued to hit me, yelling, 'Don't you leave me! Why are you leaving me?' He says, 'I'm sorry, I'm not a wife-beater, my hand was open. It's not like I did it for no reason. You made me do it.' "

Andrea Kelly, who married the singer in 1996 and has three children with him, wrote that she never called the police because "I thought it would get better."

Schiller declined to discuss the matter in detail but said Andrea Kelly has "adequate protection" now. As for whether she would seek full custody of the couple's children, Schiller said, "She's certainly been a devoted mother, that's been her role throughout the marriage, and I would be surprised if she didn't continue being that."

R. Kelly's rep stressed that while each side has retained counsel, "It's not a divorce proceeding."
