(well I hope...I have a suspicion that somewhere in the far distant future I may want to do a 2nd masters...but that's far far away) |

Another update:
The list of school's I'm applying to for my MA- Literature: Kent State Akron University of Kentucky Murray State (KY) Cleveland State I realized I needed to narrow it down to a more manageable # of schools, since I want to do campus visits and also since application fees can add up. Not to mention I can only send my GRE scores to so many schools. So this is my set list of schools. Cleveland and Murray are my top 2 just because they have alot to offer in assistantships and do not require the GRE for applicants with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. |
5 is a good amount to apply to (it's what I did).
Good luck! And don't worry if you have to take the GRE more than once- I took it twice! |
Bumping, cause I too, am now in the game.
I'm studying for the GRE.....looking to get a masters in Higher Education/Student Affairs. Schools I'm looking at: University of South Carolina University of Alabama Florida State University Georgia Southern University University of Georgia |
I had to drop out of grad school after only 1 week b/c the load of classwork, work, new house, & wedding stuff proved to be too much. Add on some drama & personal issues & while I made a good decision, it's one that still haunts me. I now have to go back & reapply to begin again next fall & get that Masters in Literature. I just really want to focus on school & do well rather than be one of those people that just show up & do a half-assed job in the hopes of passing. That kind of crap does not cut it in grad school.
This time, I'll be applying to schools closer to my new home so UC Riverside may *crosses fingers* be my new school. Being a realist, I'll also apply to other schools close to home in the hopes that they'll accept me. They did once before so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get in again but you just never know. |

The moral of the story is: YOU CAN DO IT! |
Just wondering
I am thinking about going to graduate school in the biology field. The only problem is that i am not sure what i want to do my research in. There are many things that interest me and I am not sure if an interest is enough to commit to for so long of time.
I was just wondering if anyone could share with me how they choose what their research was and maybe some advise about how they narrowed down their school choices. For me, money and location isnt a factor as i (finally) got my college fund from my parents and if i had to, i can pay for things myself. I am just saying this cause so far most advise i have gotten is people making choices on school and research based on program closest to their location and/or could afford cost of school, any finally these two factors are not a hinderance to me. thanks for the advise, Taylor |
Grad School Update:
I've FURTHER narrowed my list to: *Murray State *Ohio State *Cleveland State *Youngstown State I've sent in apps to Murray, Cleveland, and Youngstown already since they don't require GRE scores. They're waiting on transcripts. Ohio State is waiting on trascripts and me to schedule their foreign language proficiency exam. |
studying for the June LSAT!
|
I applied & am waiting to hear from the University of La Verne if I got accepted into their Masters program. *sigh* The classes start in June & end in March. It's intense but I work better under pressure b/c I'm a huge procrastinator if I'm not motivated & stressed. ;)

I'm headed to law school in the fall - I'm also very excited.
|
I'll be heading to law school in the fall as well.

I finished my first year of grad school today! One down, one to go! :D
|
I had my last grad class on Tuesday and can't wait to graduate. I have three weeks to graduation as of Sunday!:D

Congrats Soror!
I am counting down to my graduation on Sunday from Grad School! I passed econ!!!!! |
I was recently accepted into the Educational Theatre/English program at NYU for Graduate School! I start in September.
|
I got my Masters degree last year. They offer a post-Masters certificate at my school for my field, but I am very busy with my full-time job right now.
And this Tuesday was my final German class. I took German at the community college, since they offered the class at night. |

For engineering, the analytical and math sections were of most importance to me. GA Tech (the school I did not go to) wanted a combined 1300 on those two sections alone. It is just like the SAT except there's an analytical section. The analytical section is what I'd concentrate the most one learning and mastering. After I completed grad school, I found out that I didn't even need to take the GRE! Go figure.... But, it's ok.:) |
I took the GRE in 1997.
I got a 760 in Math, a 710 in Analytical, and a 610 in English. |

I'm at the other end of that tunnel right now, and I wish the trip could be faster! |

Congrats Soror @ Gina!! I assume your graduation has already passed or is within the next week or so. About the GRE: I took it in 1999 and didn't do much prep for it. I took the computer-based test which was good because I could see my score as soon as I finished. I see someone says they changed the format in 2002 but I don't know anyone who has taken it within the past 5 or so years. It would be interesting to see what they've done to it. |
I got into Grad School without taking the GRE - yaaaaay!

