Today I went to:
Yellow: had a great time, really clicked with one of the girls i talked with, their philanthropy project was cute although it had potential to get messy (puffy paint and nice clothes make me nervous) but it all worked out
Green: also had a great time, they had a very cute video presentation, and i talked to one girl who just absolutely cracked me up i couldnt stop laughing
Silver: had an alright time, not one of my top house choices but all in all it was ok
Blue: had an awesome time, their phil. project was also very cute, their skit was very impressive and i still feel like if all goes well i want this house to be my home
White: this house was ok, the major turn off to this house is its 2 year live in requirement, and being a soph that means id live in my junior and senior year so im very unsure about this (they did say people who rush as soph get first chance to live out, but this hasn't happened in years)
Indigo: also an alright house, the girls are all nice but i dont feel the same spark that i do at some of the other houses

For my top 3 i put blue, green, and yellow. lets hope thats what i get for prefs!!

mmcat 09-21-2003 09:03 PM

there you go....
lots of recruitment to go.
enjoy...enjoy and see how this thing plays out.

absolutuscchick 09-21-2003 11:46 PM

Hoping for BLUE, GREEN, and YELLOW!!!!

oceanphi01 09-22-2003 09:55 AM

Hehehe. I hate the suspense! Anyway, hope you get your top choices!

pinklady23 09-22-2003 06:58 PM

Got my invites back:
Silver and White

I dropped from rush. I wouldn't join either of those 2, not that they aren't nice girls, but i just dont want to be there and thats not fair to me or them. im completely devasted i got dropped by the others, esp blue, but i guess it just wasnt meant to be .
Green: Alpha Phi
Blue: Tri-delt
Yellow: DG

thanks for all your support, it really meant a lot

LeslieAGD 09-22-2003 07:53 PM

So sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted. :(
Hope you consider COB

mmcat 09-22-2003 08:14 PM

take a deep breath now and consider what else is out there.

Very good advice!

Btw, who was indigo?

pinklady23 09-22-2003 10:16 PM

indigo: a g d
white: a d pi
silver: pi phi

absolutuscchick 09-22-2003 10:36 PM

I'm so sorry everything didnt work out, I was totally rooting for you though! Good luck with COBing, hopefully Tri-Delt, Alpha Phi, or Delta Gamma won't make quota and you'll get to COB there! :) :)

Designergal3 09-22-2003 10:49 PM

Hey Lisa

I'm really sorry things didn't work out for you. I was really hoping you'd find the place to call home this year. You're still an awesome girl and I enjoyed seeing you. I know there is something great out there for you and I hope you find it soon.

lotsa good wishes for ya!

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-23-2003 02:04 AM

I'm sorry Lisa. Keeping my fingers crossed for COB if you're interested!

aephi alum 09-23-2003 09:12 AM

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out. :(

Maybe COB would work out for you.

Take care. :)

honeychile 09-23-2003 09:35 AM

Obviously, not every sorority is right for everyone. If Bid Day is Friday, you might be able to go COB by the weekend!

I'm sure you'll find that, whichever you choose, we're all behind you. Lisa!

DizzyDZ 09-23-2003 10:44 AM

would you have gone to indigo's pref party even though they weren't in your top 3?

pinklady23 09-23-2003 12:15 PM

out of the 6 houses i would have only joined the 3 that i listed as my top choices. i feel like as a sophmore i have a better idea of which houses i really would have liked to be in and contribute to and i wouldnt have been excited to be in the other houses (again not that they arent great girls, but just not my girls) and thats just not fair to them or to me. another thing i didnt like about those houses was a mandatory 2 year live in period. if they were girls and houses i adored then that would have been ok, but if i was miserable i would have hated it and ended up depledging or deactivating.
as for cob, i dont think the houses i want usually have to cob, and i dont want to get my hopes up becuase most likely i wont be cob'ed, and then it would be painful all over again. Then again, you never know...

astroAPhi 09-23-2003 03:47 PM

I'm sorry to hear that Formal Recruitment didn't work out. :( But just because those houses normally make quota doesn't mean they will! Keep on the lookout for COB events. I wish you all the best.

SparkliiQTMTSU 09-23-2003 09:15 PM

Im so sorry things didnt work out for you. Im wishing you good luck for the rest of the school year :) and you better stick around here :)

UMgirl 09-24-2003 12:56 PM

COB is started by the houses that didnt quota at the end of Fall Rush. Then next semester there is Informal Recruitment which is only done by maybe 3-4 houses at the most (thoses that didnt make quota).
After Fall Rush is done check the OGL to see what possible houses might be COBing. As someone said, it may not be the houses you want. Also check next semesters Informal rush too.
My thing is if you maybe want to check back into rush it's possible that its not too late. Call your Rho Omega and see. I dropped out my first year and although I eventually joined AGD a year later (Love it to death with all my heart and my sisters but, I will be honest and say they definately were not my fave or one of my top choices. But that goes to show you never know what can happen and things can be different once you're on the inside :D) I still sometimes wonder what would have happened if I have of stuck around until Bid Day.
Best of Luck and hope that you become a member of a great system!

AXWhoah 09-24-2003 01:57 PM

I definately agree with UMgirl. You never know where you might fit until you give them a chance. I'd say go to some COB events. Seriously you never know!

