I waited for this?

The Grammy's just aired for the first time in Germany last night and I wasn't all that impressed.

I thought Mariah's performance was awful, at least during the first song. I also need someone to explain why they didn't do more televised presentations? Although I'm not a fan of Kelly Clarkson, her performance was really good! Loved Christina but had to pump the brakes on Ciara- HC I didn't even recognize her? My sister and I were trying to figure out who the hoochie was in that little dress that was screamin' " 5 dollar sucky, sucky"!

Overall, I could've done without this years Grammy Awards :(

nikki1920 02-10-2006 09:57 AM

I agree. The show was BLAH. Ciara REALLY can not sing. I still love Steven Tyler's voice. I was feeling Christina's song, but it seemed rushed. I was not impressed with this show at all.

And why I was thinking the same thing about Sly! Hey, at least he showed up!
Yeah, looking like Golddust from WWF (b4 it was WWE) with his mohawk and all.

With Ciara's outfit, I thought I was back in the 80s with the short, tight dress and the big hair. She needed to give the horse its tail back.:p
I didn't recognize Ciara either until I looked closely at her nose and eyes. Then I was surprised at the fact she was wearing a dress, and especially a mini!!!!!!!!! She had mentioned in Vibe (the one with her and Bow Wizzle on the cover) that she never wore dresses b/c she didn't like the way her legs looked in dresses.

And that wasn't a horse's tail she had, it was the fur from a black Lab Retriever!!!!!!!! :D :p

jitterbug13 02-10-2006 01:57 PM

lilsunshine, BTW, Common will be at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach on the 18th (next Saturday).;)

The step that both the guys and girls did at the end were really good. I thought to myself that they couldn't possible be just some hired folks that did the steps that well. A soror of mine emailed me a link saying the guys were kappas. (One of them is a friend of ours and went to Southern) should have easily figured that one out with Kayne and all !!!
Does any one know what sorority the girls were in?
Tried to watch it again to see if they through up any signs but i didn't catch any:D

AKA_blackbarbie 02-10-2006 02:50 PM

Here's the link. Oh the band is from FAMU.

2007 Nominees

49th Annual Grammy Award Nominees

Go Mary, Go Mary!

jojapeach 12-08-2006 01:06 AM

Never dug the Jamie Foxx & Mary version of "Love Changes".

I'm amazed at the recent nominations like Justin's "My Love" alongside songs that seem kinda old such as "Georgia" by Ludacris and Field Mob. FYI, the dates for consideration are October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2006. Fascinating.

Go India Arie b/c I still love "I Am Not My Hair". They may just slide one to her because they can't ignore her like they did when she was nominated seven times. When you look at that, India may not show up. Can't wait to watch.

jitterbug13 12-08-2006 10:43 AM

^^^
She did win the next year though. The year she was nominatd they were feeing Alicia way more.

I'm happy Mary got a lot of nominations, but I don't know if they will show her love. Everyone thought Mariah was going to get a bunch in Feburary but only went home with two or three. Strange things happen at the Grammys. I would love to see who wins Best New Artist. It's anybody's this year.

delph998 12-08-2006 01:34 PM

Go Mary go!

I really hope India.Arie and Chris Brown win a Grammy.

I really want Chris Brown to win this one...and not that dang Be'yawn'ce!!!!! Chris has been doing rather well at these awards ceremonies...he has won quite a few this year, for being a new artist and what not!

Oh yeah, just noticing that Johnta Austin has his hand in A LOT of the songs and albums that are nominated! That is where the real money is, PLUS I like the song he just put out "Turn It Up" ...hmmm...I'm going to have to keep my eye on him...;) :D

unspokenone25 12-08-2006 03:03 PM

Don't forget The Roots were nominated in two categories...:D Their CD is the TRUTH!

AKA2D '91 02-09-2007 07:36 PM

Sunday night.

lovelyivy84 02-09-2007 09:51 PM

The fact that Janet Jackson is even LISTED in this category is sooo bogus. I think that of the albums listed I like Beyonce's best but that is NOT SAYING MUCH.

