re: York
I remember reading somewhere recently (C&C?) that we
had just colonized York College. Most likely a group there formed a local with the intention of becoming a Zeta, so they called the local LXA. |

The Local at York had been there for quite some time, I saw it before the name change on York's website.

Holy Shasbut, how many San Diego Schools are there, My head is a spin!
Like alphabet soup of USCD and G! Drove up though one time that was a beautiful Campus up on a hill. Which one was that!? |
lenoxxx can you list the Link for your info.
I checked our web site and it is ? Hopefully when Brother Jenson gets it redone, it will be easier to Navigate. Thanks!:) |
I guess I'll have to start attending the annual ship's reunions I get invited to in San Diego....another LXA chapter/colony to visit!
I just hope they aren't the same bunch of SDSU surfer-bro's they used to have. They were a lot of fun, but, they didn't exactly bleed PPG, it was more bleeding of beach sand and salt water. |
Hm,
I was just scoping out the National wesbite and It looks like Eastern Washington and Weber State Never happened last fall. Any know what happened? And hey welcome to the 5 million new Lambda Chi Brothers on here zax Lenoxxx |
I know that Weber State did happen, although it is not listed on the chapter link on Lambdachi.org. Shane Foley head of chapter operations was in town at our chapter monday and told me it happened, I didn't ask about Eastern Washington though. He told me Lambda Chi has 150 possible expansion sites that they have been invited to, they are just colonizing at their top priorities right now and working their way down.
|
I've heard through the grapevine that Indiana State may be making a comeback, too...

Liked honkys post on another thread.
125 possibilities and looking at the best! There are many Schools out in College Land that do not have the Benefit of LXA on Campus!:) Come on lenoxxx, you are supposed to be the guru of New Colonies.:) That is your job so dig in and roll up the sleeves!:D Wish there were more around the K C area. But pretty limited. Mo. W U which went dormante. NW Mo U. never been there. SWMoU, that was dechartered last year, hope to be back in the future. Emporia St. U, Ks, SW of Kansas City. |
Hey I just looked online, did the expansion to recolonize ever really happen? UC and our own website seem to say that it didnt.
Lenoxxx |
Lenoxx, ist that the one I found that really doesnt point out much? Navagation is terrible.
One Brother (?) is trying to update INT Web Site and probably hard to keep up with.:( While overall, the web site looks good, it is a biotch to really find anything out isnt it? That is one reason I raised cain about getting info out to Those Brothers who want to be updated. Now, there seems to be more IHQ emails to give us a better idea. I just hope they keep forth coming. The Brothers on GC and there are a lot of us want to keep informed about Our Fraternity. Why, because We care.:) We on GC do touch a lot of Brothers across LXA Land. |

Oops University of Calgary
|
I never heard of a colonization or recolonization at the University of Calgary. It was never on the LCA website. So I guess you would be right about it never happening. Also an update, Lambda Chi lost its bid to recolonize at Duke University, their IFC choose Pi Kappa Phi to begin in the fall.
|
HONKY thanks for The updated info.
So, can We say Duke screwed up!!!!!!:( |
Hold on...Duke shut down in the 60's due to differences over membership issues (at the time....National said NO to jews, Duke wanted to admit...couldn't compromise, so they turned in the charter in protest)...but didn't they try recolonizing in the 90's once already?
Could that be why they passed this time? |
DUKE
I dont think LCA tried to recolonize DUKE in the 1990's, I just read the article about this and Pi Crapp shut down there in 2000, and they get another chance at this already? They should have given us or Delta Upsilon a chance, I suspect it was inside politics.
However, because bad karma fucks you, Pi Kapp just got closed at Shippensburg University. Never liked those clowns, never will. Lenoxxx |
lenoxxx,
I hear you, they are that way here too, complete burn outs. I thought the Duke chapter was shut down b/c they didn't want to change? They wanted to be the traditional whites only club. |
Yeah I had heard that they were kind of the no blacks no jews crowd in the 1960's (LCA at Duke) but to me that is meaningless, those guys are in their mid 60's by now. Sort of like blaming the Rutgers LCA chapter for killing a kid in 1988 back when Whitesnake and spandex were popular, get over it.

