However if it was supposed to be Faith's version (which I don't think I've heard enough...) then so be it.

Yep. That's exactly why is sounded SO country. She really did a good job on Faith's version.

I heard Faith's version before I ever heard Janis' version. The two really do sound very different.

After hearing Janis, though, nothing compares...

But, I DO think she did a good job. I like that she took the two versions and combined them. It was a nice twist.

I just don't think the judges were familiar with Faith's version. Maybe someone will let them listen to it before tomorrow's show. For them to claim to know about more genres than just pop they sure don't seem to know about country.

I am totally with you. Boo to the Judges for not knowing what was going on. BUT, as much as I love Carrie, she could've mentioned something to the Judges regarding her Faith Hill rendition.

My all-around favorites
Carrie Underwood
Lindsey Cardinale
Jessica Sierra
Mikalah Gordon
Amanda Avila, an impressive performance tonight

I was thinking the same thing at first, but then I thought that maybe she didn't want to come across like she's making whiny excuses.

I didn't know it was Faith Hill, but I knew I had heard a country version of that song before. I can't believe the judges didn't have a clue that there already existed a country version of it! I thought Carrie did a good job. She's still my favorite female.

Now, I did not know that there had been a country remake of that song. Old hippie that I am, I thought she was just jacking with a rock and roll classic.

LeslieAGD 03-02-2005 11:35 AM

To begin with, it sounded like they were having microphone problems because almost everyone was fading in and out.

Aloha - Awful...I didn't really think she was all that great last week either, but this week she just stunk.

Lindsey - Same as Aloha, they were both forgettable.

Jessica - I really like her for some reason. Even though she had a few off notes, it was overall a good performance and better than last week.

Mikalah - She can sing, but I don't like her at all. At least she was less annoying this week (like Simon said, it's because she didn't talk).

Celena - Another forgettable performance; I think it's her week to go.

Nadia - I just don't get the buzz around her (same as Fantasia, I didn't like her either). She has a good voice, but I don't see any real personality or anything that makes me interested in her voice or her style.

Amanda - I think she totally redeemed herself this week. She has the star look and personality. I hope she continues to improve and win over the voters.

Janay - Much better song choice for her, but doesn't connect with the audience/camera. She looks uncomfortable on stage. She *may* last one more week because she was featured so much early on, she improved, and a lot of her competition had blah performances.

Carrie - I didn't see what the big deal was about Carrie last week, but I did like her this week. I thought it was a good song choice and she had presence.

Vonzell - Not great at all, but she did enough to stay in this week. She might even make the top six girls if others continue to do badly or if the voters get sick of all the country-sounding girls.

My choices to go this week are:
Celena and Janay (alternate - Lindsey)

I thought so, too. The band sounded like it was drowning out Lindsay.

shadokat 03-02-2005 12:22 PM

I only got to see the first five girls go tonight, because I had a meeting. I thougth Lindsey, Jessica and as much as it pains me, Mikalah were all good...Aloha, blech. Celena, boring. I missed Carrie, although I bet she was great, as I thought she was the best girl of the bunch last week.

Guys to go tonight: GOD please let it be constantine and maybe scott or travis

Girls to go tonight: i hope janay, and aloha. I don't like either of them.

p.s. Anthony Federov's parents and family were on Good Day Philadelphia this morning...so sweet! I know he's not even close to the best, but it'd be nice to see a hometown guy make it far!! Just not fall apart like Justin Guarini!!

I noticed that too..so when the judges mentioned Janis Joplin, I was thinking "wha......????"

I apparently never knew Janis Joplin sang this song... so I was confused when the judges were talking about her "making the song hers" b/c I thought it was a really nice rendition of Faith Hill's cover.

She sounded great though, I hope she makes it further into the competition

chideltjen 03-02-2005 01:29 PM

Re: Carrie and the judges

I'm going to put on my tinfoil hat for this one. Now that I am reading that Carrie sang Faith's version rather than Janis' version, but the judges critiqued her as singing Janis' version... I smell something fishy.

I would think the judges get a list of the songs and original artists. Carrie could have gone through rehearsals with the Faith arrangement all set for her but someone "forgot" to tell the judges that she was singing "Piece of My Heart" written by Janis Joplin, arranged by Faith Hill. I think that last part was somehow nixed from the judges notes. Because the judges seemed clueless.

xo_kathy 03-02-2005 01:33 PM

OK, I'm not even 30 yet and all you folks saying "I didn't even know Janis Joplin sang that song" is making me feel really old! :p I can't imagine ever equating that song with anyone BUT Janis!!! Maybe I'm not old, maybe it's just my hippie mom's influence!!

texas*princess 03-02-2005 02:09 PM

I think someone clued in the judges about Carrie & her version of the song.

