I don't drink alcohol so your bleach drink comments fall flat. My definition of flash includes large expenditures for the only purpose of looking good. Hence debutante balls. I did generalize with the non-Christian comment, but I notice you weren't as shocked by my assumption you wouldn't be ok with interrracial relationships or people of other races than yourself. You also didn't comment on the fact that the country as a whole cares VERY LITTLE for your "old money" and that we don't want to hear you try to lord it over us all the time. Way to blow off an actual discussion for a snarky remark. |
Doesn't matter which one I'm from. I'm better than you. I have more members in my chapter. We have wealthier alumni. We donate more than you, and are donated to more than you. My house is bigger. My truck is bigger. My girlfriend is hotter than your boyfriend. I'm better than you.

Oh and just so the Southern guys know that is is fair, I think that SigmaChiGuy is just as annoying as most of you. If not more occasionally.

ziiiiiingggggggg
Why, thank you. |

I wasn't shocked because I don't care. It is very Southern and classy to be respectful of all situations be it interracial dating and Black Americans. That doesn't mean we have to like it, but one should respect it at least in public. I honestly don't care if the rest of the country cares about our old money or not, it is a defining aspect of Southern greek life. It is the reason we continue to be exclusive and important. SigmaChiGuy, you are honestly awfully pathetic. It seems as if you don't want to show your chapter. That's okay. All's fair. |
I know, it's funny doing it right back to the guys from douchey.net. And KLP, I don't care if I'm annoying anyone. You can either have me being me, or the group from douchey.net telling you how much better they are than you. But you can't have both.

We don't think you're better because you're "exclusive" and limit your membership to white "old money" guys. To most of us it's draconian, not cool. That added on to the fact that several of you have said you wouldn't treat your BROTHERS like they were, well your brothers. That's just sad. My sisters are my sisters no matter where they're from or where they joined. I'm not going to be best friends with all of them, but I'm not going to snub them either. If you don't care about whether the rest of us care, then STOP telling us all the time. It's like you have hear it repeatedly to make yourselves happy or something. /again, mental inbreeding //oh and the idea that you only "tolerate" black people and interracial dating is sad. I'm glad you do, but seriously, 21st century and all that. |
Looks like I lost that battle, bye guys. Have fun with them. Peace, I'm out.

One thing about old money: Many people view it as the Kennedy family, running around, causing trouble and being ridiculous...While this happens in the south, that is not the point of old money. In my family it has always been to better the opportunities of your children. No member of my family has simply lived off family money. My dad has worked his ass off to ensure that I will have the opportunity to do/experience anything I desire to. I don't take that for granted, its not like I'm driving a BMW 7 Series and blowing coke by drawing up lines with my dad's credit card. However, it has allowed me to choose what school I wanted to attend, go to the law school I wanted, travel, etc. Its not about having more money than _______, its about making sure your children don't want or worry over the things you may have.
Regarding 21st century things... I don't think people should expect much more than tolerance. I personally dislike most of popular black culture. I tolerate it, but it often disgusts me, what else should I do besides tolerate it? I think interracial marriage can cause significant problems in the future. However, it has never really come close to me, so I don't really think much about it. How would I do something more than simply tolerate it? Need I support it? I don't think so. |
I thought that one of the values of families with old money and the supposed manners and etiquette that comes along with that position in society thought it distasteful and ostentatious to discuss money and one's personal/family wealth. At least, that is my impression of what polite, well-mannered members of that society were raised to believe in.

The downside is the people who do act like their money, along with their Southern lineage, makes them BETTER than everyone else. You're lucky to have what you do, and clearly working hard to increase it. The people who say that it doesn't matter what they do because they'll work for their Daddy and live off their trust fund are sad to me. The only chances of me being rich is my grandma leaving me as her only heir in her will (not likely) or my (soon to be after I finish grad school) counseling practice starts catering to the Trumps and Rockefellers and Kennedys of the world. I'll be comfortable, at least until I send kids to private school, and I'll be happy. Those of us like me don't like having money waved over our heads and someone expecting us to be in awe of it or something. It's just embarrassing for the money wavers and annoying for us. |
I'm just going to say it, I don't like poor people who complain about being poor.

Your interpretation of this as poor and complaining reveals more about you than it does about me. |
Kddani, for the most part you are right. There are however situations where it is more acceptable. For example, we often get into financial discussions at a bar or something (me and fraternity brothers/friends). The discussions aren't "what I have/what you have" but more what to invest in, what is working for who, etc. Sometimes specifics are brought up, simply because we are all friends and are not trying to impress one another. However, in the course of explaining how you purchased a home or invested in a field, it is fairly common to reveal something about your personal wealth.

Where was the first shot fired in the Civil War? No, it isnt Harppers Ferry! A Hint. Which Three States had the most Civil War Battles? Where was the Gettysburg of the West? Is egocentric really a full circle? Some of the statements on G C on this post actually have no rhym or reason, just a little mouth jacking of the jaws! It is an honor to be proud of Your Heretige as it were, but to try and flaunt it as it is gospal is increadulous.:( I dont know how all You fine Southern Gents call it, but we in the never land call it cranial rectosis  Wow, this is really fun or not!:( |

Yes, I can be a nice person!:) But if a So Called Gentleman is from the South, can He quote History of what the South really was and is? Just an Ideal of the difference of a Southern "SEC" School being so much better than anyone else is a little beyond belief isnt it? :D No, shinerbock, I find that a little / lot narrow minded. There are many school that are known for many things other than being Neat GLO( schools such as mine. I dont brag on it a lot, but it has one of the best Tech Schools in the US. Golly Gee Whiz, My poor little state School Un. can brag about the New Commandoant of Culver Military Academy, Some big wigs with Chrysler, John Deere, Toyota, and Honda to name a few. Oh, bankers, yes We do have a few of those, partners in Law firms, owning their own Companies including me. I am just venting for some ego stupid individuals who have no clue what the real life is out there!:o My Vent for the moment! Sorry! |

For Your information, The Gettysburg of the West was in Kansas City Mo. Battle of Westport, was after Gettysburg, mail was slow back then that the war was over. Called the Westport Area where Danaiel Boones Son , owned an out fitter for the trek to the Santa Fe and Oregan Trails. (Great Bar:) Now and have quaffed a few there! Mo. is the Third Largest States of Civil Conflict. Virgina and Tenn. are the first two. Most battles fought here in Mo. and Ks. We told him he was being annoying so he quit... Don't you wish that worked for everyone? |
Yes, but its a hesitant yes because I am sure people would like me to shut the hell up sometimes.
|
I'm baaaaaaaaccccccckkkkkkkk suckas. I don't need to provide numbers, I just know. Similar to how you're from the South and better than the rest, my fraternity is better than yours - thats just a fact. Sorry you had to hear it.
Unrelated to this topic, I feel as though some of you Southern Gents are warming up to GC. I can count on both hands, how many serious replies you guys have had, and not just toting your cash or Souther roots. Keep up the great posts, they actually have some oompf. On a serious note, I like screwing with you guys - just as much as you like screwing with me. It's fun. |
