Yawn

Watching some of the second episode. This thread is by far more interesting.

It's not a bad thing for the group if there's no huge MTV-type drama (remember how we'd heard rumors that MTV was upset b/c there wasn't enough drama during the filming of SL3 that they almost didn't air it?)- says more about their character as people.

However, as entertainment, as it's meant to be, it sucks.

I thought this episode was still just kinda dull... Eeek for midnight meetings to make key-chains... what was that all about? Could the meeting not be at seven or eight? I don't understand.

And I don't like Michelle. I'm not a fan of rude people, and she was just... blah.

astroAPhi 09-24-2003 11:35 PM

I agree, I think the show is boring. But you know what, I'm glad it is. Maybe MTV will stop trying to "expose" sororities if this season is boring.

I guess the other reason was because these girls are so passive aggresive. They try to be all confrontational but then they wuss out. Like when Salina (I think that was her) was talking to Michelle... she was like, I think you're not being a good leader. And then when Michelle would ask why she'd just kinda mumble or say, "Well, I dunno." Maybe MTV is trying to force drama out of them?

They do seem pretty nice and down to earth. Like every group of girls, they have issues, but we saw way worse last season. At least they don't haze for the sake of hazing.

I almost died when Michelle (the pledge chairman?) said "they are not respecting me"

Great now the pledges are talking about respect.

and when they said about a midnight mission I was thinking about the pledges getting hazed... I thought the mission was cute, but should have been earlier... but when the 3 girls where asleep I was thinking they would get in real trouble. It is nice to know the punishments is taking points away..

So this season is very low key compared to the other two.

Tini 09-25-2003 02:12 PM

I agree with the whole midnight thing... that sucks! And how are they going to reach 2003 points when they receive like 3 or 5 for certain things? lolol...

Anyway, Michelle seems like a nice girl. I think she just needs to learn some leadership and people skills, like how to deal with different opinions diplomatically, remaining calm and collected, etc... This takes time. She'll "grow up" soon enough. It's all about maturity. Cut her some slack... she's just a freshman. lol... I remember when I was a freshman I wasn't very good at public speaking or taking charge. These are skills we learn over time. I was impressed that she stepped up to the plate, having little experience leading a group. It does say a lot about her character. Sure, she's not good at leading the group... but she'll learn. I always love to pick new girls to help with projects and events. They have to start somewhere.

This is another reason we all love sororities, right? lol... They are great ways to grow, not just professionally but emotionally and mentally, as well. :)

IheartAST129 09-25-2003 07:59 PM

yawn yawn yawn... the Zeta's bore me...

oh how I yearn for the days of Jordan's hair products, Candace's booze-bagginess, and Jessica's whininess. Where are the taunting sounds of the word "DISRESPECT", Maggie's mega-boobage, and the Nicole-Tim "he loves me, he loves me not" extravaganza????

Can I get a bitch slap? Can I get a "this is so junior high"? Can I get a Candace vodka cocktail?
WHERE'S THE LOVE Mtv???????? :p

SirHornyToad 09-25-2003 08:09 PM

SL2 was by far the best so far. SL3 seems like a bunch of hippies dealing with stupid drama like the girls in SL1 did. At least SL2 was interesting because of the FL boys.

i definitely believe that was a huge assett for both shows. it was fun watching one perspective of a story on SL2 and then see a different perspective (always guys tellin a different story heh JK) on FL. plus it made you want to watch both shows.

Their meetings are all so late! I'd be sleepy too if I were them! I don't like Michelle and her attitude, she definitely can't take constructive criticism. I *especially* liked Michelle's comment to another girl in the car, something to the effect of they're acting like sorority girls, being all b*tchy.

i definitly agree!!

how FUNNY was it on SL2 when nicole would be like "ooohhh...tim is so great, i am in love with him...blahbidity blah, i just want one kiss..." and then you'd watch FL and tim would be like "i don't like nicole. she's weird. she acts like we're going out. i don't want to kiss her at all."

(now i'm rememering the night they actually did kiss at the formal...it was like all in slow motion and super corny. ugh. ridiculous. lol).

peace,
jamie:)

BadSquirrelBeta 09-26-2003 11:13 AM

STAY OFF THE KNEES!

Hey to all you actives that are watching SL:3, be sure and remember to KNEEL the next time you have to give something to a fraternity guy...

WHAT was that all about??? I am sorry, but WHERE did she get that idea??

But then again, I guess that I would have been Ultra B*tch if someone was forcing me to go to meetings at midnight too.

Texas-Gal 09-26-2003 12:29 PM

I don't know... I'm still partial to the SL:1 girls: green beans, glass door face smack, red tank tops, concerns concerns, sober sister, weiner intervener, "gatorade", trust exercises, [bleep]-ing on legs, formal & strip clubs, de-pledging - and kissin' Candace. Good times.

i have to agree with you here.. i haven't been able to get into the show as much as i did with the first season... are they ever going to repeat those episodes?? i guess if not, i can just relive it through your excellent recaps!

SL1 was such a sensational, train wreck, piece of crap that it is burned in our brains forever. I don't think any other SL Season will live up to that...especially now that chapters have seen a few seasons.

T-Shirts

I heard about the dispute between greek101 and MTV, but why is the org letting the pledges wear shirts with letters on them???????

Most NPC groups allow their pledges to wear letters on shirts.

SoCalGirl 09-27-2003 12:24 AM

I noticed that the pledges were wearing the name spelled out by not the letters. It makes a differnce.