Paula is on "Good Morning Live" and they are talking about all of yesterday's preformances. They came to Carrie and the show hosts were saying something about Janis Joplin and Paula said "Actually I think that is a Faith Hill version" that she was trying to do.

But what about all of those folks out there that had no clue last night when voting and relied on the judges and their critiques? I hope this doesn't mean that Carrie gets voted off. That would be a damn shame.

I honestly tried to make up for it by voting for Carrie a few times. What is so dumb is if we knew as the audience that she was doing the Faith Hill version, how could the judges not!!!!!

Derrr.

Haha! Oh well. They don't exactly seem like the type of people to listen to country music. Hopefully those in the know voted last night.

I'm only 24 and I've never heard the Faith Hill version so don't feel too bad. This could be because my father would constantly listen to his late 60's/early 70's music when I was little. He still has all his record albums from his college days!

I completely 100% agree with you on this. I would rather see a final of all men than have the weaker women up there boring the hell out of me like they have so far.

texas*princess 03-02-2005 11:13 PM

Bah!

I really wish Janay got voted off! She always looks confused and uncomfortable on stage, and I'm not a big fan of her singing voice.

dzandiloo 03-03-2005 01:01 AM

I have no problem w/Aloha and Celena being gone before the final 12, but if Janay makes it into the final 12, I will lose complete faith with America. GRRR. IMO, she and Amanda Avila need to go next week.

Oh, and how lame was it that Joe blamed his "lack of exposure" for being voted off? Hello, Joe? Meet Bo Bice. Yeah, we barely saw him before the final 12...in fact until last week, he was just "the other rocker"...now he's leaving people in his dust. It's called being memorable. Sad to see David go--he missed a chance to really shine. Oh well..... Next week, Travis & Constantine bite the dust. (I wish...Connie will probably make it to top 12, and I can't think of another guy I think deserves to be gone).

SSS1365 03-03-2005 10:15 AM

Overall, I'm fine with the results last night. The only thing is that Janay should definitely have gone home. Maybe next week. Joe was definitely lame with that "I didn't get enough exposure" crap. Melinda Lira pulled the same thing when she got voted off. They need to stop with the excuses and just accept the fact that they are not as good as some of the others. Constantine should go home, but too many teenagers think he's cute for some unknown reason. Because of this, he'll be around longer than he should.

ZTAngel 03-03-2005 10:18 AM

I'm surprised that Janay is still around. She definitely needed to go before Aloha. I agree with Simon that Aloha deserved to stay for another week or two.

I really, really, really hope Constantine goes next week. I can't stand him and his ass chin.

AXO Alum 03-03-2005 10:33 AM

Please leave poor Travis alone - he is SUCH a cutie pie, and I adore his voice. As in - put the album out today and I will buy it. Also remember that he fits 19E's mold perfectly for singing cookie-cutter songs!

I was jumping for joy - both boys that I wanted gone are gone (although a "surprise" outing for Constannoying would have been great!) and both girls too. I never liked Celena or Aloha from the start, and now I don't hafta watch them :D

Next week I wish they would get rid of Constannoying and Anthony. They won't though because the teeny-bopper collection has speed dial working for them.

How can anyone watch Constannoying and Bo both perform, and think that Constannoying is actually a "rocker" -- he ISN'T!! He just has long hair and likes to hop around. Watch Bo during the performances - his vocals do not change with the amount of "work" he does on stage. He kicked butt and I'd love to see him stay.

Girl list still stays long for going home. In fact, my fav 3 are still there: Carrie, Nadia, and Vonzell -- the others can all go home now.

Boys are MUCH better -- now if they will just stop singing the Stevie Wonder songs.....

BetteDavisEyes 03-03-2005 11:22 AM

I hope Mikala & Janay leave next week. Janay is not in the same league as others in the competition. She looks terrified everytime she's on the stage. I do not like Mikala's vocals at all. Everytime she sings, it sounds like Fran Drescher singing & it's annoying.

shadokat 03-03-2005 11:54 AM

While I liked Joe, I was sad to see him go, but his excuse was pretty lame. I was surprised by David...I really didn't think Scott would make it this far...and well, Constantine is just BAD!

For the girls, I liked Celena's personality, I thought she was sweet, but she deserved the boot, although I give her mad props for singing Lara Fabian in week one, which I love! Janay needs to go....she is AWFUL!! Was never a fan of Aloha, so am fine with her going.

