I know during rush I definitely don't have time to be browsing on the net. The year I rushed as a sister I tried to keep a GC journal of how my side went, and it was super hard! Heck, Jharb was posting comments about her rush and about my house, but I was too busy and preoccupied to notice until after the Pref Parties! I have a feeling that most of the sisters will be the same way. During rush sisters are sooo busy practicing, setting up decorations, getting the skit ready, etc. LOL I doubt a lot will have time to snoop on GC to see if any PNM said anything bad. Hehe.
I didn't put two & two together until bid day when Erniegurl00 came up to me and told me who she was either! We talked during 4-party day! lol! I'd like to know the names because it's easier to remember. Also when it's rush we never have time to play on the internet, a few quick lines in my LJ and a visit to GC to see if I got any PMs is about all I had time for! :)

I think as a pnm, I would prefer some privacy. It is very sweet of them to even allow a peek into their rush world, and to even take a chance at a rush infraction by naming names could be devastating to them.

So put me down as one who prefers numbers - BUT!!! Only with the pnm letting us know which number is which house afterwards!! With that system, no one can cry foul, yet each house can see what they've done right, and what they've done wrong! You can't get better constructive criticism than having a pnm say anonymously, "I thought their philanthropy project was really dumb," or "I just loved the ABC Sisterhood skit!"

MTSUGURL 05-26-2003 02:40 AM

I don't think I could keep up with numbers... I got so confused on the other rush threads. I'll give out names, but I'll be changing my screen name.

i just needed to correct myself. rush starts on aug. 27th, not the 25th. darn. that is two more days that i have to wait.:(

bucutie02 05-28-2003 09:50 PM

Okay so yesterday was the start of everything!!! I picked up the rush information packet. It was like a brochure on regular sized paper. It was informative and I am very excited!!!! :D

MTSUGURL 05-28-2003 10:38 PM

My recruitment info is supposed to come this week. Summer school starts for me next Monday, my volunteer work picks back up, and I've got my job going on, so I'll have something besides recruitment to occupy my thoughts. Whoo hoo!

Wishing good luck to all! bucutie-you KNOW I'll have my eye on YOU! I'm sending a special good luck wish your way!

thank you, thank you!;)

I CANNOT wait until rush starts. I am so excited!!:D :D

You guys know I will keep everyone updated. I am probably going to put house numbers as well. :) :)

IHeartAXO 05-30-2003 02:52 AM

go trojans!

Hi girls! I'm new to these boards and as I've been reading about several Trojans on the board, I've decided to introduce myself. My name is Whitney and I rushed my freshman year (which feels like forever ago!) and am really excited for rush this year! Mainly because I'm the co-head for Day One. Which basically means that I help run Convo Day for my house. :) It'll be a challenge, as Convo Day is one of the most important days, but I'm excited!

USChica06, good luck in the fall! Sorry things didn't work out last year, but I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. I'm glad you're giving it a second shot and just remember to always be yourself! :)

Oh, and just a warning: If you plan on watching MTV throughout August and September, please don't be scared! Sorority Life has filmed their 3rd season with a multi-cultural sorority on campus. We have no idea how the sorority or school will be portrayed, but please just remember that whatever is reflected on the show regarding rush and other sorority events does not always apply to Panhellenic. That sorority is not included in Panhellenic's formal recruitment in the fall. As the Panhellenic Delegate for my sorority, we've dealt with this issue a lot. Hopefully, we're prepared to answer a bunch of tough questions about the show in the fall.

Let me know if you have any questions!

justamom 05-30-2003 09:20 AM

IHeartAXO Be sure to pop over to the AXO forum! Lot's of great people and as always- the more the merrier!

It's hard to follow when there are several houses, but once it gets near the end, numbers work as good as anything-lets be thankful nobody has thought to use animals. Can you imagine-
the peacocks put on a good show. It was too noisy at the bird house and I just wasn't comfortable with those crabs!:p

rush is two and half months away!!. i cannot wait to closely see each of the orgs on my campus. *sigh* excited about summer school. i will get all As;) i start in two weeks. get ready University of North Florida Fall Rush, here i come!!!:D

sugar and spice 06-04-2003 03:01 PM

I wish there was somebody rushing at Wisconsin! I guess I was spoiled last year because there were three of us . . . oh well. I suppose there's still plenty of time for a UW rushee to stop by the board.

