One thing about old money: Many people view it as the Kennedy family, running around, causing trouble and being ridiculous...While this happens in the south, that is not the point of old money. In my family it has always been to better the opportunities of your children. No member of my family has simply lived off family money. My dad has worked his ass off to ensure that I will have the opportunity to do/experience anything I desire to. I don't take that for granted, its not like I'm driving a BMW 7 Series and blowing coke by drawing up lines with my dad's credit card. However, it has allowed me to choose what school I wanted to attend, go to the law school I wanted, travel, etc. Its not about having more money than _______, its about making sure your children don't want or worry over the things you may have.

Regarding 21st century things... I don't think people should expect much more than tolerance. I personally dislike most of popular black culture. I tolerate it, but it often disgusts me, what else should I do besides tolerate it? I think interracial marriage can cause significant problems in the future. However, it has never really come close to me, so I don't really think much about it. How would I do something more than simply tolerate it? Need I support it? I don't think so.

I thought that one of the values of families with old money and the supposed manners and etiquette that comes along with that position in society thought it distasteful and ostentatious to discuss money and one's personal/family wealth. At least, that is my impression of what polite, well-mannered members of that society were raised to believe in.

I understand that, for the majority, this is the case. And when people say they travel because of their parents money, I may be jealous, but I don't think their snobs because of it. (I only got to travel because of my grandma's support)

The downside is the people who do act like their money, along with their Southern lineage, makes them BETTER than everyone else. You're lucky to have what you do, and clearly working hard to increase it.

The people who say that it doesn't matter what they do because they'll work for their Daddy and live off their trust fund are sad to me.

The only chances of me being rich is my grandma leaving me as her only heir in her will (not likely) or my (soon to be after I finish grad school) counseling practice starts catering to the Trumps and Rockefellers and Kennedys of the world. I'll be comfortable, at least until I send kids to private school, and I'll be happy.

Those of us like me don't like having money waved over our heads and someone expecting us to be in awe of it or something. It's just embarrassing for the money wavers and annoying for us.

I'm just going to say it, I don't like poor people who complain about being poor.

Was I complaining? I said I'm comfortable and happy. I am now too even though I'm trying to find a new job. I certainly not "poor" I'm not below poverty level, and assuming my job hunt is successful, I'll have enough to pay rent, go to school, live off of, and save. That's all I need.

Kddani, for the most part you are right. There are however situations where it is more acceptable. For example, we often get into financial discussions at a bar or something (me and fraternity brothers/friends). The discussions aren't "what I have/what you have" but more what to invest in, what is working for who, etc. Sometimes specifics are brought up, simply because we are all friends and are not trying to impress one another. However, in the course of explaining how you purchased a home or invested in a field, it is fairly common to reveal something about your personal wealth.

There are many school that are known for many things other than being Neat GLO( schools such as mine. I dont brag on it a lot, but it has one of the best Tech Schools in the US.

Mo. is the Third Largest States of Civil Conflict.

Virgina and Tenn. are the first two.
