He cut down from last week (106) due to the word "dope".
I'll count that also and get back to you. My votes are:
Ruben (I'll donate $20 Old Navy Gift Card)
Kimberely

Clay (he does have his own special look)

I really hope the Julia or Carmen gets booted off. Also Ricky didn't sound great but not all that bad either.

ANOTHER 'IDOL' CONTROVERSY
March 27, 2003 | First FRENCHIE was booted off "American Idol." Now,
a report has surfaced that TRENYCE was once arrested for felony
shoplifting. According to the District Attorney's office, Trenyce
was arrested October 6, 1999 on suspicion that she had shoplifted,
allegedly from the store where she worked. She was booked under her
real name, LASHUNDRA T. COBBINS, on two counts, but reportedly after
she complied with the court's orders to attend a program and stay
out of trouble, her record was expunged. A show spokesperson tells
ET that Trenyce was upfront with producers and they were aware of
her situation. There were never any plans to remove her from the
competition because she was never convicted of a felony.

Another "Idol" Scandal
Thursday March 27 5:30 PM ET

By Lia Haberman

Given the shady nature of Fox's reality series' contestants, the net might want to consider casting its shows directly from the state penitentiary.

Fox's latest jailbird is 22-year-old American Idol finalist Trenyce (aka Lashundra Cobbins), who managed to avoid the chopping block this week with a rendition of "I Need You." Following in the Fox tradition of scandal-plagued contestants (Sarah Kozer, Frenchie Davis, Jaered Andrews, Taheed and Ytossie...) the unemployed singer from Memphis has a prior rap sheet, according to a report published on the Smoking Gun Website.

Along with her powerful set of pipes, Trenyce apparently has 10 sticky fingers, which got her busted in October 1999 for a felony theft charge.

Now living it up in Hollywood luxury, Trenyce was forced by a Shelby County, Tennessee, criminal court judge to spend a year in a pretrial diversion program. The wannabe diva's record was later wiped clean for good behavior.

According to her show bio, when asked about her most embarrassing moment, Trenyce responded: "I don't have one that I can think of." Maybe if she gets a look at the sullen mug shot from the files of the Memphis Police Department, published online by the Smoking Gun, she might reconsider.

The producers, who at the very least should start wearing bullet-proof vests and leaving their valuables at home, released a statement today: "It was a minor matter that Trenyce was honest about from the beginning. After looking into it we felt it warranted no concern regarding her participation in the show," said Idol's coexecutive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

The statement stands in sharp contrast to the swift dismissal of former Idol contestant Frenchie Davis, who was booted from the show when news broke that she posed topless for an adult Website that peddles kiddie porn. (Davis says she was of consenting age when she did the photo shoot.)

However, judging by Frenchie's success since her dismissal it would appear a little scandal can't hurt a reality TV contestant's chances. Along with the support she received from viewers, Frenchie was signed to a management deal with Idol producers 19 Entertainment, she became the source of a Saturday Night Live parody starring Queen Latifah, she served as a Grammy correspondent for Entertainment Tonight, and she's currently meeting with record and movie execs.

Of course, there's scandal and then there's murder. The latter is the problem plaguing disgraced contestant Jaered Andrews, who was kicked off the show in January.

Instead of meeting with music execs, Andrews is getting intimately acquainted with the Mercer County court system after being arrested earlier this month for a bar brawl that ended in the death of a fellow patron.

Andrews was celebrating his Idol nomination with friends last November when a fight broke out with one Thomas Blakeley. Andrews allegedly knocked Blakeley to the ground where he hit his head on the sidewalk and died.

Andrews, who remains free on $5,000 bail, had a preliminary hearing March 14 and is likely to be arraigned in the next few months. He faces up to a year in prison if convicted on the assault charge.

Idol, meanwhile marches on. Trenyce is one of nine finalists remaining after Julia DeMato got voted off Wednesday night.

