I ended up getting off very early from work today :D so I went to the BE boutique. Got a new jar of fairly light foundation (anyone interested in swapping for a virtually full large Medium foundation?), a jar of the light Rare Minerals, Kanani Buxom gloss (a stunning pink!), and a sample of Gal Pal and the new Rare Minerals facial cleaner.

I use the fairly light shade and light for rare minerals as well. I'll have to check out that buxom gloss. The buxom gloss that comes witht he face fashion kit is an outstanding color (at least for me) :)

i've been thinking about switching to Bare Minerals but i'm kinda antsy about it because like adpiucf i'm super fair (i.e. if i stay out in the sun too long, i'll burn, peel, and go back to being super fair)

the thing i was wondering is what colors should i try etc...??? i have super dark brown hair (think catherine zeta jones dark) and eyes that have the tendency to change colors with whatever color i'm wearing that day... so yeah.

texas*princess 04-19-2008 12:02 PM

wow.

i suck at using BM eyeshadows. I tried 'foiling' to practice and ended up looking like a dragqueen... lol

i've pretty much given up and gone back to using clinque on my eyes.

Foiling takes even less product than applying dry. If you use too much with foiling then you'll get the dragqueen effect.

I really like buying the eye shadows in the kits because it gives directions on how and when to apply them best. As with all bare minerals products it truly only takes a very small amount of product (usually what little is in the lid when you take the lid off the pot).

Thanks so much for the info ThetaPrincess!

I think I may have been a little to ambitious to try foiling right off the bat. I got the "get started eyes" kit, foiling tutorial kit, and the meet the stones.

Like everything else, I guess practice makes perfect!!!

AOIIalum 04-20-2008 12:32 PM

I've only had luck with foiling very light colors, and I agree that practice makes perfect with this technique. I usually apply shadows dry though, but will wet line (or foil, I guess) liners a lot.

To be honest, though, it took over a year before I felt confident wetlining! :)

it took me a while to master their eyeliner in general. I was so used to using a pencil it took me some time to get used to it in powder form with an eyeliner brush. It took longer than that for me to master wet lining as well :)

My personal preference with any kind of foiling is to make sure the brush is damp not wet. I run it quickly under water at the sink, squeeze out excess, and then brush back and forth with it a few times on my washcloth before i put it in the lid (I also check a little bit first on the back of my hand as well so I know I have the desired amount on my brush).

Lip Buzz Kit

Have anyone tried the Lip Buzz Kit? Like it?

AOIIalum 06-22-2008 05:07 PM

I don't have it but the colors look gorgeous!

Tippiechick 06-22-2008 07:57 PM

I am ADDICTED to a company called Everyday Minerals. I have fair olive skin and couldn't find any mineral or wet foundation to match me. This company will give you a sample of 3 foundations, cheek or eye color, and a concealer for free. I just pay the shipping. Yeah, I know I sound like an infomercial. But, I sing the praises of this company and their cheap prices as much as possible.

I can't say I like loose eye and cheek color. I end up making a HUGE mess. But, I cannot live without my mineral makeup.

I also LOVE Sheer Cover concealer in light and extra light. BUT, I cannot stand how they will only sell it to you if you join their "club" and get regular monthly shipments that bilk you out of as monch money as possible.

adpiucf 06-22-2008 08:41 PM

I'm still not 100% on liking this stuff.... I'm using the Fairly Light foundation and I like that my face doesn't feel greasy. I will say that I used it for a wedding a few weeks back and got tons of compliments that the photos looked very pretty and natural!

I have the eyes kit and recently added "hottie" to my collection (I think this could also be used as a bronzer for fairer women)... still playing a lot with colors... I also bought Summer Bisque to use as a concealer...

I also use the Fairly Light and Summer Bisque. But what I LOVELOVELOVE is the Mineral Veil! :D

Fleur de Lis 06-22-2008 10:40 PM

I love the Buxom lip gloss. I have a hard time finding the right lip color, and it is perfect for me. Also, it stays on for a long time.

summer_gphib 06-22-2008 10:54 PM

I just bought the Golden Medium Foundation and it looks so much better with my skintone than the Medium Beige or the Medium foundation. Both were way too pink for my skin.

I also really like Well Rested concealor.

I went to the botique on Friday, and was in LOVE. I drug my husband inside, and he actually was like "wow all those color things (eyeshadows) are really pretty." *lmao*

BLUPERFECTION03 06-22-2008 11:22 PM

I went to Ulta yesterday to re-up on my foundation and tinted mineral veil. When I noticed that the Deep Foundation is now called Golden Deep..I almost cried when I thought they discontinued my shade. ;) I love the mineral veil as well because I can be quite shiny in the summer time..but my favorite is the well rested shadow/concealer (i call it crack for your eyes).

AOIIalum 06-23-2008 06:30 AM

I was so excited on Friday because our new boutique opened, we've now got two of them in my area! This one is only 20 or minutes away, so I'm in heaven. Even better was that it was Friends and Family weekend, so 20% off plus I had a full punch card plus they were running 3 shadows for $36. Yay me! I got Gal Pal, Soiree and Queen Linda plus a Maximum Coverage Face Brush. If you don't have that brush and love Mineral Veil, get it! The pores around my nose disappeared after using it for MV, and it did a good job concealing some larger areas of discoloration on my face.

