Erving's Wife Denies Releasing Sex Tape
54 minutes ago ORLANDO, Fla. - A tape showing NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving having sex with a woman in a hotel room "didn't come out of our camp," Andrea Black, lawyer for Erving's wife, Turquoise, said Wednesday. The tape was delivered to the New York Post while Erving divorces Turquoise, his wife of 31 years. It shows Erving having sex with a young woman in a hotel room while a radio plays, the newspaper said. The divorce case is going on in Florida. Erving's spokesman, Dan Klores, said Monday the tape was made 15 years ago, while Erving and his wife were separated. "The decision by his wife's advisers to release it during their divorce negotiations is disappointing, especially since Mrs. Erving has had it in her possession for all these years," said Klores. "I can assure you it didn't come out of our camp," Black said Wednesday. But she added that in a hotly disputed divorce, it isn't uncommon for friends and family surrounding the couple to get involved in various ways — and that might be why the tape was sent to the newspaper. "Frankly, it doesn't help anyone," said Black, noting that Florida has no-fault divorce laws. "To me, all it does is create a furor over something in which the emotions are going to be high again." "I'm not stressed about it," Erving said before the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association's 100th annual banquet, where he was an honored guest Monday night. "The media is always going to be a part of my life as long as I'm breathing and even after I'm gone." Maybe it was his babymomma, the news reporter. |
Speaking of R. Kelly
Stella Foster reported in her column yesterday, that R. was in court here on Monday asking a judge for permission to attend the Grammys. The judge said yes with the following restriction: No contact at all with Michael Jackson! Is that really necessary? Do you rhink they may try to do something stupid together?

James Brown charged with domestic violence The Associated Press AP Soul singer James Brown in a booking photo taken at the Aiken County Sheriff's Office Wednesday. AIKEN, S.C. -- Soul singer James Brown was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly pushed his wife to the floor during an argument, authorities said. Brown, 70, was charged with criminal domestic violence and was to remain jailed until a bond hearing Thursday morning, Aiken County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Michael Frank said. Investigators say Brown shoved his wife during an argument in a bedroom at the couple's home in Beech Island, 70 miles southwest of Columbia. Tomi Rae Brown, 33, had scratches and bruises to her right arm and hip and was taken to a hospital, Frank said. James Brown's publicist Simone Smalls declined to comment Wednesday. Brown is known as the Godfather of Soul for a multitude of hits, including "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Sex Machine" and "Living in America." Last month he was honored at the Kennedy Center as "one of the most influential musicians of the past 50 years." Brown served a 2 1/2-year prison term after a 1988 arrest on drug and assault charges and was convicted of a drug-related offense in 1998. He was granted a state pardon in May. R Kelly Can't Fly
A judge in Chicago this week granted Kelly permission to attend the 46th Annual Grammy Awards February 8 in Los Angeles--under the stipulation that he not confab with Jackson.
R&B crooner Kelly, 37, is under indictment for child pornography; popster Jackson, 45, is facing child-molestation charges. The judge's order in the Kelly case baffled both the defense and prosecution, which didn't request the stay-away-from-Michael move. "We had no plan to see [Jackson] anyway," Kelly defense attorney Ed Genson said Wednesday. It's doubtful that Kelly would even run into Jackson at the Grammys (news - web sites). While Kelly is a double nominee, Jackson is neither an award contender, nor a scheduled performer. Grammy organizers on Wednesday said they didn't know if Jackson, who once needed both arms to haul away all his trophies, planned to attend as a spectator. Last year, Kelly and Jackson collaborated on the song "One More Chance." Kelly penned it; Jackson sang it; record buyers and radio stations largely ignored it. The Chicago-based Kelly was to leave for Los Angeles on Wednesday, traveling by bus. (Strange, but true: The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer doesn't like airplanes, his attorney said.) Per the judge's order, he's due back in the Windy City on February 18. Kelly is under indictment in Illinois for an allegedly caught-on-tape sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl. He's also in hot water in Florida, accused of having a stash of kiddie-porn pics at his home there. Jackson is accused of molesting a child at his Neverland Ranch. Kelly's Grammy road trip is the latest excursion to be okayed by Judge Vincent Gaughan. Last year, Gaughan twice allowed Kelly to embark on mini-tours to support his latest album, Chocolate Factory. |

Robin Simone Givens strikes pedestrian
[ The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: 1/29/04 ]
Robin Givens' car injures pedestrian in Miami The Associated Press MIAMI -- Actress Robin Givens struck and critically injured an 89-year-old pedestrian who was in a crosswalk, police said Thursday. Givens, a star of the 1980s TV comedy "Head of the Class" and the ex-wife of boxer Mike Tyson, struck Maria Antonia Alcover with her sports utility vehicle on Wednesday as the elderly woman was crossing a busy intersection during rush hour, police spokesman Delrish Moss said. Police have ruled it an accident. Witnesses said Alcovar had gotten more than halfway across the street when the northbound/southbound light turned green and Givens' 2000 Mercedes SUV struck her. Police said Givens' car had been stopped at the traffic light before the accident. After being hit, Alcover fell backward and her right foot was nearly severed, police said. Givens drove for about 10 feet before witnesses flagged her down. The actress stopped her vehicle, walked back to the victim and stayed with her while police and fire rescue reached the scene. "She was very cooperative with police last night. She was crying, extremely shaken up and very concerned about the well-being of the victim," Moss said. Givens, 39, of New York, was issued a traffic summons for failing to use due care when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk. Police said she was traveling with two boys, ages 4 and 10. "We're looking at it as a pure accident and we don't expect any additional criminal charges whatsoever," Moss said. Alcover was listed in "extremely critical but stable condition" at Jackson-Memorial Hospital in Miami, Moss said. Givens also starred in "Boomerang" with comedian Eddie Murphy in 1992. She was married for a year to Tyson; the marriage ended in divorce in 1989. Givens' Los Angeles-based manager, Alan Iezman, did not immediately return a phone message. |