How did you get into grad school without taking the GRE?
I was afraid I would have to retake it for library school because I had taken it exactly 5 years before I applied. However, I called they school and they said I was fine. If I go for the PhD, I may have to retake it indeed. |
There are a handful of programs that do not look at GRE scores - luckily, Steinhardt School of Education at NYU was one of those programs!
One of my good friends also just got into Grad School at Colorado College for Art Education without taking the GREs... so the programs are few and far between, but they're out there! |
Many programs are no longer requiring the GRE. It depends upon the school and the field of study.
Especially at the Ph.D. level, a lot of programs are much more interested in your writing and experience. LM |
I didn't take the GRE either - UK programmes don't require it. :D It was all about the quality of my first degree (when I applied for the MLitt) and writing samples.
On an unrelated note, I am just wrapping up the first year of my PhD (oh how time flies!). I passed my first year review (had to submit 10,000 words, though mine was about 12,000 plus appendices) and my first year viva. I just can't believe it's gone so quickly. This was also my first year of teaching, and I just submitted final marks yesterday, woohoo! No more papers or exams to mark until October. Yay! |
I just finished my first year, woo hoo! :)
|
i'm finishing up my thesis this summer and starting a ph.d. program this fall! and maybe someday (far far away) i'll get a real job...

Me, too.
I wish there was more time on the LG section, but I've resigned myself. And I know I have to take this test in June or I may lose my mind!!!! |
The Princeton Review has been a godsend for me! Granted it still may not help get me into a school but it has at least helped me improve in some areas of this test!!!! Best of luck to you!!!! After June 12th we can relax a little bit... or as much as one can while they wait for their scores! :)
|
I don't know. I think I am one of those people who can't take standardized tests (but I completely support the idea behind the standardized tests!)
I have been studying about 20 hours a week for the last 5 months. I have gone through Kaplan's recent LSAT book, Nova's Master the LSAT, the Powerscore LGB and LRB, a $1250 Testmaster's course, done as much homework as humanly possible and have taken about 20 timed practice tests. My score has gone up almost 10 points, but I'm still so far from where I'd hoped to be and I'm just accepting that I'm not meant for a T14 or possibly even a Top 100. But I want to be an attorney, not a law student, so regardless, I'm going to stay postitive, do the best I can on test day and go to the best school I can get into where I feel I'm the best fit. It just won't be one of the uber-national schools on the USWRN ranking. Good luck to everyone taking the June test!!! |
I'm not a great test taker either... so I also had to accept that I will more than likely not be going somewhere like Georgetown or Harvard :) But it's ok, I'll end up where I'm supposed to be...just like you will! Good luck girl! And good luck to all the GC'ers who are testing in June!

I started posting in this thread about a year ago when I was looking at Masters of Literature programs. Wow how my plans have changed since then!
After alot of thinking (and praying), I've changed my direction. I realized that I would prefer a degree that is more easily applied to a specific career path. As of right now, I've requested application materials for 2 programs that I've decided that I'm defintely interested in: *Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling (requires application, 2 recommendations, interview, and a minimum 2.75 GPA) *Masters in Public Administration (requires application, 2 recommendations, GRE scores, and a minimum 3.0 GPA) And although I was DEAD SET against staying at my undergrad for grad school, these 2 programs at KSU are top 10 in the state of Ohio. So staying at Kent is a definite possibility. I'm still planning on looking at maybe 2 other schools! Wish me luck! |
I plan to go to law school next year and right now studying for the LSAT. It's not as horrifying as I once it would be. It's really a matter of disciplining yourself and taking practice tests over and over. I have about 18 weeks before I take the sept/oct test.
|
My graduate school program requires us to have an internship at some time... Well I just found out that I have one for my first summer... Yes, this summer... I got into the NASA Planetary Science Summer School at JPL in Pasadena, California and my committee already agreed to count that as my internship... I am very very excited...
|
I can't believe I made it through my first semester in grad school. :)
