Four years ago, Kelis debuted with Kaleidoscope, screaming at the top of her lungs a tale of a woman scorned: "I hate you so much right now." Delivering her words over punctuating Neptunes beats, Kelis established herself as a stylish, transcendent pop figure — a vibrant hip-hop woman who could cry, croon, scream and rock.

But since then, Kelis has only been found on the fringes, with a cameo here, a party there. She makes her formal return to the game December 9 with Tasty, her second album in the States. The first single, "Milkshake," is gaining a buzz on the streets and radio with its idiosyncratic funk and Kelis' sexy, euphemistic playground rap: "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard/ And they're like, 'It's better than yours.' "

In the video, Kelis plays up the seductive side of her persona, bursting into a diner called Tasty's Yard and tantalizing patrons with her sultry sashaying. Just as suggestive as Kelis' dance are her actions. At one point, she wraps her lips around a cherry and sucks its head off the stem, causing a mother to cover her child's eyes. With a 'sacred cow' milkshake machine pumping out shakes for customers and with Kelis' fiancé, Nas, playing a short-order cook, she turns the diner into the hottest spot in town, with everyone clamoring to get a look at her "milkshake."

Tasty finds Kelis running between sexy and pensive, confident and vulnerable, but perhaps the most remarkable part about the album is that the Neptunes are no longer helming all her songs. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who discovered Kelis and produced the entirety of her debut, only recorded five songs with her this time, including the tangy, bouncy pop tune "Suga Honey Iced Tea."

Kelis enlisted a range of other songwriters and beatmakers to help shape her album. P. Diddy recorded "Guilty Girl," interpolating a bassline sample originally used in the West Coast hip-hop hit "'93 'Til Infinity" by Souls of Mischief. Dallas Austin, who has worked with TLC and Brandy, uses a saucy, old funk beat for his song, "Trick Me," which features Kelis at her most kittenish. Other producers used for Tasty include fellow Harlemite Dame Grease, hip-hop hitmaker Rockwilder, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean and Raphael Saddiq.

In 2001 Kelis reunited with the Neptunes to record a follow-up album, Wanderland, which was only released in Europe (see "Kelis In Wanderland, But Still In Your Face"). It featured a duet with Gwen Stefani called "Perfect Day" and the song "Popular Thug," which was later re-recorded and included on The Neptunes Present …Clones compilation. Wanderland wasn't released Stateside because her label at the time, Virgin, was undergoing major internal restructuring. She has since moved to Arista under the Neptunes' Star Trak imprint.

Puffy behind the murder of his boy?!

I can't believe y'all ain't talkin' 'bout this. I heard it on the radio yesterday and just knew y'all had posted about it. Is it a rumor or what?

http://www.dotmusic.com/news/June2001/news20680.asp

Sean 'Puffy' Combs is embroiled in a host of new criminal investigations, involving two murders, gun-running and tax evasion, it has been alleged.

According to reports in New York City's 'Talk' magazine, Puff Daddy has been linked by police to the murder of Biggie Smalls in 1997, although cops have been unwilling to confirm details of any investigation.

However, there are also allegations that the rap mogul, only recently aquitted in his guns-and-bribery trial, may have been involved in the slaying of a Death Row Records employee in 1995.

According to 'Talk', Puffy's bodyguard and co-defendant in the trial, Anthony 'Wolf' Jones, has been identified as the murderer, with Combs is said to have been present at the killing.

Puffy's lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, however, has categorically denied the allegations, telling the New York Daily News that they are "entirely baseless and without any merit."

The magazine also claims that Puffy is being investigated by police in Las Vegas for gun possession in two separate cases, alleging he and security chief Paul Offord ran a nationwide network supplying guns.

The final allegation is decidedly small-fry in comparison, indicating that the embattled Combs is being investigated by US tax inspectors over allegations that he has failed to declare all his income.

the website says "No matter your Greek association or affiliation, grab these quick for representation. Full-grain leather upper lends comfort and durability. Rubber outsole for sure-footed traction. These GREEKPAK Pro Leather basketball shoes are proven to make you proud. See you on the yard."

i would like to think that your Greek association or affiliation would matter [ex: membership in the org]. I just think the semantics of this blurb leaves something to be desired.

It's unsupported articles like these that get people murdered. The media is constantly dropping little tidbits of info without a thorough investigation. All it takes is one fool to misundestand this article and believe that Diddy was in on these murders....

It has been suggested that NPHC orgs should NOT support these shoes. They were done without consulting the orgs and purposefully do not carry symbols or anything else to get around the orgs licensing agreements. I would caution Greeks from buying them and checking with your Nat'l HQ as to whether or not they have a position on them. For more info on this aspect see this thread http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...threadid=40548

So how are these shoes different from any other para that's out there without our symbols, etc.? (I'm only playing devil's advocate. )

Just because an item has our colors and the like (directed specifically to an org) doesn't mean one has to run out and buy it.

Thanks ST. I thought her name was odd. I have heard of Ione, but the article threw me off since they spelled it Ion.

I LOOOOOOVE me some Vince Carter, but, alas, I cannot have him. So, instead I will be happy for him and his pretty new wife-t-be...

P.S. I don't why some of ya'll are surprised that she is Balck/African-American...Vince is a "brother"--he majored in Afro-Am (not that that means much , as I know of some Caucasian Afro-Am majors also--but it means something) at UNC, and was all about getting that diploma...

I remember about VC getting the diploma.

*Hijack/My opinion*
I think that people are surprised about VC and Dr. Rucker just simply because of the fact that more than a few wealthy, high-profile black or multiracial men (err, Eldrick) aren't dating or marrying black women. I still think that much of the furor over interracial relationships is because of the perception/reality that the "better catches" aren't interested in us. I'm not sure we'd be so irked if it was Quantaquavious, Pookie, Man Man or Ray Ray crossing over.

*End hijack.*

Ditto on that, Ideal 08. I was at UNC when Vince first got there, he was cool peoples. But when did Antawn get married? lol I missed that.

side bar: I had a white AfAm professor who constantly tried to belittle the Black students' comments in class. He wasn't liked very much. Just b/c you studied it extensively doesnt mean you, a white man, can tell me, a BLACK woman, what its like to be black.

end side bar.. lol
just had to share that..

I agree. I thnk a lt of people who do not stop and think about the ramifications of a company trying to exploit our memebership might think they are cute and buy them because they like them and do not realize there is a reason why they should leave them on the shelf.

I do think the fact they are specifically targeting our orgs and are doing all of this on purpose is disheartening. They knew exactly what they were doing putting 1908 on a pink and green shoe or 1913 on a red and white shoe.

Steeltrap, I feel you on that. But I feel that we will be doing some ofour brothers a great injustice if we tassume that they will ALL go that route, when the fact of the matter is that some stay true to their roots...

BTW: I'm LOL at "Quantaquavious"...wow...

Again, I understand exactly where you are coming from (it starts at the college level, unfortunately (I know you know what I'm referring too)... :o

I understand what you're saying Ideal. But, as I said in my original post (see below) "not that that means anything...yada yada yada". I go to a prestigous, predominantly Caucasian university, and I've had some White Afro-Am Professors before...I also have associates that are white and are Afro-Am majors or minors...So, I do know how it goes... ;)
