Conventing

Hey ya'll!

I am super excited about going to convention! I hope that I meet you all! We are going to tear up Chicago Gam style!

WHOA mama! The charge for Convention just showed up on my credit card statement, lol. I was prepared for this, but sheesh, its still painful. ;) :p

AGDLynn 03-15-2004 09:49 PM

Yea, the chapter is going to pay my way!:)

Chicago better watch out...

...because it's official.

Sandy's going to Convention.

I know I was one of the most excited to go (especially after Atlanta) at first, but to be honest I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it -- mainly because of financial reasons. I got jealous everytime someone mentioned that they were going to Chicago!

The other night I had a long talk with my mom and told her how important this was to me...and she knows how much I love Alpha Gam and that I've been saving tips from the bar just to get my butt there.

She finally got back to me last night, and said that if I used whatever I've saved up already, she and my stepdad would take care of the rest...and my airfare. "Consider it an early 25th birthday present, now go make me some dinner!" she said. My birthday falls less than two weeks after Convention. I cried because I was so grateful. I'm going to Convention!

I met up with Katie (former Delta Sigma president) at the mall today so she could send in our registrations together so we can room together.

I know there will be at least 8 Delta Sigma collegians (including my sis-grand) and at least 6 alumnae (I know there will be even more than that!) traveling from Hawaii to Chicago. Other Delta Sigmas living on the mainland will be there also, so my chapter will be well represented for sure. Will Chicago be able to handle the Hawai`i girls???

Some of us are also staying a few extra days after Convention since we have sisters living in the area we can crash with.

I can't wait to meet those of you who are going! :)

AGDLynn 03-27-2004 01:57 AM

YEA!!!!

It wouldn't be right partying without Sandy!!:)

It think that DS puts alot of the mainland chapters to shame if they raised enough $$ to send that many collegians!

I haven't heard how many GTau is sending, lol. They are still working on it, lol.;)

Taualumna 03-27-2004 12:51 PM

YAY Sandy! Can't wait to meet you! :)

greeklawgirl 03-27-2004 03:36 PM

Convention wouldn't be the same without Sandy! ;)

I'm glad you're coming.

Unregistered- 03-27-2004 05:32 PM

hawaiiagd can tell you about how hard these girls worked selling chili fundraiser tickets, washing cars, Jamba Juice mugs/certificates, and waking up early in the morning for all those garage sales. I'm pretty sure more than 8 will go if the funds are plentiful! When we went to Atlanta, we were able to send 4 collegians. It's nice to see the size double for this one!

I won't know how many of us alums are going, and I probably won't know until IRD next month. No matter what, I know Mary Lou, alumnae president, will want us to do something special for y'all.

...Trying to think of things to do for the free afternoon/evening ALREADY! ;)

winnieb 03-30-2004 12:35 AM

For those of you watching airlines prices -- Southwest has some good prices right now!!!
I just booked for $34 each way, from Kansas City!!! Yeah!!!!!

Argh ya'll have it so easy!

Checked the Sunday paper for cheap fares and the cheapest we'll probably get for July from Hawai`i is maybe a little over $500, which is okay considering most online services are quoting over 6.

Super excited because Delta Sigma president, sis-grand, and a bunch of others are staying extra too!

We're always encouraged to mingle out of our own respective chapters/clubs during meals and such. Would it be too much to ask if us GCers could sit together for at least one or two meals? It'll be our own GC AGD Convention!!!

I wouldn't go all the way to Chicago and not hang out with you guys! Count me in. :)

109 days until Convention!

I thought getting together with the GC AGDs was a foregone conclusion, lol.

I actually hoped that I could get a few sisters (GC or not) to rent a limo for the free evening and hop around the city's nightspots! I don't know when I'll have the chance to visit Chicago again, so I want to do it up BIG! :D

Taualumna 03-30-2004 12:46 PM

Count me in for Monday night too! :)

AGDLynn 03-30-2004 06:43 PM

Guess I'll have to go with my roomies!;) :D

About sitting together at 1-2 of the meals...we won't all fit, lol. But we can try.

Unregistered- 03-30-2004 07:54 PM

I wouldn't want Monday night any other way! There are a lot of GC Chicago people and others who live within a driving distance *cough*Wisconsin people*cough* who I'm trying to convince to come hang out with us! :)

I could tell last night that my Delta Sigma collegiate sisters are super ultra excited as well! My bday falls within two weeks or so after convention...but I think it'd be fabulous to celebrate two weeks early with my sisters. ;) :D

agd4rie 03-30-2004 10:08 PM

The limo night sounds like an awesome idea. I would love to be included if you're not already full!
Marie

greeklawgirl 03-30-2004 10:46 PM

I've been browsing around and it looks like we can get limos for 6, 8, 10, or even 24 people!

If you are definitely interested, let me know. Once I know who's interested, I can call around and get a rate for the evening. Maybe I should create a new thread to see who's in?

squirrely girl 03-31-2004 01:37 AM

count me in too!

Trying to book a flight from Honolulu to Chicago on a budget during peak season is as fun as getting your teeth pulled.

But we did it...with the lowest airfare possible. Still, you don't want know how much we paid. We were able to avoid big $$$ just by flying into Chicago Midway instead of O'Hare.

We fly in at 5:30AM in the morning at check-in isn't till 3PM. We'll be starting our shopping early!

I'm glad that's all over....now WE WAIT!

AGDee 04-03-2004 11:32 PM

OTW, I'll be there Friday night and will send you my cell number in case you need some space to crash, relax, change, etc.

Chapter Flag

What happens to the flags after convention? Bring them back next time? I've never been to IHQ but it would be cool to have them permanently in 1 room.

