I read online somewhere that it was a traditional Kabbalah wedding, too.

I'm so mad that yet another one of People's covers goes to Britney. Can't people see she's trying to get attention? Ugh. THe radio stations here are running pools for how long people think the marriage will last. Every morning they do a "Britney update" saying "It's day 5, they're still together." It's really funny.

I'm also wondering when Brit-Brit's gonna pop a little one out. But she'd ruin her fabulous abs  Guess she's just jumping on the Hollywood fad of having a *bump*

They're not so fabulous anymore, anyway.

So, did she or didn't she? And is she or isn't she? Britney Spears most definitely got married last week, People magazine reports in its Oct. 4 issue filled with pictures of the pop star and her fiance, Kevin Federline, in wedding apparel and surrounded by family and friends

What the couple didn't do, according to the Los Angeles County registrar's office, is file a marriage license after the ceremony.

DID YOU GUYS SEE THIS????

US WEEKLY uncovered 'documents' that show Britney Spears' nuptials to
be a 'faux wedding.' PEOPLE mag wasted 7 figures for 'exclusive
photos'... done to throw everyone off the case... Developing...

ZTAngel 09-22-2004 07:50 PM

Looks like Britney got caught trying to pull off a publicity stunt. :D

PhiPsiRuss 09-22-2004 08:25 PM

She really did get married.

And here's the wedding chapel:

She looks like what Tammy Fay Baker might have looked like when she just moved out of her trailer park. So similar.

So in Cali, do you not have to have your marriage license BEFORE you can be married? I just kind of assumed that every state required a marriage license before the ceremony can take place.

I was wondering about that too. In Hawai`i, a marriage license is required or else the ceremony won't be valid. The marriage license is good for one month after its issuance.

I signed a few in Alaska, and it was just before the ceremony, the "official" signed it last after the ceremony took place. If I remember right in California it isn't done by the state, I believe each county handles those records. I'm from San Francisco which is a city and a county all in one, so I wouldn't know.

I am still BARFING at the pink velour suits. The only thing worse would have been UGGS, with a ruffled or pleated mini skirt, an off the shoulder striped top, a poncho with some "signature" handbag, topped off with a trucker hat. I've seen it on campus and it isn't pretty.

GeoffZ 09-22-2004 11:50 PM

Wow, you just described every bad fashion trend of the past year. Pass the barf bag.

Oh yeah, in VA it's handled by the county too, but the entire state requires the marriage license to be obtained before. Then you give it to your officiant, and he/she signs and returns it to the courthouse. But I did hear on the radio this morning that LA county requires it to be obtained within 10 days after the ceremony, so I guess Brit and Kevin are still okay...

I checked out the county website and if you've been previously married within two years you have to provide written proof of when that marriage ended (death/divorce/annulment), or a date if it was more than two years ago. Wouldn't it be amusing if her last marriage didn't officially end and this one wasn't legit? It looks like you can apply for the license but not have it in hand due to processing time.

I wonder if J.Lo will have her license suspended if she tries to get married again, tee-hee.

Also off topic, I read that all the same sex couples that were married in San Francisco can get a refund on their marriage licenses.

Have you seen the People article? Yes, I read it last night on the commute home :o .

Her actual dress was a beautiful silk Monique Luhillier gown - very simple but with a pretty lacey/detailed edge and slight train. $26,000! BUT, she added her "own touch" - lace fingerless gloves and a lace collar! It was like 1980's prom - in a really bad way!!! Then she changed into another horrible lace, mini-dress fiasco for cake cutting, and then again into her sweatsuit for the party. The bridesmaids looked lovely, though! Really!

Oh, and the People article said a female "minister" did the 15 minute non-denominational ceremony.

In Vancouver you have to have a license before you get married, however it isn't officially legal until it is signed and filed with City Hall. So even if you have it before hand doesn't mean you are legally married.

from what i know, you can file your marriage license for up to 10 days after you're married

and with the kabbalah ceremony.....i think the original wedding in October was supposed to be a kabbalah ceremony but since they decided to get married a lot sooner, it was just non-denominational

and i saw the People magazine. i thought she looked pretty, although i agree with whoever talked about those lace things looking like the 80s....but that's Britney. Some of the photos you can tell were taken specifically for the papparazi, whether they were given to them or they took them themselves. like the one where Kevin is taking the thing (it's late, i cant remember the name of it) off her leg and she has her hands on his head......it looked so staged.

and the "trashy" dress some of you guys were talking about earlier......that was the dress she wore to the reception....in the People magazine she said that she changed because she was hot. i think Britney looked pretty but Kevin could have shaved.

Xylochick216 09-26-2004 09:56 AM

You'd think Britney could have afforded to wash and brush her hair before the ceremony. I just wanted to rub some shampoo on her head. Her hair looked gross.