I think they added 3 or so new shades a couple of months ago. I want to try the Golden Beige (or was it Golden Medium Beige?) because that looks almost exactly like the Medium Beige/Tan that I mix together to match my skin tone.

Re: maximum coverage brush-- yes this brush is awesome! I have one and mainly use it with my summer bisque as a concealer brush

BLUPERFECTION03 06-23-2008 07:58 PM

I noticed that whenever I wash my brushes with their gentle cleanser shampoo, my brushes seem really dry and a lilttle coarse after they dry. Then when I go to apply my foundation with my full kabuki brush my coverage seems a little off (like my face looks a little ashy). I think they need to come out with some sort of oil to help maintain that brand new soft brush feel!

Most brushes are made out of hair..right? You should maybe try dabbing on just a tiny bit of conditioner right after washing?

Just an idea.

Fleur de Lis 06-23-2008 10:54 PM

I use the Sephora brush cleaner, which you spray on, wipe with a cotton ball, then rinse. My brushes have maintained their "new" quality and actually apply better when I've cleaned them recently. Maybe it's just time for a new cleaner?

BLUPERFECTION03 06-24-2008 02:59 PM

^^I think I may give that a try

bluefish81 08-16-2008 03:48 PM

I started using BM a few weeks ago because my previous makeup wasn't covering up some new scars that I received from my summer camping accident. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting around so long to try this stuff. I LOVE IT! And you can't see either of my facial scars, which I was super self conscious about before I started using this stuff. Now I just need to figure out which eye shadows to buy...

I had the opposite experience...I have light scars from zits and they do NOTHING to cover them up..and I had it done by a professional. So...yeah. Probably won't be buying them.

What is foiling?

Fleur de Lis 09-04-2008 11:06 AM

I just got the Natural Light with Well-Lit and Back-Lit, and I was SHOCKED how well it worked. The Back-Lit especially; I put it under my eyes and down the side of my nose to the edge of my mouth. I don't really have wrinkles, but somehow it just makes my face look brighter and smoother. It also works nicely as an eye shadow for the crease part. The Well-Lit I also use as eye shadow and it really brightens my eyes. Highly recommended!

AOIIalum 09-04-2008 03:39 PM

Natural Light really is an overlooked product. Although the instructions say to use it as the last step in your routine, but I've ignored that too. I've mixed the two shades together to buff under my foundation and I've also tapped a bit of it into my lid with my foundation. This might work best if you're a lighter foundation shade, but these seem to help on those days when my skin really needs a pick-me-up.

ThetaPrincess24 09-09-2008 02:08 PM

Has anyone tried the lash builder?

MeezD,

Basically, it's wetting the brush to apply your shadow - gives it a "shinier" look.

Anyone use the vitamins for the skin or eye rever upper? I got it in a kit from qvc last time it was on. I think the skin vits are breaking me out, but maybe it's pulling impurities from the skin?

It could be the skin rever upper. It didn't work well for me either. If I recall correctly, it has either salicylic acid or glycolic acid in it, which could irritate your skin, particularly if you're using any sort of other products containing retinols or additionaly salicylic or glycolic. I have to avoid products containing those ingredients since I use a night treatment with retinol in it.

hmmmm. . . thanks. I'm using Cetaphil (facial wash and moisturizer) and am not sure what ingredients are in that - I'll have to go check.

Oh, Cetaphil probably doesn't have any of that in it. You may just be sensitive to the ingredient.

Literally just now checked for it. I should have known that it didn't because it's basically for those with sorta sensitive skin anyway, right? You know, dermatologist recommended and all that?

Thanks for your help with this. Even when I first started using BE, I broke out a little, but kept using it until my skin adjusted. With this, I don't know.

Has anyone tried these new sets from sephora:

Go Bare
Ruby Collection
Extreme Glimmers
Bare Pleasures
Lip color palette

AOIIalum 09-30-2008 04:32 PM

No, but I really want the Ruby Collection. It looks stunning! I got last fall's version of the Bare Pleasures and really liked it. These are the mini jars, so they're perfect for traveling. I won't be getting the lip palette though, because I don't like the new formulation of their lipsticks. Colors are great, but they seem a bit drying to me.

i have a few of the lipsticks. I havent noticed drying but that may be because I put clear gloss over all of my lipsticks to give shine and the illusion of fuller lips.

I bought the "Get Started" kit tonight @ Sephora. I've used up a BM sample and it was time to buy some more. I really loved the sample this summer, it was a tad too dark for me normally but worked ok while I was tanner than normal. I'm excited to start using the kit!

I just bought the "Get Started" kit at our new Ulta and so far, I LOVE it! It is by far better than any other makeup I have ever tried. I had the fight a woman for the last one in the lightest shade and it was SO worth it!

I bought the Ruby kit this morning from Sephora and after playing with it I msut say I LOVE IT!! I recommend this kit if you are thinking about it but dont have it yet. :)

Has anyone experienced breakouts due to using Bare Minerals? About a month ago, I started wearing the foundation and Mineral Veil almost daily, with the primer underneath. I wash my face daily nightly. But I've still noticed a ton of little pimples all over my face - mostly on my forehead. I've used Lush Tea Tree Water toner for a year, and Olay face wash forever. Could anything in BM be causing the breakouts?
