Not that I would mind. I started reading the OotP spoiler thread before I read the book. I couldn't resist... and yeah everything got spoiled... Oh well. The book is still better. :D

Those of you with your emails in the HBP database on Amazon.com: any of you get an email telling you that Amazon won't be getting a shipment from the supplier any time soon? I am assuming this is a generic response to someone asking for something out of stock, because obviously the book won't be shipped by their supplier. It hasn't even been published! I am just curious if they will keep your email in their database after that. I just found it funny that it was sent, because I was like, well, DUH! Of course it wouldn't be shipped soon.

While I wasn't 100% correct, I knew it didn't mean anything.
I thought it was intentional, but it wasn't. I just couldn't see there was any possible way he was related to Harry. At least not with the information she had previously given us.

For those of you that haven't been to JKRowling's site here is the big news- THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANVE OF MARK EVENS!!!

Now, I want to SHOUT from the mountian (or the bridge, not many mountians by me) that "I TOLD YOU SO!!!". I'll admit it. I visit some of those other chat sites that are strickly Harry Potter, and I post. I had the minority opinion that Mark Evans ment nothing. Let me tell you, ya think GC is bad sometimes? Try getting flamed by 13 year olds. Ouch. And they can put some graphic-y type things into their posts. I had one post that was some dashes and zeros in the shape of a middle finger at me.

I really really really wanted to know if Siruis is really dead. I actually thought that was the only logicat FAQ posted there. I thought JK's side note of "if any" in the question "What, if any, is the significance of Mark Evans?" Would have tipped everyone off. Even JK announced she was praying that another questions was going to win. But alas, we now know that Mark Evans was a big fat red herring.

Anyhoo, I didn't even remember who Mark Evans was. I guess I was just hoping he was something so we could get a spoiler. But I guess not. A girl can hope. :) But I guess the Rule of 2 really applies here. He was never mentioned before then and wasn't mentioned after.

LOL. I think one time on another site i was sorted into slytherin... i didn't like the result so i changed some answers to questions and became a gryffindor... so yeah I pulled a Harry Potter.

But i went and won a gryffindor scarf on ebay today... yeah yeah... i am a traitor to my house... but I like red and yellow better! ;)

I kept being sorted into Slytherin on the WB Harry Potter Website, I kept trying to change my answers but they still kept putting me into Slytherin. I finally said screw you, I don't want to go to Hogwarts :D

But the first time I got sorted on that website the placed me in Gryffindor. I answered the questons the same way all the other times and ended up in Slytherin.

There are a lot of things on there. You just have to do a general search for a harry potter scarf... don't narrow it down to only "harry potter clothing" because people don't make their categories correct.

Another online store to try is Alivan's. They have a banner and link on Mugglenet. Scarves are about $16 plus shipping (which is like $7). Not bad compared to WB stores, which charge about $35!

Ok, so I found this random piece of paper when I was cleaning out my boxes from college. I have no idea why I wrote it, or where I got the notion from.

But for some reason, I wrote "Herminonie anamagus = room of requirement".

Since I don't have my copy of OotP with me :( can anyone help me out? Does Herminonie talk about some animal or something in the room? I really feel that I found this on a website or something. I know i didn't think of it myself.

Why we are on the topic- anyone care to guess if any of our Hogwarts students are going to be anamagi?

What animal would you want to be if you could be an anamagus? I would want to say dophin (b/c even before tri delt, they were my favorite animal) but that doesn't seem practical. I think I'd go with an osprey or a bald eagle instead. Some kind of majestic and powerful bird.

Well I am not sure about an anamagus, but Harry let the DA practice patronuses and Hermione's was a sea otter. Maybe you misread someone's web posting or the poster had it confused.

Anamagus? Nah... I'd much rather be like Tonks and change my appearance. (I forget how to spell the term... starts with an M. Know what I mean?)

I think Tonks is metamorphagi (something like. I'd have to whip out my book to check)


Does any one remember if JKR said it was Snape's Boggart or Patronus shoe couldn't reveal the shape of otherwise it would give way too much?

I don't remember that being mentioned in the books... but did she say that in an interview? I could see her not revealing his boggart.

I think Snape's patronus could be a snake.

I was thinking that part of the reason that Snape hates Harry so much is that Snape owed James a life debt (after he saved him from Lupin) and never got a chance to pay him back before James and Lily were killed and now he owes that life debt to Harry.

I remember reading somewhere that someone thinks there was someone else in Godric's Hallow the night that Voldey came to kill the Potters...and that person was Snape.

But I don't think Snape was there to try and kill Harry/Potters. I think he was there to try to save Harry/Potters.

If you look carefully at what Harry "remembers" during the lessons on the Patronus charm (in PoA)before his mother died, the word choice sounds alot like Snape. For example, the voice (now mind you, we're never told its Voldemort; we all just assume, which makes an ass of you and me) says "Stand aside. Stand aside, girl!" After that Harry hears his father say "Its him." I know somewhere else in one of the books, the voice/voldemort says "give him to me silly girl".

Who else do we know that says, "silly girl" quite often? Snape when he is referring to Herminonie.