And as for the short dress she changed into? Maybe it's something she could wear on tour or in a video, but it was a bit too short for my liking. I don't think I own anything that short, and I sure as hell wouldn't wear it to my wedding.

Why Britney’s Wedding Rang All The Right Bells

By Vanessa Feltz

"At Kate Winslet’s first wedding, to third assistant cameraman Jim Threapleton, the revellers convened for pie and mash at the local hostelry, and Kate was warmly congratulated by the world’s press for her down-to-earth, no-nonsense style.

Poor old Britney Spears attempts a similarly low-key celebration of what we assume was her union with dancer Kevin Federline and is castigated for choosing trailer trash over fairytale.

Let’s face it, the choices of any 22-year-old worth $100 million – whose preparation for life’s existential questions has been a childhood career as a hoofer and warbler for Disney’s Mousketeers – are bound to collapse under scrutiny.

Here, however, is the case for the Dissent.

Perhaps it wasn’t the epitome of chic to issue guests with velour tracksuits emblazoned with the word “Pimps” for the lads and “Maids” for the lasses. On the other hand, they’re a young couple and it might have been an in-joke, or maybe just a sensitive way of making sure the less affluent guests felt as comfortable as the wealthy – rich and poor dressed alike.

The bride’s choice of cuisine – chicken wings and cheeseburgers – wouldn’t pass muster in Gordon Ramsey’s kitchen. They are, however, the staple fare of Disney World, where the bride spent her formative years.

If Britney professed to adore black linguine in a cuttlefish jus, we’d label her a pretentious liar. Why should she not serve her guests food she knows they’ll be familiar with?

British aristocrats have no problem shelling out fortunes at the Ivy [restaurant] for such nursery food as shepherd’s pie. What’s wrong with Britney recalling the choices of a generation by munching on a Proustian nugget?

A pay bar was in operation at the reception. This could be considered inhospitable. Alternatively, it could be more charitably interpreted as a heroic attempt by Britney not to show off and intimidate her new groom’s family and friends. If everyone’s paying, everyone’s equal and she isn’t asphyxiating the proceedings with her dollars like some overpowering benefactress.

What looks like meanness could actually be an imaginative attempt to be inclusive.

Britney, by not bestowing her money upon her guests, empowers them and releases herself from the unpleasant role of cash cow.

Only someone who has endured being primped and prodded, curled and coiffed and dressed up like a human Barbie on the scale Britney has could imagine the enormous allure of NOT dressing up to the nines for your wedding.

Perpetually on display, forever photographed, criticized for putting a single trainer-shod foot out of place, Britney badly needs to relax.

A husband who demanded sartorial perfection would make her uneasy. She’d feel like a trophy to be worn as an adornment to his ego and bank balance.

Kevin Federline obviously helps create an atmosphere in which she can simply behave naturally. She doesn’t naturally behave like a Swiss finishing school graduate or a brain surgeon. So what?

If you contrast this wedding with the ill-fated nuptials of Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd or even Liza Minnelli and David Gest, the difference is blindingly clear. The latter two were pantomime weddings, expressly for public consumption, ostentatious, enormous and ultimately soulless.

Britney’s effervescent smile and understated choices are absolutely appropriate for a 22-year-old. Her sister was her bridesmaid. His brother was his best man. Both ma-in-laws grinned broadly.

There’s every possible indication that these two might actually manage the decreasingly possible and live happily ever after."

Having a cash bar is TACKY! Especially if you have any money at all. Don't have alcohol at all if you can't afford it. EVERY etiquette and bridal magazine will tell you that. Why not charge a cover at the door why you're at it. Jeez....

I don't take issue with the food, at least people left full. Nothing worse than going to a wedding and all you get are some peanuts, mints, icky punch and too sweet cake. The pimps and maids sweatsuits though-TACKY!! All she had to do to "equal" everyone out was to put "casual attire" or "semi formal" or whatever on the invites.

Oh well, no one said money equaled class.....

aphibeach 09-27-2004 11:57 PM

i read in Us Weekly that Britney's mother was being really stubborn about money and was trying to find "deals" so they wouldn't have to cough up the cash for the wedding.....which i find ridiculous because the girl is worth over $100 million

many celebrities do that. they'll allow one magazine to come in to get the exclusive report so that way they'll pay enough for the story that it covers a lot of the wedding. or if they allow the wedding shows/magazines to follow them around and film it, then the magazine/show will pay for the majority of it. a lot of Jessica Simpson's wedding was paid for by InStyle and that's why she was all over their wedding special on tv and in the magazine. these people are just smart enough not to come right out and tell everyone that.

SSS1365 09-28-2004 02:10 PM

I heard a rumor this morning that Britney is 2 months pregnant. Of course, it was from a British tabloid, so who knows if it's even true  But... it wouldn't surprise me!