As for the kneeling thing, Michelle probably just thought it'd be sweet 'cause what girl doesn't get a kick out of a guy presenting her something on bend knee? Probably thought the guys would like it too.

stargirl725 09-27-2003 05:10 PM

Looks like the sisters of Zeta Sigma Phi don't care about ruining the surprise, cause here's their list of who made it from this new pledge class...

Wow about Carmen, I guess she just got burnt out. She tried so hard. I feel really bad for her. Meena is not a surprise, but I worder if she dropped or if they dropped her.
I am not sure about Francia. Don't know what to think about her.

Yesterday afternoon, I saw a little bit of the first two episodes. Could somebody explain to me the point of those keychains? Were they for a fundraiser or to give to a fraternity?

I was complaining and cursing at MTV. I was on the verge of having a screamfest. Oh well, there goes my boycott!

BTW, EmptyV is having a casting call for future seasons of SL and FL. They have an email link. That would be the ideal time to voice our concerns and express our outrage!

The keychains were for a fraternity who had initiated new members. The keychains were presents for the new members.

According to TexasGal's DoubleSweetie website:
"there is a big brouhaha surrounding pledge Meena, and she is kicked out"

Tell MTV What You Think

Looking at Catstars post above about MTV having a link for SL and FL life futures...that is a good idea. Unfortunatley I don't think that anyone would want to tune in when all they showed was the good works, good grades, support network of people, etc., that we know as Greeks that being in a GLO is a major focus of. Our society is just too caught up in drama and conflict...sad to say but true.

Keep fighting the good fight...:)

Carmen should not be a surprise because during the previews for the season, she said "I don't want to do this anymore, I hate them!" During the same preview, the sisters were sitting together and one of them said "we have to talk about the situation with our pledge Meena." The writing was on the wall -- one vote is all it takes to get the boot.

rho4life 09-29-2003 02:52 PM

As far as my org goes, one of the girls I was initiated with was Latina, and we joined a historically Black org. While the majority of our Sorors are African-American, we have white girls, Latinas, and hodge-podge girls [who have a little bit of everything]. At the end of the day, I want to be standing next to a girl I trust, regardless of the color of her skin.

AXWhoah 09-29-2003 02:55 PM

It is so sad that they could drive Carmen to that. She seemed so eager to be a Zeta Sigma Phi. I mean, when we get a new member like that we do everything in our power to make her feel loved and welcome. I mean I think we'd all be horrified if we drove her to say that she hated us.

zchi2 09-29-2003 02:57 PM

She might not of been talking about the sisters of Zeta Sigma Phi. She could of been talking about the other pledges.

Or she could have been talking about MTV, being around her 24/7.

phisigduchesscv 10-02-2003 02:19 AM

Is it just me or does any one else do this - when I see Michelle all I can think of is Melissa from Real World New Orleans. I don't know what it is but that is all that goes through my head when I see Michelle on screen and hear her.

Michelle and the whole LandRover thing is getting annoying. So what if all the other girls have cars and you don't I'm assuming that most don't have as nice a vehicle as the LandRover. And MTV is providing those vehicles for all the pledges to use so that it looks nice on TV when they are traveling places

Yes! Put a pair of glasses on Michelle, and you're exactly right!

LeslieAGD 10-02-2003 06:49 AM

I also considered the Michelle/Melissa resemblance. Michelle is on my last nerve already.

GeorginaDG63 10-02-2003 09:14 AM

okay so here is my solution...buy michelle a cute little bicycle...of course with a little rack for her books and little reflectors so when she comes home 3 hours past the time she said shed be home...no one will hit her on the streets...PROBLEM SOLVED hah.

i honestly have a feeling mtv said to these girls to create DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA...because if they didnt...these girls have serious problems...and yes i do say "girls" because that is what they are allllllll acting like...little girls...NOT sorority WOMEN.

SapphireSphinx9 10-02-2003 02:11 PM

OMG! I can't stand Michelle! She's just like Melissa from RW, just not as confrontational. She whines and cries over the stupidest stuff... And WTH is going on with the Land Rover? Why did she "steal" it, when she found out that Janelle wasn't home? What a crack-head! I seriously would have slapped her upside the head, if I was Janelle. Michelle annoys me.

Salina... She reminds me of a friend of mine. Have you noticed that in the confessionals she's dressed all cute and innocent, with her hair back in a pink headband and all. And then during the show it's like a total turn-around. I thought she was gonna jump Michelle, when she was in the hallway talking with that other pledge (carmen??).

Meena is not ready to be in a sorority. Honestly though, she's not ready for anything. Does she think that she's gonna be able to be on 3 dance teams and a softball team for the rest of her life? When you make a commitment to pledge an organization, you HAVE to make time... Don't assume that they will change everything for you. Yeah, she annoys me too.

Carmen's cute... It's sad to hear that she didn't make it. I hope it was on her, and not that she got cut. Maybe when she gets a lil bit more mature, she'll rush again. She just needs to know how to balance school and pledging.

I donno about everyone else. I definately think this season isn't as good as SL1... Didn't really care for SL2... But I watched it, because I watched FL1. Hopefully this one will pick-up pace.

~Beth

33girl 10-02-2003 04:02 PM

Does anyone know how far it is between the pledge house and the USC campus? I know Cali is spread out, but why can't they walk or if it is too far, doesn't the school have some sort of shuttle bus? Or, God forbid, mass transit?

I know I'm talking like someone whose school was small enough to walk everywhere (which I did) but unless you are a commuter from a different town I don't know why you need a car at college every day.
