I never really watched her show, but I'm 'bout sick of Oprah. *I think* her topics are becoming too superficial and dramatic. Today, the show was about some girls who think they are ugly. My friend and I were like  . A five year old knows what she thinks but not to that degree--not enough for momma to a)film her and b)go all the way on tv. Then the girl whose mother used to cry and say "she felt so ugly today"? :( but then I was . Really, Ofrah!! I could go on and on...

Did anyone else see this episode?

Nope. Tomorrow's show should be better.

I saw this while I was getting my toes done. I mean I have students who are very pretty with low self esteem. I mean self esteem isn't about beauty its about confidence. Trust me I saw a monster at the club the other week and I promise she thought she was all that, and you know
what? She didnt care what I thought! I am not a big Oprah fan though....

But the show had five year olds crying about not being able to put makeup on....really, though? How did they get the concept of wearing makeup=enhances beauty? I'm like "It's the Mama's fault". Seriously. Your first sense of pride/accomplishment as well as self identification comes from your parents and they should've been nipping.that.in.the.bud from jump. Had the little girl talkin' about some 'I'm fat and ugly'...please . It's sad, but it's also pathetic how the little girl was being encouraged--in a reverse way, you know what I mean? By the mother choosing to dignify that comment with all that drama (taping it and putting it on tv and so on), of course the child is messed up. Parents need to get a clue!

Did anyone watch Oprah today?

Yvette Cade, the woman from the DC area who was doused with gasoline and set on fire by her husband is on.

It brings tears to my eyes. The day this first broke headlines on the news and right now.

I'll try to catch it tonight at 9. I heard the commercial this morning and made a note to check it out.

That was horrible! She is originally from Akron, Ohio. I went to highschool with her, She was such a beautiful girl:( I did not see the whole show. How many years in prison did they give to the animal that did this to her?

ljkelly 05-05-2006 08:36 PM

Today on Oprah

Did anyone see Oprah today? She had an update on a young boy who was molested by his mother's boyfriend when he was little. The boy, who is an adult now, came onto Oprah today to tell her that his mother has decided to marry his molester!!!!

I simply could not believe that!!:o

I saw that episode. If they said how much prison time he got, I missed it. Her pics prior to the incident were so pretty. She was so positive about everything too, that got me. I just kept thinking the entire show "men are crazy". You go to somebody's job, with some gasoline in a Sprite can, pour it on them and set them on fire?! That is absolutely nuts. It has never been that serious for me.

Actually Ms. SKEE, I think people are crazy! I saw the previews for the show, and something very similar happened to a woman in Miami when I was there on vacation. I will probably get jumped for this, but without desensitizing the young lady's situation, women have been known to do the craziest things to a man (out of "love"). I hope any person (man or woman) would get the book thrown at them for act of violence like that. I just don't want this to be a "man-bashing" thing.

SKEEphistAKAte 05-06-2006 02:59 AM

Men-people are crazy. Is that better? :p

I did see this show. His mother is outragous!!!! I felt sorry for him because he wants to go to his sister's graduation and can't because that man will be there. Just like Oprah said, he doesn't have a mother anymore, at least not in the true sense of what a mother should be. His family members, if they care about him, will not allow his molester to be at family gatherings.
If someone did that to my kids......let's just say I would make the front page of the paper!!!!

I just found out that they only gave him about ten years. *smh*

SKEEphistAKAte 05-06-2006 10:59 PM

^^ That is shameful. Hope he doesn't have any plans to "finish the job"... I just remembered the footage of the judge dropping the order of restraint...this poor woman has been dealt a bad hand all around. At least that judge is only on administrative duty now.

SKEEphistAKAte 05-09-2006 10:16 PM

This show on marriage was made just for me. I wish I would've told all my single friends to watch it. They wouldn't listen anyway, we all have that fairytale "that's not going to happen to me" view of marriage before we get married anyway.

lovehaiku84 05-10-2006 03:59 PM

Although I am not married, nor engaged or even really thinking about being married I sat down and watched this show. I do do hope to get married someday, but it really got me thinking about what it is that I expect out of marriage, and whether or not I'm just dreaming about the fairy tale the way so many other young women do. At some points in the show I felt like they should have just called the episode "Reasons why a woman should never get married...EVER!" because while watching I basically heard them saying that your life will be less full after marriage, and if you are married and think that it is not, you should take a closer look at your marriage so that you can see that you are only a shell of what you used to be. Even though on several occasions they said that they weren't bashing marriage, that is what I got out of it. By the end of the show though, I was only left with more questions, one major one being Is it even possible for a woman to prepare for married life and all that it will bring? Even with all 275 questions, etc.? I have no idea, but I'm glad that I have plenty of time to think about it.

Did wifey know that he was coming out at the press conference? That's all I want to know. She showed no expression. I don't how I could have done that either way. She should be applauded.

I think she did (according to the interview with O). But they are going through a divorce (even though O was calling his boyfriend life partner). He said the main reason he hid it for so long is that he couldn't be in politics and gay. :(

Sophist08edLady 09-20-2006 10:32 PM

I'm pretty sure that his wife knew. As a Jersey Girl, I can tell you that he had some of the signs and his wife always looked as if she was fake. You know with a big, fake cheesy grin :D It was as if she were trying to hide something.

OK. It would be very hard for me to be up there with a smile knowing that my husband is "coming out." Again, she gets mad points for that one.

AKA2D '91 09-21-2006 11:47 AM

I saw some of the show.
  • The dude knew he was gay for yearssssssssss. He asked Oprah where was she 35 years ago.
  • His daughter that's a teen or pre-teen, was she from another 'ship?
  • He and the wife married in '00?
  • Both of the "lovers" looked like they could have been his brother. :o

He says the ex-wife is in transition. I.know.she.is!

neosoul 09-21-2006 11:54 AM

ok where can one find reruns of Ms O? I can't afford to buy her box sets...

The Governor has been married twice and has a daughter with each of his wives....I wonder if wife #1 suspected him?

Professor 09-21-2006 03:01 PM

I saw the last half of the show and learned a great deal.

1. The guy said he would have come out earlier if he had known his parents would have been accepting. To that end, I wonder about the thousands of other men that hurt themselves and women by not being honest about their desire to be with a man.

2. I also wonder if the sacrifice of lying about ones sexuality is worth not having the freedom and pleasure to be who you really are.

3. The guy did not favor gay marriage when he was governor. Now he states he supports gay marriage and thinks society should afford the same rights to homosexuals (I never thought of it that way but from a religious view).

4. The partner was another story. I can't imagine being on tv crying about the love of a man - - - personally, that segment seemingly continues to identify gays as touchy feeling men which i personally dislike. I was ok until the tears and how this one is the others love of his life. I think they should have just said they loved each other and moved on.

jitterbug13 09-21-2006 05:39 PM

The only thing that bothered me about him and his partner (besides saying they were life partners and the governor hasn't finalized his divorce) is that they are living together and they have only been together 10 months. And the partner was crying and saying how much he loved him. I know there are such thing as love at first sight, but take some time to really know each other and don't rush.

And the only reason he didn't support gay marriage as governor is because he thought he was going to be discovered if he supported it.