Moxie 09-24-2003 02:07 PM

i'm a sophomore and went through recruitment and pledged this fall. before rush started, i thought i "knew" the personalities of the houses well enough already and i thought i "knew" where i would fit in and where i would end up joining - but i didn't have a clue :D

i always thought all of the groups on my campus were GREAT, but i had never really been exposed personally to many Dee Zee girls until recruitment. i gave them a chance and WOW, here i am, happy as can be. even during recruitment there were only a few girls i got to know well enough to base an opinion on, but i figured that if they were having a great time and i loved them already, then the rest of the group had to have something going for them, too! you learn to appreciate your group even more after you pledge and i love my DZs so much already, more than i ever thought i would. i guess i can understand if you *really* don't think you can get along well in a group, but you seriously have to try to get to know some people in the group well enough to decide.

going through COB won't hurt anything. it will at least give you another chance to see what these girls are all about. if they're having a blast, i bet you could, too =) good luck!

DizzyDZ 09-24-2003 05:24 PM

I have a cousin that goes to U of M-- I'm pretty sure the only houses COBing will be Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Gamma Delta.... and you didn't really like either of them....

In all honestly we will see what happens. No one knows numbers yet and from the changes that Panhel made it looks like majority of the houses may make quota or somewhere close to it. Gamma Phi and AGD are both great houses and hopefully both will meet their goals

DizzyDZ 09-25-2003 03:22 AM

It isn't that I had anything against GPhiB or AGD, I just knew that Lisa said she'd join no one but DDD, APhi or DG... so i didn't want her to get her hopes up about COB that you guys all keep pushing if the only two houses participating are people that she would refuse a bid from anyway and tried to drop multiple times duing recruitment....

pinklady23 09-25-2003 05:25 AM

It's definitely not that i would only join ddd, alpha phi, or dg as the only 3 houses on campus, but of the 6 that i returned to i would have only joined those 3. on our campus you cannot recieve an invite back to anywhere where you have previously been cut, so there was no point in saying oh well id have joined chi o but they cut me after 2nd sets... etc.

It is true that in general the only houses who cob are a-g-d and gamma phi beta and neither of those are houses i am absolutely thrilled with.

this is the first year trying a new system on campus and it seems like its screwing everyone over. none of the houses my friends are in seem to like it. it is attempting to help the "bad" houses on campus to fill quota and its hurting hte "good" houses. last night i talked to a friend who is in a "good" sorority who ususally has NO problem getting quota and she said they are very worried they wont make it because they were forced to drop almost 3/4 of the girls after mixers. she even suggested writing a letter of complaint to panhel because what is happening to the rushee's is ridiculous. (*of course i told her if they dont make quota keep me in mind, not that im holding my breathe)

JohnsDGsweethrt 09-25-2003 06:12 AM

Aww pink lady I am sending good vibes your way and I hope that things work out for you!!!!! Everyone here is routing for you!

mmcat 09-25-2003 07:37 AM

old saying: nothing ventured...nothing gained.
in cob land, i'd say throw your name out and see what happens. you are under control and can always say no.

Designergal3 09-25-2003 08:41 AM

The system does have its good and its bad. Quota IS only 40.(back in my day it used to be 53...) if houses keep inviting back tons and tons of girls back, some of those girls are being set up for dissapointment in the long run. Say house XYZ is one of the top sororities on campus. If houses invited 75%+ girls back each time they'll end up at prefs with around 200 girls who really really really want to be a part of that house. in a sense, it is unfair to have 200 girls come back for preference parties when there are only 40 slots. So the girls in those houses may be unhappy with the system but they would have had to make those cuts eventually. The girls in houses rank the girls they want the most and those are the ones who they keep for each party and regardless of the system, those are the ones who still would have been the ones to get in in the long run.

one of my good friends in Kappa said that she heard alot of unhappy rushees who got cut from her house & she also agrees with me that its better that they knew early on. She also said while the girl might think she belonged there, if the house cut her, it was for a reason coz each house only really wants the girls who'll belong the most.

Lisa, if any of the houses you wanted earlier has COB, you'll definetely be able to go back. Its hard to show the girls during parties short as Mixers & 2nds what you have to offer. With how crazy formal rush is, it could have also been a system mistake. One of my friends last year ranked a house as her top choice, she was also on thier bid list, but the computer messed up and she got her 2nd choice house which turned out wrong for her and she ended up depledging in the long run and re rushing this year. Also, COBs are usually WAYY laid back and if you have a friend in the house, you'll definetely get royal treatment.

Don't give up coz something good will definetely come from this. Last year, 50% of the sororities didn't make quota (which some of them would rather die than ever admit), plus alot of the bigger houses have girls depledge so then those houses are allowed to COB girls to 'replace' the girls who dropped. Also, alot of the 'popular' houses have high deactivation rates and up to 25% of each pledge class either deactivates or depledges by the following year. (Nice huh? the things you never get told...)

Contact the Office of Greek Life today and find out for sure which houses will be holding informal rush and definetely ask your friends in houses too. not only that, just really think about where you felt the girls were most like you and go from there. if the OGL doesn't know of houses other than the 2 previously mentioned, email the rush chairs or your friends in the houses you did want coz they'll be able to tell you if they are or are not having COB.

Designergal3 09-25-2003 11:35 AM

Lisa

I just asked my rush chair and she said that there are acutally quite a few houses doing COB/snap bids. Apparently 50 girls dropped AFTER prefs & girls don't always accept thier bids. So find out ASAP what you can do!

absolutuscchick 09-25-2003 12:48 PM

HOPING everything works out!!!
