 Still waiting........

Edit:

NEver mind!! literally 30 seconds after typing that- IT'S HERE!!! YAY!! I'm going to have to keep myself from reading it all in one day...I want to stretch it out as long as possible!

Happy Harry Day!!!:D

MoonStar17 06-21-2003 03:25 PM

I FINALLY HAVE MINE!!!

My younger sister who is 13 called and told me she is way ahead of me since she is already on chapter 5, so I have some catching up to do :)

Happy Harry Day to all...this is so great!!!! Ive been waiting 3 years for this :D

UGAnchora 06-21-2003 03:49 PM

ooooooohh....I'm not even through the first 100 pages and its already exciting.....

ToBeSororityGrl 06-21-2003 04:54 PM

Just picked mine up from the pre-order at B&N. I drove by there last night at 11 after work and their parking lot was COMPLETELY booked, they were parking at other stores, and the cashier told me they had to wait in line to get a number to pick their book up and he said the line went clear around to another store so I was glad I wasn't there.

I'm such a nerd, I bought a HP bookmark for it too, hehe :p

polarpi 06-21-2003 05:08 PM

I'm still waiting :(

My mom checked the mail today, and I asked if it had come yet, and she said no. She just shakes her head as I get all excited about the new book coming out  ....she's not a big reader, so I'm not too surprised that this is her reaction.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Monday.....then I get to sit there and look at it for the next week!

OUlioness01 06-21-2003 05:34 PM

halfway through---don't worry, no spoilers

halfway through and on a dinner break! i love this book!

carnation 06-21-2003 05:40 PM

Finished it! And here's who dies--

docetboy 06-21-2003 06:14 PM

Halfway through myself...

...I have a guess right now on who dies - one of two possibilities...

I AM GUESSING it is either
Hagrid or Dumbledore

I wonder if I am right???

carnation 06-21-2003 06:44 PM

I pmed you. If you really want to know, look at it!

I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread until I read the book myself....but I am the girl who always looks ahead to find out how books end.....now I'm going to be anticipating the death to see who it is....

It's okay, I don't mind knowing ahead of time....

MoonStar17 06-21-2003 07:30 PM

Just what I was thinking...he is INTENSE...I'm on Chapter 12 now...the FedEx guy took long to get here...lol.

All I can think of is Yoda(yeah, Yoda as in Star Wars) saying 'Hate leads to the darkside'
I'm a little worreid about Harry.

SilverTurtle 06-21-2003 08:09 PM

Within about 4 hours (not even consecutive) I'm about 200+ pages into it. I had to make myself put it down because I'll be going thru withdrawl if I read it too quickly. :)

Here's my story.. I arrive at Barnes & Nobles around 11:30a.m. They are COMPLETELY OUT unless you pre-ordered it. The nice girl told me that the Target (only a few shops away) had some. I was happy that happened, though, because it was on sale for like $16.88 or something @ Target. :D But you can't tell me B&N didn't plan to sell a WHOLE LOT of those books today?!

docetboy 06-21-2003 08:18 PM

The one I got at SuperWalMart WITHOUT a preorder at midnight was only $16.17 before tax (46% off) :D

Yeah... YAY WAL-MART! :D

I'm on chapter 3, and this book is SO good! I'm trying to pace myself because I don't want to finish it too quickly!

UGAnchora 06-21-2003 09:05 PM

I'm trying to pace myself too....but its not working!! I'm already on chapter 14!

sherbertlemons 06-21-2003 09:47 PM

I'm on about page 200. I've been pacing myself. It's incredible!

lovelyivy84 06-21-2003 09:58 PM

I just finished the book (picked it up this afternoon at Border's).

It was good. I won't post any apoilers but I will say that I very much liked it. Here's what I WILL say:

No reaaaaal surprises at the end, but I have a WHOLE new respect for those rascally Weasleys!

Can't wait for book 6!

Beryana 06-21-2003 09:59 PM

I too got the book at Walmart last night/this morning (first in line I might add - how sad! :D). I am currently around page 300 and I can't wait to read more! There were some questions answered and a lot more suspense hanging around until now (what's up with Hagrid and Dumbledore. . . .)

Back to the book! I'm so glad that I have tomorrow off so I can finish the book and start again for the smaller details!

Sarah

SDTSarah 06-21-2003 10:24 PM

I just finished it...it's amazing, but I'm still feeling a little bit down about the death. Still, there's a lot of humor in it (especially having a mom for a teacher when the "state" intervenes!) and a lot of changes. What a great book.

DWAlphaGam 06-21-2003 10:45 PM

I finished it about an hour and a half ago; it took me about 10 1/2 hours to read it, but I was frequently interrupted by my 13-year-old brother calling me a loser for reading all day.

I was convinced I knew who was going to die, and I was surprised (and saddened!) when I found out who it really was. :( Poor Harry. :(

BTW, I *heart* Professor McGonagall. She freaking rules.

