It's very true. I remember as a freshman, the IFC/NPC's on my campus had rather generic sweatshirts. Maybe their letters and chapter designation in whatever color they chose. As soon as My line crossed we rocked the coldest hoodies ever. That following fall, it seemed like every NPC/IFC chapter bought new hoodies with their specific colors and pledge class info in the same spots as our sweatshirts had. They didn't go as far as party hopping or calling (I don't think), but it was just obvious. They wanted to look cool.

I don't take it too seriously though. I'd love to picture my jewels calling on the yard at Cornell, strolling, and just being out in the coldest line jackets ever. Unfortunately, the founders of my fraternity didn't stroll, would wonder what a hoodie was, and didn't have chant-offs with anybody. The founders of most fraternities and sororities (Those founded before 1940 most likely) didn't show off that kind of stuff. Maybe in private, but, there were more important things to worry about at the time. Way more important things.

What do I do? Well, while I was pursuing membership in my beloved sorority, I was working 2 part-time jobs, taking 16 credits in chemistry, doing academic research, was a regional officer for another organization, and a chapter officer for Alpha Chi Sigma (that's the professional chemistry fraternity if you aren't aware). As a part of several organizations I was putting on programs and doing community service.

Now that I am a member, I've done lots of the community as a part of 2 chapters. As a undergrad I've organized a bone marrow donor drive, organized programs on safe sex and time management, and tutored twice a month at a local elementary school. As a grad chapter member I've worked with our debutante ball, attended March of Dimes and AIDS walks, organized programming for our Wee Savers programs and contributed time and money to Operation Big Book Bag. And that doesn't even include everything that I've done with my chapter, and I did it as a full time PhD student.

Now, what have YOU done? Does your org even have a service requirement?

Kappa Kappa Psi will NEVER be competition to my sisterhood...

My mind can't wrap itself around that concept. I don't think I would throw up my Sigma handsign with another organization at anytime. I know there are members with dual (and triple) org memberships, but I just don't recall seeing or hearing of repping both orgs in a picture for one org. Maybe I'm learning again. :confused:

No. :( It's just that I don't necessarily like it when someone starts a thread asking for it not to turn into a war zone over how similar a hand sign might be and that's exactly what it finally becomes. It turns into a pissing match over who's smarter or more greek or whatever. I hoped that by quoting the original post that people would just let it drop. I should have known better though. As long as all of ya'll are enjoying yourselves, have at it. :)

The gentleman on the far right has his left arm in a hook position, which many Greeks would instantly associate with Omega Psi Phi before any other organization. At the same time, his left hand is throwing up the KKPsi handsign.

That appears to be TWO orgs being repped on ONE hand/arm.... :confused: Of course, we've been taught otherwise about that left arm by Soul D-Psi-ple. :rolleyes:

I have to correct myself on an earlier post. I once saw a picture of a D9 sorority member throwing her sorority handsign with one hand and doing a sweetheart (auxilary) handsign with the other. That was the lamest sorority picture...ever.

I don't. I'm not trying to generalize, but at my school the marching band was full of d-bags. They were more arrogant and elitist than the snottiest atheletes or greeks anywhere, and were usually uglier than deformed rats. There might have been some cool people, but for the most part, the ones who said anything, had this sense of entitlement like they ran the school. There were some cool Tau Beta Sigmas around, but they were cool because they didn't shove their status all in my face. I can't speak for other band members at other schools so try not to take too much offense. I know it lacks relevance but everyone needs an impolite post every now and then.