Rutgers, Phi Zeta, 1913.
Duke is amazing, dont accept one of The largest and most progressive International Fraternitys? As you said, I am sure a lot of Local Polotics may have been at work.:( Do $$$ sound right? But, other fish to fry and places to go.:) |
I'd liek to see us go back to Rutgers. I dotn think we ever will. it was such a traumatic event in LXA history, I think its too painful. Plus, dont know if the school would want us back.
The rutgers event was a sea change for us in LXA and changed the very way we do business. It was our first death in recent history and first experience with SUPER bad PR on a national scale. Its interesting how 7 years later when the same exact thing happened at Iowa, we went back 4 years after the incodent. I just think the wounds are too deep for us to return to rutgers. |

However from what I heard from people in the same system; numbers where an issue - basic requirements where not met numbers wise. I'd personally love to see them get a start (and had a ticket to visit if they did) but some numbers need to be met to make the process feasible - though I may differ on what those numbers may be in Canada... |
Hm, Numbers!
It is a big deal anymore. So, the question is why.? It is Economics plain and simple. Travel time of ELCs and othere visitations from IHQ personell. Am I debasing them. No. To be truthful, I have told My Zeta, shit or get off of the pot. We should have been closed and I will admit it. Numbers!!! But, We are in the process of building a New House. No one hates it worse than me as the Founder. Can I understand it from a monetary stand point, yes, I can along with many alums who have placed our monies into the Chapter. We still will for one reason only, We Beleive in Our Zeta and what LXA stands for. What We do is Help each other.:) |
Travel time and the effort invovled for ELCs is understandable... but I don't know how much of a difference having someone from IHQ would have made.
GLOs are a hard sell in Canada - first you have to convince the students you exist (most don't know GLOs are in Canada); then you have to work on combating all the negative images they have about GLOs; finally then you can work on selling the idea of joining a GLO. All this while trying to make sure that they are interested in joining for the right reasons - and not because they want to live out the "frat boy" stereotype from the movies... Unfortunately the first two steps are often as far as you get with the majority of students. History hasn't helped either - most Universities severed recognition and acceptance back in the 60s because of some big cases of prejudice associated with either the chapter or the HQs. For example at UofT GLOs are finally starting to get some "official" recognition (PanHel, APhiA, AEPi, and the equivilant of our IFC) after 44 years as a non-entity on campus. |
OKAY, We all know, that ELCs are the Rah Rah, of IHQ. Except, they are there to work with and "Try" to work and explain to Zetas what really need to be done. They are in the Guidence end, not beat the hell out of them. Remember, They are Brothers, not to far removed form College Days.
I know, I asked a ELC to stand by for me and drove 2 hours to spend an 1 1/2 hour with him. His last go around and didnt file paper work that should have been done.:( |
Very true... ELCs aren't some "white knight" that rides in a sets everything right - they are there to push the chapter in the right direction, and ultimately it is the chapter that must heal/fix/improve itself.
However I also understand that ELCs can get burnt-out, just as an active can... but when one active isn't on top of his game it doesn't really have that much of an impact compared to an ELC thats burnt out. My arguement about the Calgary colony was that an ELC wouldn't have "saved the day" with a visit - although he may have helped I don't think a visit would have helped get the numbers needed. I do know that the guys there are still interested - and some are dedicated to making a go again soon; they just need to have the support and will to make it... and if my friend Adam decides to pursue his medical degree there I'll be sure to visit and lend what support/advice I can. If I hear more - my brother's old rommie is a newly minted prof. there - I'll be sure to pass it on to the board. PS> We really should just change the name of this thread to 'Expansion' |
hi guys, not to totally crash your board...