I think we should maybe start a new thread for the spoilers so that we don't ruin it for the people still waiting to read it or who aren't finished yet.

AchtungBaby80 06-21-2003 10:59 PM

Yes, start a new thread for the spoilers because mine won't arrive in the mail til next week!

But, get this--as we speak, I am sitting here in the same room with a copy of The Order of the Pheonix, and I haven't touched it! How's that for willpower? (I'm babysitting, and their copy came today.) I'm waiting for MINE!

KillarneyRose 06-22-2003 12:12 AM

I GOT IT!!! WOO HOO!!!

It's going with my husband to Memphis for a month tomorrow. Boo Hoo :(

Yes, please start a new thread for the spoilers. :D I'm still reading Book 3 and it's going to take me a while before I catch up with the rest of you:D :o

I appericate your cooperation in this matter:cool:

wreckingcrew 06-22-2003 04:03 AM

OK, i'm not gonna read this whole thread, because i don't want anyone to ruin the book for me, but y'all tell me how much torture this is.

My bday is on Tuesday, my mom has known all along that what i've mostly wanted is the Order of the Phoenix. Well, we go shopping today and she buys it, and i'm like, Oh, is that my present? and she's like, yeah, but you can't have it till Tuesday.

So, there's a copy of it in my house, but i can't have it till tuesday, and she's hidden it well so i can't find it and get a sneak peek!

TORTURE!

midwesterngirl 06-22-2003 09:36 AM

I finished yesterday evening.I enjoyed it thoroughly but I must say that I liked Goblet of Fire better.I do agreee that Professor McGonagall rocks. But I associate her with Maggie Smith now and I love Maggie Smith.I cannot wait until next year to see Gary Oldman as Sirius.

Done. The spoiler/discussion of the book thread is here for those who are interested: http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...threadid=35386

SSS1365 06-22-2003 12:45 PM

I am an idiot because I went and read the first two posts on the spoiler thread, and I am only on chapter 6. I did it to myself :p But at least I know I was right on my guess about who dies! And don't worry... I never posted anywhere what my guess was.

rainbowbrightCS 06-23-2003 07:55 AM

the book is so good, im am rereading it!

MoonStar17 06-23-2003 08:55 AM

im only on chapter 16, and this book is soooo GOOD!

so far im like...OMG the whole time.. my roomates think im mental!!!

my younger sister insists that we call each other when a "good part comes up" and we sit there and discuss what is going on...my mom says she thinks im crazy being 21 and talking to my 10 year old sister for a whole hour about Harry Potter..
we have a few interesting theorys..this has been so much fun!

im trying to hold out not finishing it, so instead of speeding through it in a night like i would normally i made an agreement to read only up to where my sister was...so that way we could finish it together... :)

i snuck a peak at the spoilers thread...but ill wait before i go there again :)

i just hope it wont be another 3 years before the next one

MoonStar17 06-23-2003 11:37 AM

OMG I am reading now and I HAD to vent my EXTREME dislike for this Umbridge woman...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

oh and Prof. McGonagall is awesome..

ok back to reading ;)

CutiePie2000 06-23-2003 12:10 PM

Wah...I have to "excuse" myself from this thread as I have 80 pages to go in "The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. Once I finish it, then I shall sprint over to CHAPTERS & procure myself a copy and join in all the Phoenix fun! woo hoo...

Good idea!! :)
Just beware...no matter how tempting do not take a look at the spoilers thread..the book is so good and keeps you from wanting to put it down :D

Happy Reading :D

CutiePie2000 06-23-2003 05:59 PM

I am doing my best, but it's tough. Thankfully, I have pretty strong willpower. Once y'all devour Order of the Phoenix, this is a good one too:

The Thief Lord
by Cornelia Funke

Kristin AGD 06-24-2003 10:41 AM

I finished the book last night. It was great.

I had to finish. I was getting really tempted by the spoilers thread. ;)

Schmeer 06-24-2003 12:05 PM

I searched and searched and searched all weekend b/c i was silly and didn't reserve a copy...and i FINALLY got it last night..OMG..so good. I read until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. Can't wait to get home and read more!

chideltjen 06-24-2003 08:51 PM

Newly initiated Potter fan. I just finished book ONE! sad sad i know. my roommate only has that one, book 3 and 4. Does anything super important happen in book 2?

I'd try to read book 2 if I were you. I mean if you've seen the movie (Chamber of Secrets) then that would be enough to fill you in, but the movie still leaves a lot of stuff out. Plus the books are so much fun to read! :)

chideltjen 06-25-2003 01:07 AM

i broke down and bought book 2 and started reading it. my roomie had it at one point but she might have left it at her home. i will be caught up someday.

but no... haven't seen the movies yet either. i am really behind.
