APO - second semester of freshman year (Spring '92)
KAP - post collegiate (Winter '07)

ladygreek 05-28-2007 02:12 PM

This thread is interesting. Notice the number of NPHCers who pledged junior year and the NPCers and IFCers who pledged freshman year.

Part of the reason is that for most NPHC orgs you must be at least a sophomore to pledge.

BethPowell 05-28-2007 02:51 PM

I pledged fall 1996 - First Quarter of my Freshman year! :D

Tom Earp 05-28-2007 03:37 PM

Never Pledged!:)

Founded a local and affiliated with LXA during the school year and was Initiated in 1966. So local was Founded in 1965! Graduated in 1967.

I feel I missed a lot but did not in the same vein for what I did!:D

SapphireSphinx9 05-28-2007 05:14 PM

I became a Founding New Member in Fall '00, my 1st semester of Freshman year... And became a Sister in Spring '01, 2nd semester of Freshman year. (I was one of a handful of the youngest Founders - everyone else were mostly Juniors, Seniors or in the Graduate program)

Scandia 05-28-2007 05:18 PM

I pledge in the Spring of 1996. I was in my second semester of my freshman year of college.

Thetagirl218 05-28-2007 05:28 PM

My RUSH experience was a little different than most since I was a Founding Sister of my Chapter. I pledged and was initiatied in the Spring of 2007 when I was a 1st semester Senior.

That's often based on credit hours. So you can be a 1st year in "sophomore standing." But most people reach sophomore standing in their 2nd year.

I pledged Junior year.

trideltrockstar 05-28-2007 08:15 PM

I pledged my sophomore fall (Fall 2005)...our school has deferred recruitment so only sophmores can rush.

So I went through Rush again, this time as a Junior during Spring 2000. I'm glad I went through as a Junior because I knew what I wanted in a sorority experience and in a sister. :)

wow, now i know what OTW is...

actually i think most NPHC orgs you have to have a minimum of 12 credits, therefore meaning second semester freshman...but it must be that alot of schools dont allow freshmen to got thru Intake.

Some require 12 credits.

But most require sophomore status which is generally 24 credits. That's why people tend to be sophomores (and up).

AOII Angel 05-28-2007 11:43 PM

If it's done simply by credits, that's weird. I had more than 12 credit hours prior to starting college after passing AP exams and CLEP exams. Would I then be eligible for NPHC membership as a first semester freshman? Hypothetically, of course!

12dn94dst 05-28-2007 11:51 PM

depending on the org and if you met their other requirements, yes.

Yep, 24 semester hours, 36 quarter hours. So yes it has been done "freshman" year when someone entered college during the summer, and/or had high school AP credits rransferred and received the number of hours as a second semester "freshman". More likely on a semester system than a quarter system, because of timing. ;)

As 12dn said depending on the org. But for Delta no, you would have needed 24 semester credits PLUS the GPA requirement. And to get a GPA you would have needed to attend at least one semester of college to establish one on the official transcript. So even with the credits, you would not have been remotely eligible until second semester freshman year.

That makes sense!