I hope Anthony steps it up, as the local kid is cute...favs remain:

Girls: Carrie, Jessica, Lindsey
Guys: Bo, Mario, Nikko, Anthony (purely b/c he's from here!)

I agree. Plus he's our "local" boy (local being the entire DC metro area, even though his hometown is a good hour's drive from my house), so I have to root for him!

Don't get me wrong-I think he is a pretty, pretty man & if that's all it took, he'd get my vote every time b/c he is hands down the best looking man in the competition...you are right-w/the right studio time, he'd kick butt on a CD filled w/19Evil songs. But to quote Simon, "he's just not good enough."

But hey-we still have Janay, and she is the epitome of not good enough. It makes me want to kick the judges asses for putting her through in the first place. Ooh. Getting mad all over again. Please, America! Stop the madness!!!

Yup, that would be the one and only Janay. Purely because I am from St. Louis, I was a little sad to see Aloha leave, but really the only reason I wanted her to stay in. I didn't really have an opinion either way about Celene. Can't wait to watch next week and see who will make it to the top 12. My favs so far are
Girls: Carrie and Jessica
Guys: Nikko, Bo, and Mario is starting to grow on me

tinydancer 03-04-2005 11:31 AM

Celena is from the DFW area, but I really did not think she performed well. We had one American Idol from this area, so I guess that must be enough!

I thought she preformed way better than Janay... so I'm still confused why Janay is still there. There were a couple things she could have improved on, but oh well! Maybe another time.

My favorite so far is Jessica

chideltjen 03-04-2005 02:20 PM

I haven't been in front of a computer lately but I can't say I was completely surprised by the vote offs. Next week should be interesting because I'm still trying to figure out what kind of "personalities" 19E wants for the final 12.

FYI: Janay and Mikalah are both 17.

Next week is the final cut before the top 12. For the girls... I hope Janay will be gone because the deer in headlights thing isn't working for me. The second girl is questionable. Possibly Amanda. And, while I hope not, Lindsey. But I could see her go. Sadness.

The boys: that's a little tougher. A girl could dream and say ConstantScream, but like mentioned above, the tween vote is strong in this one. Same goes for Anthony. I can understand tweens liking Anthony because he's a teen himself. (Just 19.) But ConstantScream is 28! Why 12 year olds find him cool is beyond me. To me, it's a little freaky. Because I know people his age and close to his age think he's a poseur. But to be realistic... Nikko and Travis... purely based on the lack of pimping. I think they are both adorable, but lack of airtime can affect votes. Or at least TPTB can make it seem that way. I still want to see Travis dance though. I don't know if he'll make it to the top 12.

Now you are right! She was a lot better than Janay. I was really a little surprised that Janay did not go out first.

ZTAngel 03-07-2005 10:59 PM

I want whatever happy pills Paula is on because she seems to think everyone is good. Including those who are really, really bad.

Scott- Really good. He actually moved around.
Bo- Shaky. It wasn't his best performance and it certainly wasn't as good as last week.
Anthony- He was really pitchy. I hope he goes this week but I doubt it since he's got that teen fan base.
Nikko- Really bad on the low notes but amazing at the powerful, high notes.
Travis- Great performer but sucky vocals. Really sucky vocals.
Mario- He sang it well but I wasn't blown away by it.
Constantine- He thinks he's Eddie Vedder by the way he plays with the microphone stand and does that looking-down-while-playing-with-his-hair-trying-to-be-sexy thing. Except, the difference is that Eddie looks good while doing it and he can sing. Constantine sucks. Please go home!
Anwar- He did great! Best performance of the night.

Oh, I heard Fantasia's 'Baby Mama' song on the radio today. Gag.

RBL 03-07-2005 11:00 PM

LOVED NIKKO.. BEST OF THE NIGHT

texas*princess 03-07-2005 11:02 PM

I love Nikkos voice!

Anwar was AWESOME!

I REALLY don't like Constantine!!! He needs to not be on this show anymore!

ZTAngel - I heard that Baby Mama song the other day... my first thought was: "oooooooooook?"

tinydancer 03-07-2005 11:27 PM

Anwar - oh my goodness!!!

I think Travis and Constantine leave us this time.

roqueemae 03-07-2005 11:30 PM

I heard Baby Mama on Regis and Kelly. I had to stop getting ready for work to listen. I couldn't believe it was real. I was hoping it was just a novelty for the Baby Week but evidently not.  :(