First Frenchie, now this. Since the producers know about these kids' pasts, I'm starting to think they are purposely setting these poor kids up to draw in higher ratings.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

if your record is expunged doesn't that mean if a search is done this information should NOT be available to the public? Especially if she was under 18 at the time of the charge (I read that somewhere else)??

AKA2D '91 03-31-2003 01:43 PM

MARCH 31--An "American Idol" finalist is facing trial next month on charges he assaulted his teenage sister and battled with cops while resisting arrest, The Smoking Gun has learned.
Corey Clark, 22, was arrested last October following a disturbance in his family's Topeka, Kansas home. Neighbors called police after hearing a girl yelling inside the Clark residence on SW 33rd Terrace. One witness told TSG that while he heard loud noises coming from the home, "what finally caught my attention was a lot of screaming. Then I knew somebody was getting hurt."

When police arrived, Clark--now one of nine remaining "American Idol" contestants--and his 15-year-old sister Alecia were questioned separately by officers. After about 15 minutes, Clark became confrontational with cops, screaming and yelling at officers, several of whom responded by wrestling the wiry, 6-foot singer to the pavement. Clark was handcuffed behind his back and placed in a Topeka Police Department cruiser.

While sitting in the squad car, he was somehow able to get his cuffed hands in front of him, causing police to yank Clark out of the car and attempt to re-cuff him, the witness said. When he again struggled with officers, a cop showed Clark a Taser and warned that if he continued to resist, he would be shot with the stun gun. Clark then relented.

He was booked into the Shawnee County jail and charged with a variety of misdemeanors, including battery on four law enforcement officers, battery on his sister, and endangering a child. After three days in custody, Clark was released on bond, a condition of which was that he have no contact with his sister. On a bond application form, Clark wrote that he had worked as a "self employed entertainer" for the prior eight years and was "currently enrolling into school for audio engineering."

On December 4, just days after Clark was tabbed as one of the final 234 "Amercan Idol" contestants, he was named in a three-count misdemeanor complaint filed by prosecutors in Kansas District Court. The complaint, which modified the original police counts, charged Clark with resisting arrest, battery upon his sister, and criminal restraint. If convicted of the charges, Clark faces a maximum of a year in prison on two of the misdemeanors, and a max of six months on the third count.

Along with three neighbors and five cops, Kansas prosecutors listed Clark's two sisters--Alecia and 19-year-old Ajia--as prospective witnesses. In preparation for Clark's trial, scheduled for April 15 in Topeka, prosecutors recently began serving subpoenas to those expected to testify as government witnesses.

In late-January, Clark was picked as one of the 32 "American Idol" semifinalists, and he has continued to advance in the competition. He is now one of nine remaining competitors who can be seen performing twice weekly in prime time on Fox Television. Shortly after his October arrest, Clark briefly relocated to Nashville, but he is now ensconced in a Hollywood Hills mansion with his fellow "American Idol" finalists.

The pending criminal charges against Clark were not the wannabe star's first brush with the Kansas court system. In April 2000, he was sued by Wal-Mart for passing more than $600 in bad checks at a Topeka store. One year later, Clark was sued by a Topeka grocery store where he allegedly passed a bad $50 check. In the case of the Wal-Mart lawsuit, it appears Clark made good on the bad paper nearly two years after the retail giant filed its District Court lawsuit. But that was not before Wal-Mart secured seven separate garnishment orders on Clark's bank account (though those attempts yielded only $49.77 and repeated notices from the Bank of American that Clark's account had "no funds," or was "overdrawn." The grocery store, JM Bauersfeld's, fared better, getting repaid just five months after filing against Clark in District Court.

So, were/are "American Idol" producers aware of Clark's criminal predicament? Well, TSG long ago stopped believing anything that reality TV producers say when it comes to what they did or did not know about a contestant's past. It appears that a combination of Keystone Kops background checks, participant mendacity, and unblinking network indifference has guaranteed that drunk drivers, bankrupt deadbeats, shoplifters, bondage actresses, and assorted convicted criminals will continue to populate reality TV shows.