Deep down, I believe Snape is a good guy. I also think he is going to die, because I think he is the one Voldemort is talking about in GoF (the one who has left his side forever, he will be killed). Tying in with Lady Pi Phi's theory, Godiric's Hollow might have been the turning point of Snape's Death Eater days. He found out Voldey was going to try and kill the Potters. Instead, he tries to go and save Harry, Lilly/James don't trust Snape (don't blame them, I wouldn't; because at that point he is a known Death Eater), Snape bounces before Voldy shows up, the rest we know.

I think THAT is why Dumbledore trusts Snape so much. He tried to save Harry before.

Right now, this is very sketchy. Later tonight, I'll try and clarify somethings by actually going through the books and trying to remember where I read that idea. I only have an hour for lunch, cleary not nearly enough time to put out a proper theory on HP. Just wanted to throw that out there for now.

Co-sign. Especially since Voldy said that the one that left would be killed. Maybe there is more to that. Perhaps Voldy not only wants to kill Snape because he left the death eaters but also because he tried to get in the way of the Potter murder.

And if Snape did try to help/warn the Potters beforehand, of course they probably wouldn't take him seriously. After all, he IS/WAS a D.E.

I finished up OotP again the other night. I re-read the prophecy and whatnot again. Yeah my whole original thought on Nelville being the chosen one: blew it out of the water. Harry's the marked man.

And some interesting fan-fic info: mugglenet had a contest to write the last couple paragraphs of the 7th book. There were 3 winners. One almost brought me to tears. Not because it was generally written that well, but it's just that I could totally see it happening. But then it could get too LoTR-like and I don't if JKR will do that. The fics are under the "competitions" link.

Also, anyone else think that Dumbledore will be killed off? I can figure Snape as a possibility. But JKR says there will be lots of death in the last books and one will be particularly hard to write. People have guessed Harry, but I don't think she would kill off the main character. So the next "best thing" would be Dumbledore. Just my thoughts. :)

I'll be very surprised if he doesn't get killed. He's talked to Harry too much about death just being another adventure, or something to that effect.

I think Dumbledore's death will be on his terms, though -- that is, he will allow Voldemort to kill him because he will see that in the grand scheme of things it will lead to Voldemort's defeat. Very Ob-Wan of Dumbledore.

Yeah, I think Dumbledore could possibly be killed off in the final book I was also thinking it could be Ron.

Others may already have seen this info, but I thought it was interesting and thought provoking. I ran across a couple of interviews with JKL about religion (she's a member of the Church of Scotland, aka a Presbyterian). This first snipet is from a CBC Interview:

E [Interviewer]: When you talk about dealing with death and loss in the books, does this come out of your own - you've had loss with the loss of your mother - did it come out of a personal spirituality? I mean, are you are religious person? Does your spirituality come from a certain place?

JK: I do believe in God. That seems to offend the South Carolinians [apparently here, she is talking about a specific protest group] more than almost anything else. I think they would find it…well that is my limited experience, that they have more of a problem with me believing in God than they would have if I was an unrepentant atheist.

E: You do believe in God.

JK: Yeah. Yeah.

E: In magic and…

JK: Magic in the sense in which it happens in my books, no, I don't believe. I don't believe in that. No. No. This is so frustrating. Again, there is so much I would like to say, and come back when I've written book seven. But then maybe you won't need to even say it 'cause you'll have found it out anyway. You'll have read it.

E: But in your own life, I mean, are you a churchgoer?

JK: (Nods) Mmm hmm. Well I go more than to weddings and christenings. Yes, I do.

E: And in your own life, would the church and that kind of spirituality help you deal with the loss of your mum?

JK: No, actually it didn't at the time. No. (Shakes her head)

E: So you've come back to it.

JK: Yeah, I would say so. I have some problems with conventional organized religion. Some problems. (Long pause) But…but, yes, it's a place I would go to in a time of trouble. It probably is a place I would go to in a time of trouble. I wouldn't expect it to provide all the answers, 'cause I would expect to find some of those within me.

E: Right, but the institutional side of it, you know, the rules…

JK: I have certain problems with some aspects of that. Yes I do.

Second is an interview I have found a number of places (do a Google and you'll find it, but I did not find the original in the Vancouver Sun):

"Every time I've been asked if I believe in God, I've said yes, because I do; but no one ever really has gone any more deeply into it than that, and I have to say that does suit me -- because if I talk too freely about that, I think the intelligent reader, whether 10 or 60, will be able to guess what's coming in the books."

There are, of course, plenty of books and sites that will talk about how various aspects of HP can be interpreted from a traditional Christian symbolism perspective, but I these snippets shed an interesting perspective on what might happen in 6 and 7.

I voted for the Dumbledore letter. The first one with Percy, I'm guessing that he's not involved in anything like that. I hope the answer to whatever wins is better than the Mark Evans answer. That was a total let down. :)

I did as well. It seems like the most logical question to ask after book 5. Perhaps she may give us some answers to Petunia. Or she may not give us anything because it would spoil book 6. I dunno. But that poll answer was in the lead.