The 56-foot dead whale had been on a truck headed for an autopsy at a university earlier this week, when gases from internal decay caused its entrails to explode in the southern city of Tainan. The whale had died after it was beached on the southwestern coast of the island. |

ETA: Article Jamie Foxx Gets Probation for Fight 18 minutes ago NEW ORLEANS - Comedian Jamie Foxx (news) has been placed on two years probation and fined $1,500 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge stemming from an altercation with security guards at a casino. Foxx entered the plea Wednesday to disturbing the peace, District Attorney Eddie Jordan announced Friday. Foxx was given a six-month suspended jail sentence in addition to the probation and fine. Shocking, New Jacko Accusations Made
Vanity Fair magazine reporter Maureen Orth has written an explosive piece for the March issue in which she reveals new and shocking accusations against Michael Jackson: He allegedly seduced boys by giving them Coca-Cola cans filled with white wine. The pop star purportedly told the boys the wine was called "Jesus juice," and allegedly named red wine "Jesus blood." Jackson has already been charged with seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent. He is free on $3 million bail pending trial.
Orth's named sources for the allegations include attorneys and relatives of the accusers, as well as former Jackson employees. One of those sources, Jackson's former financial advisor, Myung-Ho Lee, reveals to Vanity Fair that Jackson suffered from an addiction to Demerol and morphine and has spent years in and out of rehab. He also allegedly secretly underwent detox in Seoul, Korea. |
Dwarf Dating on Fox
Fox's planned dwarf-dating show sparks controversy
But advocacy group leader says it could be positive Does size really matter when it comes to true love? Glen is the 4' 5" bachelor starring in "The Littlest Groom." Sidebar: Why do they have to call this show "the Littlest Groom" CTFU! That sounds like a board game for pre-schoolers ) Updated: 2:25 p.m. ET Jan. 30, 2004LOS ANGELES - Critics may roll their eyes at Fox television’s upcoming dwarf-dating contest “The Littlest Groom,” but the head of the advocacy group Little People of America says the show could end up giving his members a boost. While some audiences may snicker at the spectacle of a dozen dwarf women competing with average-sized females for the affections of a 4-foot-5-inch bachelor, LPA president Matt Roloff said the Fox show may benefit people of short stature by depicting them as regular folks “just being themselves.” In other words, a person’s size doesn’t matter. ‘The fact that Fox is doing this reality show is outrageous,’ Roloff quoted one e-mail he received from the parent of a dwarf child. ‘It is one more avenue to make fun of their stature.’ “Yes, the radio jocks will have a field day,” Roloff told Reuters in a telephone interview. “(But) hiding us behind closed doors or in funny costumes will never give us the exposure needed to desensitize society to us.” Fox said this week that it would air the show, essentially a dwarf version of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” as a two-part special next month on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23. The announcement sparked a flurry of angry letters to the LPA from little people and their parents and a debate within the Portland, Oregon-based organization over its response to the show, Roloff said. “The fact that Fox is doing this reality show is outrageous,” Roloff quoted one e-mail he received from the parent of a dwarf child. “It is one more avenue to make fun of their stature.” Roloff credited the producers of the show for consulting with his group in an apparent effort to develop and promote the show in a sensitive manner. While the LPA neither supports nor endorses the program, Roloff said he would withhold judgment until he sees it. “My sense is that they probably didn’t do anything too derogatory.” But the retired software design and sales executive said he remains troubled about the idea of throwing averaged-sized women into the mix, an element of the show he called ”ill-advised” and potentially hurtful to his members. “Personally, I think that the (bachelor) guy might have the same tastes I have and prefer a little woman and reject the average-sized women,” he said. “But at the same time, if it did go the other way around, it might be problematic, and make America think there’s something wrong with little people.” He said there are roughly 100,000 people in the United States who have been born with dwarfism, a genetic condition that usually results in an adult height of 4-foot-10 or less and disproportionately short arms and legs. “Littlest Groom” Executive Producer Bill Paolantonio defended the program as a “celebration of diversity.” “We have gone to great lengths to make sure everybody on this program is treated with dignity and respect,” he said. ”Human emotion is human emotion, no matter what the package is, and this program ultimately is about that.” He said all the dwarf contestants on the program had dated a mix of little and average-sized people, and that one little woman on the show had never dated a little person.