For its part, Fox has adopted a blanket policy whereby network executives refuse comment "on the private lives of show participants." That's not a bad stance when you consider that this year's original 32 "American Idol" semifinalists included a convicted thief, an Internet porn model, and guy who's been charged in connection with a fight that ended in the death of a Pennsylvania man. In fact, Fox booted the contestant, Jaered Andrews, a month before he was even arrested for misdemeanor assault.

TSG will venture a guess that Fox knew about Clark's rubber checks, but were unaware that he had been popped for battering his little sister (if true, not exactly "Idol" behavior). Either way, April 15 will turn out to be a taxing Tuesday for him, with Clark scheduled to be in the Topeka dock at 10 AM and, as of now, singing live on TV later that day.

The hairdresser for American Idol has his own segment every tuesday on 98.7 up here in the Bay Area, and he said that a lot of people can't stand Corey. He said that Corey is always demanding things, talking down on people and just being a flat out nuisance. He said that when Corey was in the inner circle with Charles Grigsby a few weeks ago he and a bunch of fox workers and stylist held hands praying that Corey would get booted off

Maybe I am just being overly sensitive, but why is it that all of these seem to slip by the producers...and why they have to be the melanin-blessed folks? I mean, I know that Nikki McKibben from last season was found out to be a stripper, but I mean, she was just trying to pay the bills. Doesn't it seems that this is basic stuff that would come up on a background check? Not Frenchie, necessarily, but these last two cases are just stupid! Anyway, does it have some kind of clause that you can't have any blemishes on your record, or is all of this leaking out just for 'scandal' purposes? I am just a little  at this.

read the next line carefully, because I will only say this once:

Basically, yes, the threat of Black folks and Corey being an IDOL for real this time is a little too much to handle. Face it folks, it might be 2003 but some things are still not available to us.

Wanted: 'Idol' contestants
By Bill Keveney, USA TODAY

American Idol is sounding more and more like America's Most Wanted. The Fox show Monday dumped finalist Corey Clark because he didn't report his arrest last October after a dispute at his family's Kansas home.

Last week, Corey Clark was among the Idol finalists. Now, he's been kicked off the show because of an arrest during a family dispute.

Clark, 22, faces three misdemeanor charges, including battery. He is accused of assaulting his 15-year-old sister, according to a report Monday on The Smoking Gun Web site.

It marks the second time in a week that The Smoking Gun site has dug up criminal charges relating to a finalist. Clark is the fourth singer of Idol's final 32 whose background has been revealed to be less than spotless. Two other singers were dismissed during the semifinal rounds. Those with background difficulties include:

Frenchie Davis, 23, who appeared at age 19 on an adult Web site that was designed to appeal to men interested in underage girls. Producers dropped Davis from the show during the semifinals, even though she had told them of her involvement.

Trenyce (real name: Lashundra Cobbins), 23, who was charged with theft in Tennessee in 1999, according to The Smoking Gun. She took part in a pretrial diversion program that wiped out the charge. Idol producers say that she told them about the matter and that she will remain on the show.

Jaered Andrews, 24, who was charged with assault in a November bar fight in Pennsylvania that resulted in a man's death. He was dropped from the semifinals.

No decision has been made as to how Clark's departure, which reduces the finalist field to eight, will affect the show. Before his departure, the show was on pace to eliminate one performer per week until its finale.

Clark is scheduled to appear in court this month on the charges, according to Smoking Gun. He also has been sued in the past by merchants claiming he bounced checks, the site says.

According to a statement released Monday by Fox, Clark didn't report his arrest, which is required by the show. The arrest could have affected the initial decision to allow him to appear on the show.

In addition, a background check missed the arrest because the police report misspelled Clark's first name, the statement says.

"We regret the error, but the only thing we can do is learn from the incident, continue to improve the background-check process and move on," the statement says.

It appears to me that these "scandals" are being trotted out for ratings-boosting purposes. Then when I see stuff like assault and shoplifting among the AI contestants it makes me mad that Frenchie was given the boot. I shudder to think about who TSG will get next.