I'm excited about these performances as well. But, WAIT! Which one of those finalists is our soror?! I voted for one of them (forgot who); I hope it was her. :)

nikki1920 02-10-2007 06:29 PM

Her name is Africa, I think.

I remember now; I did vote for her. Thanks, sistahgreek! :)

I'm so glad that Mary won!! That was a long time coming!

She's not an AKA. She's a Delta. :D Let me know who wins. I'm watching Extreme Makeover and Desperate Housewives but I cast several votes for her.

DSTCHAOS 02-11-2007 10:11 PM

I need John Legend to stick to songwriting. His voice is horrid.

nikki1920 02-11-2007 10:13 PM

My bad. I wasn't sure, I just remembered she was Greek. I voted twice for her.

YAY that the Dixie Chicks won!!!! Was that a big middle finger to Bush and country radio?

Cee Lo and RHCP!! Yay!!!!

Obsession8 02-11-2007 10:30 PM

Sistahgreek CrimsonTide4: My bad as well. At any rate, I voted for your soror; I hope she wins. ;)

I missed the 1st half hour due to "business", but I'm liking the results so far. I'm also attempting to multi-task by taping the awards while I watch Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. I hate it when I have to do that.

Staying tuned...

CrimsonTide4 02-11-2007 11:08 PM

Sam, I see you and your man boobs!!!:o :p

BWAHAHA! :p

Lionel Richie's playing "Hello" is reminding me of The 40 Year-Old Virgin. That's so bad. :p :(

Okay, Chris Brown and the Stomp The Yard crew! :p

UpPinkies 02-11-2007 11:20 PM

X-tina did a wonderful job!! That girl has a voice!

I loved Hello:)

She sure does. I had chills up my spine.

I loved "Hello", too. It's just that I can't help but to think of that scene in the movie when I hear it (lol). :D

CrimsonTide4 02-11-2007 11:27 PM

Christina did a terrific job!

Go head on, young man on the piano!:D

Obsession8 02-11-2007 11:34 PM

That tribute to James Brown was tight.

UpPinkies 02-11-2007 11:44 PM

It was ok. I wished they would have played more of his music or had his band there.

black_princess 02-11-2007 11:49 PM

Luda

I loved his performance . . powerful

It was nice to see hip-hop perform more than a song to shake ya butt to . . . thogh I like some of those songs too :D

Obsession8 02-12-2007 12:01 AM

Prediction...

Given the scorecard so far, I'll go out on a limb and say that the Dixie Chicks will win for Album of the Year.

unspokenone25 02-12-2007 12:01 AM

Robyn Troup is the granddaughter and niece of Sorors. Her grandfather is William A. Lawson, Pastor Emeritus of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. I voted for her! I think she did a good job!

Cool beans! Yes; she did a good job. :)

Obsession8 02-12-2007 12:26 AM

Well...

That's a wrap! Take that, Dubya! :p

jitterbug13 02-12-2007 01:00 AM

YAY DIXIE CHICKS!!!! :D :D I've been a fan since college and I'm glad that they are getting more props for their work.

YAY MARY!!!! :D :D

LMAO at Luda thanking O'Riley and Oprah. :p

Robin did a good job, but was a little :( that Afrika lost. And I didn't know you could vote more than once. I didn't know that Justin could pay the gutiar and piano!

Xtina tore that song up. Where was she during the funeral?

Chris Brown: Why I was thinking "Why you are stepping? You only lasted 10 minutes in Stomp The Yard. And Ye had steppers at last year's show." And why he looked like he was about to pass out when he was done? :p

B: Save the song for two weeks from now. JHud: That dress made your girls even bigger than they already are. Please talk to Queen about how to dress to formal events that help the girls. :p

Show was good, but it has been better.

ETA: I love "Hello" ! :D