Unregistered- 04-04-2004 06:21 PM

According to the IHQ website, the flags for the following chapters (most of them, if not all, are inactive) have not yet been sponsored:

Eta Chapter
Theta Chapter
Kappa Chapter
Lambda Chapter
Pi Chapter
Chi Chapter
Alpha Zeta Chapter
Alpha Nu Chapter
Alpha Xi Chapter
Alpha Rho Chapter
Alpha Phi Chapter
Alpha Chi Chapter
Alpha Psi Chapter
Beta Theta Chapter
Beta Lambda Chapter
Beta Mu Chapter
Beta Nu Chapter
Beta Pi Chapter
Beta Rho Chapter
Gamma Epsilon Chapter
Gamma Theta Chapter
Gamma Kappa Chapter
Gamma Pi Chapter
Gamma Chi Chapter
Delta Lambda Chapter
Delta Mu Chapter
Epsilon Delta Chapter
Epsilon Theta Chapter
Epsilon Omicron Chapter
Epsilon Rho Chapter
Epsilon Sigma Chapter
Epsilon Tau Chapter
Zeta Lambda Chapter
Zeta Xi Chapter
Zeta Rho Chapter
Zeta Phi Chapter
Zeta Psi Chapter
Theta Alpha Chapter
Theta Gamma Chapter
Theta Theta Chapter
Theta Kappa Chapter
Theta Xi Chapter
Kappa Alpha Chapter

 That's kind of a lot! If you belong to any of these chapters, or know someone who is an alumna to any of these chapters, please help IHQ and pass along this information! It'd be so wonderful to see all our chapters, inactive and active, represented in the Ballroom!

AGDee 04-04-2004 06:49 PM

I'm not sure when that was updated last. The alum club I belong to sponsored Chi although we just mailed the check in about 3 weeks ago.

I was told, by IHQ, the flags would stay at headquarters. They would use them for displays at future conventions and TLC.

Is everyone busy planning your wardrobes for Convention? Two formals, a dress for Initiation, proper attire for the day, etc....not even considering things like shoes and accessories! Yikes!

EEK! Susan, I was trying not to remember all I needed to have for Convention.

AGDee 04-16-2004 06:41 AM

I just have one formal to worry about at this point... thinking I may have to get a pattern and some fabric and just make it myself!

"It started with a dorm room discussion...11 forward-thinking women..."

We did a cute activity at IRD today which prompts me ask, "How much AGD info do you REALLY know?"

In our little IRD keepsake booklets were the individual photos of our 11 Founders. We had to write her name next to her photo. Not only did I *first* have to list all 11 so I could cross them off as I tried to finish, I had to see if I could remember who was who.

Do you know how HARD that was? The sister with the most correct got to take the centerpiece home!

True, some facts are easy to remember--like what day of the week we were founded, the history, and the symbols...but I can't believe that out of 11, I only got 5 of them correct, and yes--one was Emily Helen Butterfield!

So let this be a lesson to all Centennial Conventioneers. If you still have it and if you can find it, dig out your old Frat Ed/NM booklets! You never know what they'll ask at Convention!

DeltaBetaAGD 04-19-2004 12:59 PM

One of my goals while in Chicago... to see a Cubs game! I am sure I am not the only one. So I thought I would post what I found... there is a game on the day we have the afternoon and evening off. :D

DAMMIT!

Are there any more games following Convention? I'm not leaving Chicago without at least a baseball cap!

AGDLynn 04-21-2004 11:42 AM

Hmm..."formal or after five"...so HOW formal should formal be? lol

I was just wondering cause I don't want to spend a lot on a really formal dress that I'll only wear once....but then again, maybe I'll pop into the chapter's formal next fall and/or spring.;)

I don't think it's going to be formal-formal if they also said "after five", which I interpret as anything that isn't businesswear or casual. Something you'd wear to a nice dinner would probably be fine.

AGDLynn 04-21-2004 03:44 PM

Thanks! Side note...I did buy a really cute shirt to wear on my day off today. Hard to describe without it sounding wierd...multi-colored blocks with nubby little pill like things sticking out, lol. "Made in Guatamela";)

You'd be surprised as to how frilly and formal some of these ladies get! In Atlanta I saw some sisters who looked as if they were going to see the Queen!

Good thing I have 83092348712387 dresses to recycle from past formals. One can never go wrong with a long and strappy black cocktail dress!

AGDAlum 04-23-2004 07:29 AM

I have not given a single thought to what I will wear, BUT (drum roll) I have finally SENT IN MY REGISTRATION!

Missed the 3/1 earlybird, realized last week that if I didn't get it in by 5/1 I'd have to pay more. I've registered for Sat., Sun., and Tues. Two CNWSACs are getting a room for Sat. and Sun. and I'm staying with them. On Tues. I'm just going down early and back late.

My dithering was because I couldn't decide to register for full days or for meals only. I am not active in the alum club or on any committees so going to workshops isn't really important. I am, however, interested in Fraternity business and I don't want to miss the centennial pomp and ceremony. And I will be on the agenda at the Opening General Session so I'd better be registered! (Lynn knows why!)

Note that I am skipping Monday for the Convention but that doesn't mean I'm unavailable. Museums, parks, Chicago Botanic Garden--I can guide, or advise.

You will see sisters dressed to the nines and others dressed more casually. The goal is not to go broke for Convention! Wear what you feel is appropriate for each event based upon what is the recommended attire and have a great time!

DeltaBetaAGD 04-23-2004 01:55 PM

I am wearing a formal dress that I have had and LOVE! I like to be overdressed with the more mature ladies. :D

AGDLynn 04-23-2004 09:03 PM

Cell phone and Internet

My contract is up in June and I've been thinking about getting another one. I will probably have my web reactivated. Figured that would be the quickest way to tell people what room I am in, lol:D