MTSUGURL 06-04-2003 03:40 PM

I'm excited, but thankfully I have summer school and work now to keep me occupied. I have almost all of my recs, a list of outfits, a hair and nails appointment, and I'm going shoe shopping this weekend (which I need to do anyway). 71 days left to prepare!

texas*princess 06-04-2003 04:13 PM

I'm so excited for you girls going through recruitment this fall!!!

I know a couple of girls who are considering it - once they are serious enough to ask for a rec, I will let you know, and try and get them on GC! :)

sugar and spice 06-04-2003 05:01 PM

Yay! That would be awesome.

Also, tell them not to worry TOO much about recs. Of course it helps to have them, so if they can get them they'll have an advantage . . . but Wisconsin is not one of those schools where you'll automatically be cut if you don't, so if they can't find somebody to give them a rec for one of the groups, they shouldn't panic.

Of course, since a lot of the girls going through rush at Wisconsin don't have recommendations, having one can give them that little boost that will make them stand out. :)

That's what I'm hoping, too! I'm sure more PNMs will arrive as rush gets closer and closer!!

I already posted something about this on the Pi Phi forum, but I will be starting a summer job in a women's shelter in inner city Washington DC tomorrow--which means no computer for Susan! I may be on GC on and off all summer, but I'll be back home to DSL and my computer (working in the school labs right now) in August. So, if we do get new PNMs and I don't add them to the list right away, you know why! :)

I know how you feel, I would love it if someone on here was rushing at Mizzou! I think it would be an interesting read since we have such a big and competitive Greek system. Oh well :( Maybe someone will come over the summer, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Susan, what you are doing is SO important in the scheme of life, I could just hug you! Of course, we will understand!

I would hope that, if you feel compelled to do so, that you will share your experience with us. I've taken people to our local Woman's Shelter, and worked with them in the past. When you think that they didn't even exist, say, 50 years ago, the whole battered women concept will seem unreal. God bless you real good!!

ztawinthropgirl 06-04-2003 09:23 PM

Let's all remain positive during Recruitment! It can be a rough process and very time consuming job! But, as the old saying goes, someone has got to do it! Keep your patience with others even though everyone is tired and sleepy and cranky! You're brothers and sisters! Enjoy it!

Re: Who's rushing in the fall???

[B]Who is planning on going through rush this fall, and at which schools? PM me and I will put you in the list! :) FYI, (we hope!) means that someone is *considering* rushing.

aurora_borealis at an undisclosed location ;)
AZpinkkittie at the University of Arizona
BlazerCheer (carnation's daughter) at Valdosta State University

I am rushing at the University of Hartford this fall!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)

If they're going to be in the Madison area during the summer and they want Kappa recs, PM me so I we can arrange to meet.

ETA: Carnation, I didn't see that BlazerCheer was rushing again. That's so exciting! Good luck to her, and keep us posted!

MTSUGURL 06-05-2003 10:19 PM

Let me just say this - as much as I love the Rush forum, I really hope I'm posting in a lettered forum come fall... ;)
I'm still waiting on recruitment info from school. I bought a really cute outfit yesterday... Hope I get to wear it during recruitment! It's a little too dressy for the first couple of nights. :)
I just about have all my recs in! Whoo hoo! How much I love the wonderful alum women of GC, as well as my friend's mom...

DolphinChicaDDD 06-05-2003 11:19 PM

I can't believe this- I've been reading everyone's rush threads and I am soooooooo excited about rush!!! I did COB for my local sorority, and then we went national...but I've never done formal or anything. I wish we didn't have defered formal!! I want formal rush now!!!! Guess I'll have to live off of everyone else's theads until my formal comes along.

But serisouly, there is one girl that I really want to come out for us in the fall, I should give her this website- cause then I know she'll want to rush!!!!!