I believe you're referring to USD, but as a UCSD student myself, I'd like to believe that my campus has a lot to offer! And yes, while it is still a fairly quiet matter of expansion, poth Panhellenic and IFC are very excited about this new fraternity to mix things up a bit! |
Lambda Chi Alpha Newsletter
Its wierd becuase the latest Lambda Chi Alpha newsletter listed all the current colonies, but it didn't mention Weber State or Eastern Washington. But I remember that I had spoke to Shane Foley head of chapter operation and he said we did have a group at Weber State. So I wonder why they didn't make on the list.
These were the current Lambda Chi Alpha Colonies East: Florida Int'l; North Carolina A&T*; Spring Hill*; Towson; West Chester; York (PA) Central: Elmhurst*; Iowa; Memphis; Southeast Oklahoma; St. Louis COP; Valparaiso West: Alaska; Cal-Davis; Idaho; San Diego State; Texas A&M Int'l; Utah There are three chapters chartering this spring, and they have West Chester listed which is an expansion site for this Spring 2005. So where is Weber State? or Eastern Washington? |
Hey HONKY
Didnt I say something about those two not happening? Lenoxxx |
I believe that in the fall LCA will be expanding to Case Western Reserve University. It will be a recolonization becuase it is the Alpha-Nu Zeta and was closed in 1963.
|
fast !
Honky, hey according to the email I just got CWR just got started now like last week or so, not this fall Good job LCA!
Lenoxxx Growing the Brotherhood: Lambda Chi Alpha has started expansion efforts at another top tier institution last week. Fourteen men made up of leaders from across the campus in such areas as: ROTC, Residence Life, Amnesty International, Freshmen Orientation, Habitat for Humanity, along with many other campus and community activities began their journey on Thursday, March 24 at Case Western Reserve University. The institution's vision is "be the most powerful learning environment in the world." Lambda Chi Alpha at Case has already begun to live up to this vision with holding the highest GPA on campus with a 3.5 GPA. Lambda Chi Alpha at Case Western Reserve University was open from 1918 until 1963 as Alpha-Nu Zeta. Welcome back, brothers! |
Expansion to San Jose State U
The Interfraternity Council of San Jose State University will select one out of three fraternity finalists - Delta Sigma Phi, Lambda Chi Alpha or Sigma Alpha Epsilon - by the end of April as it expands its council.
The last time a fraternity was added was in 1998 when Pi Kappa Alpha joined the council. Currently, eight SJSU fraternities are part of the Interfraternity Council. The council decided to add a new fraternity this year because of the Campus Village housing project, which is likely to entail an increase in number of students and their proximity to the SJSU campus. Lets hope LCA gets it this time. |
From the 'new colony' thread...
CONGRATS to LXA, we've chartered a BUNCH of chapters this semester. I believe we only chartered ONE in Spring of 2004 (Pi Gamma Zeta) at Kent State. We chartered NONE in Fall of 2004. Including San Siego State this thursday, Springhill College last week, North Carolina A&T in April, Elmhurst in March, and Incarnate Word in February brings a total of FIVE this spring. While we've only closed ONE chapter this academic year - Ball State. Good job to HQ and to John Otten and the expansion staff. The brotherhood needs you to keep up the good work. Hopefully this is the beginning of the turnaround!! |
Heard through the grapevine....
University of Texas at Tyler. Know a presentation was being put together. I am assuming it was/is for expansion. Dont know when tho.... Am trying to get more info. The schools website doesnt say anything about greeks. |
UT-Tyler
Quote:
May 23, 2005 Four fraternities and five sororities will make presentations on campus to potentially receive an invitation to colonize at UT Tyler in the near future, Mindy Sutton, director of student development, announced. The initial goal is to yield two North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) fraternities, two National Panhellenic Council (NPC) sororities and one fraternity and sorority from the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). The first fraternities and sororities could arrive on campus as early as fall 2005, said Sutton. All presentations are open to the UT Tyler community, and will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 – Friday, June 14 in the University Center, rooms 221 and 227. Each presentation will last approximately one hour with a 30-minute question-and-answer session and reception to follow. The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, May 24: Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority Wednesday, May 25: Sigma Kappa Sorority Thursday, May 26: Delta Gamma Sorority Friday, May 27: Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Tuesday, May 31: Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Wednesday, June 1: Chi Phi Fraternity Thursday, June 2: Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Friday, June 3: Gamma Phi Beta Sorority Friday, June 14: Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity From these presentations, a committee, composed of UT Tyler faculty, staff and students, will recommend to the dean of student affairs and vice president of student affairs which fraternities and sororities should receive invitations to colonize at UT Tyler. "We are very excited about the number and caliber of the fraternities and sororities interested in starting chapters at UT Tyler. We have a strong field of potential groups, which will make the decision even more difficult for our committee. Any of these groups would be a great addition to UT Tyler's campus life, and membership in them will only enhance a student's experience here," said Sutton. The process is long and interesting. The first step of implementing Greek life was to inform the national governing bodies of UT Tyler’s interest in starting a Greek system. Interested fraternities and sororities provided information, and a committee composed of faculty, staff and students selected four fraternities and five sororities to present to the UT Tyler community. After the fraternities and sororities present, the committee will invite two fraternities and two sororities to colonize in the ’05 -’06 academic year. “The committee is looking for groups that contribute to the university’s mission in promoting academic excellence, adhering to their national organization’s risk management guidelines, providing community service and enhancing the college experience,” said Mindy Sutton, director of student development. An overwhelming student interest in bringing Greek life to UT Tyler was identified through a survey. The decision to begin with two fraternities and sororities and one historically African-American fraternity and sorority was based on UT Tyler’s makeup. In the 2005 spring semester, UT Tyler’s ethnicity breakdown was 77.7% Caucasian, 10.2% African-American, 5.4% Hispanic and 6.7% classified as other. “Every fraternity and sorority belongs to a national governing body. The groups we are looking to bring to UT Tyler belong to only three of these bodies, and each has a different colonization process,” said Sutton. With the growth of the university and diversity in population, future fraternities and sororities will reflect the different nationalities represented. Every Greek organization will be open to all UT Tyler students. All Greek organizations are based on four common pillars: scholarship/academics, community service/philanthropy, brotherhood/sisterhood and leadership. |

Read the paragraph below. Looks like colonization by quota!