I LOVE RUSH THREAD!!!!!!:D :D :D

Update

Still am undecided about rush. I was so excited when I thought my school juniors were 'free' but when I reread a PM I realized juniors are not and this being a third rush, REALLY cuts down my chances. Ugh, why do things you want SOOOOOO badly seem soooooooo hard to get?!?!?!

If they weren't hard to get, we'd all be rich with perfect families, go to the perfect college with our 4.0's, automatically be bidded into the sorority of our dreams, and waiting outside for us move into our dorms would be the absolutely perfect guy that will be the husband that we are sure we'll find in college.

Go ahead and rush - how many threads are there about people who rushed, did COB, and then rushed again, only to find they're home? Girl, we are all rooting for you, and there are so many juniors here! By rushing again, you are obviously showing your dedication and sincere interest. The unknown (whether or not the third time will be your charm) may be excrutiating, but imagine what it would feel like if you constantly wondered, "What would have happened if I had rushed again?" That kinda seems to be the running theme for us juniors here lately... Good luck, and I know that you will make the best decision for you.

Ohhh sweetie- I rushed more than once, so I know how you feel. I was really sad after I rushed w/ a not so good ending, but I tried again and ended up in my favorite house. I'm not saying this happens for everyone, but it's always worth a try... it can all work out :)

Good post MTSUGURL!

Moxie 06-06-2003 06:20 PM

i agree. mtsugurl is still a PNM and is already posting like a pro =)

kiqualey12 06-06-2003 10:58 PM

It's so exciting to hear about everyone already getting pumped for recruitment! It'll be finals week here next week for me and already people have recruitment in August! I'm sooo jealous! We have to wait until Oct. 2 and then I'm not participating because I have to disaffiliate because I'm an RA in the dorms next year. :( Good luck to all the pnm's! Just keep an open mind and follow your heart!

erin34 06-08-2003 02:23 PM

I am rushing at Kansas State University! put me on the list. :-)

trisigmaAtl 06-08-2003 08:33 PM

Just for the record (and for encouragement):

I rushed 3 times before I got home!

freshman year: dropped out because I was afraid to commit

Sophomore year fall: I LONGED to be a Sigma and was CUT!! so I dropped out (with only 3 houses to choose from, it's not uncommon)

sophomore year spring: was coaxed by sigmas I knew to come out for spring recruitmen (COB) and GOT MY BID!!!

It took a little pride swallowing and some courage, but it was WORTH it to stare at that card with my name on it and to have this pin over my heart. GO, do it. There's no way you'll get a bid if you don't rush;)

texas*princess 06-09-2003 10:24 AM

Yay erin!!! Best of luck with recruitment! Also, welcome to GC (GreekChat)! You will have tons and tons of support here for you while you begin your recruitment journey!:)

YAY! Rush threads!

I feel old! The daughter of a pledge sister of mine from Southern Cal is going thru rush as a freshman at UGA in August  She is absolutely adorable!! I will be helping with rush at UGA as an alum so I cannot wait till she comes thru!! She would be an awesome Gamma Phi -- she is a double Gamma Phi legacy (mom and grandmom) and a Kappa legacy (other grandmom)
:D UGA rush starts 13 August and 1400 PNMs (for 18 sororities) are anticipated!!!!!

By the way, I vote for rush threads with actual GLO names -- the numbers are too confusing to me too! But I agree that following the golden rule (as someone has already posted) and not saying nasty/negative things is the best advice!

I agree with you 100%. I hate trying to figgure out who XYZ is! LOL I think if negative opinions are kept private I would love to know house names. But that's just me :D

MSKKG 06-10-2003 08:30 AM

This old brain likes the use of actual GLO names, too! With so many PNMs going through, I think it will be easier to keep things straight. But . . . whatever makes the PNMs more comfortable it fine with me!

sherbertlemons 06-10-2003 09:22 AM

I'm a young brain and I like the use of actual GLO names. Can I help it if I'm an English major and my eyes glaze over everytime I see numbers?
