Lady Pi Phi 05-01-2003 05:24 PM

I can't wait to get my next tattoo (it'll be # 3). I think I'm going to go with 2 friends of mine.

Anyway, I'm looking for ideas. I want to make sure it's something I can live with and has a special meaning for me.

I had the angel idea yesterday as something to represent my sorority, but I thought that it didn't really go with the rest of the ones on my body. I thought about getting the Chinese/Japanese/Kanji (obviosuly not all 3) symbol for either sister/sisterhood or angel.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good websites where I can find a picture of this symbol?

SATX*APhi 05-01-2003 05:58 PM

I looked for the symbols online, but couldn't find anything. Sorry.

Lady Pi Phi 05-02-2003 01:07 AM

that's okay. I'm still looking. I found one for Angel. The symbol is cool, but I don't lie the way this artists drew it so I'm trying to find a better one

FiReKraCkEr 05-02-2003 01:10 AM

I think I'm going to be getting a shamrock or a four leaf clover somewhere...don't know where yet:)

Lady Pi Phi 05-02-2003 01:43 AM

I want to get mine as soon as I get paid, and I want to get it on the inside of my left ankle. I just need to find a pic

KillarneyRose 05-02-2003 10:55 AM

I really, really want another one but I'm trying so hard to be good since my husband hates them :(

He's not the one getting it. ;)

KillarneyRose 05-02-2003 01:31 PM

Exactly! You'd think it was HIS body from the way he's acting

Lady Pi Phi 05-06-2003 11:11 AM

ah ha!!! I have finally decided what my third tattoo will be. I am so excited. I haved decided to to get out sorority flower (the wine carnation) and beside it the kanji symbol for friends. I'm going to get it done on the ankle. All I need to know is some money. Just waiting till I get paid which should be very soon (I hope). I'll post pics of all my tattoos when I get the third one done.

FiReKraCkEr 05-06-2003 11:23 AM

Will be gettin my four leaf clover in a couple of weeks! I don't know where to put it though...thinkink of my hip or foot.

I am not looking forward to it, I remember the pain from my last tattoo...:shudders: However, this one won't be huge.

Lots of people seem to have terribly (sp?) painful experiences when getting tattoos. I mean don't get me wrong, they hurt, but I just don't think they hurt that much. I got one done on my spine, it hurt but I wasn't in extreme pain. I have one on my leg and it certainly didn't hurt has much as my back. I guess maybe I have a higer tolernce for pain, but I don't think so. It just didn't hurt me that much.

amycat412 05-06-2003 01:28 PM

I agree Lady Pi Phi-- Mine didn't hurt too much. Was more annoying that anything. And I do not have a high tolerence for pain.

What amy said. Seriously it's like annoying to the point like when the hell is this over. One of mine took four hours and it was pretty much numb by the end, but you can't really move or anything.

FiReKraCkEr 05-06-2003 03:06 PM

My tatoo is about 5inches long and 3 inches wide, and its on my lower back. It took 3 hours and the guy who did it outlined over and over again. It also has a lot of small details. I think it was worth it though. I have never seen anyone with my tattoo. However, I did see a huge poster of it at Hot Topis and nearly pissed in my pants.

I wouldn't say it was the worse pain I ever felt......I would think getting certain body parts hurt more...

I agree.

Where can I find Japanese/Chinese symbols for words online? I really want to get "Honor, Beauty, Truth" tattooed on my lower back with a little design around it. I would hate to think that I would get the symbols wrong and end up with "Pushpin, coffeemug, toenail" on my back!

OMG! That sounds so awesome! I never thought about getting any KD related tattoos...but I did consider a ladybug, which is our local mascot.

I say go to the tattoo artist, I'm sure they will have a book/dictionary that has all the words in them.

Good luck with the TAT! :)

I highly suggest that you DO NOT use any online translation tools to find the symbols that you want. My husbands family is Japanese and his cousin got a tattoo on her back that she thought was Japanese for something...I forget what she wanted it to say. Anyway, she was so excited that she went and showed my husbands grandma (who is 100% Japanese) and come to find out that her tattoo meant absolutely nothing! Please do extensive research before getting anything done!!

pinkey08 05-20-2003 04:09 PM

I am getting a frog or a little lizard on my foot.

When I got my Chinese character tattoo, I tried to find the symbol online but couldn't find it anywhere. Looking back, that's probably a good thing, because like AOX81 says, you really don't know how reliable those things are. I ended up calling a guy from the Chinatown chamber of commerce, who put me in touch with another guy who does calligraphy, and he wrote the character out for me a few different times, and then I picked the one that I liked and the EXACT copy of it is now on my arm. :)

That being said, I would be willing to bet that most tattoo places have the Chinese and Japanese symbols for honor, beauty and truth, since those are probably all relatively popular words.

BTW, I think that is an *awesome* idea for a tattoo!

I definitely agree! Yay for tattoos! :)

ChiOJenn78 05-20-2003 05:40 PM

Ohhh, I should not have read this thread-I am soo trying to make myself wait and not run out right now and get tatoos #4 and#5!! # 4 is going to be " HOOK 'EM '03"-cos I just graduated
#5 is going to be a bracelet design I saw from James Avery...I'm taking the pic into the parlor and am going to have them enlarge the design, and I'm getting it on the back of my neck...but I have to wait 4 more months until after I get married....wouldn't be good with a strapless dress(of course tat #3 will be seen anyhoo)..but reading this thread really makes me want them NOW!!:p

KerriMarie 05-21-2003 02:26 AM

I have one... and I looooooooooove it.

It's a Celtic shooting star, sorta low on my right hip. I got it almost 2 years ago, and most of my friends still don't know about it - and my dad will NEVER find out (he'll kill me... seriously, dead Kerri if he ever finds out) and my mom just found out like two weeks ago, and only because I was wearing stupid pants that didn't fit and I was twisted around funny in the car.

I had wanted a star tat since like seventh grade, and then in tenth grade I decided it would be a shooting star. A friend at camp the summer between sophomore and junior year of college asked if I wanted to go the Monday after camp when a bunch of people were getting tats - she was mostly joking when she asked me, since it's SO out of character for me to actually get one. But that night, I took a group of campers star-gazing, and we saw SIX shooting stars - it was a sign!

Anyways, I ended up going to the place where my best friend got her tat, and we had the same artist. My tattoo is a black outline, with blue fading into purple, the star is a little smaller than a quarter and then it has three lines shooting out from it. It's low enough on my hip that my bikini normally covers it, and my pants normally do unless I'm wearing pants that are too big for me.

I want another one, a fleur-de-lis low on my left hip, but I don't think I'll do it - I don't want it the way I had to have my star.

AOX81 05-21-2003 08:32 AM

I want to get another one and I have a couple designs picked out. Now I just have to talk to my husband about it because he hates tattoos!! He was extremely pissed when I got my first one!

The symbol I have (Hope) was not on the wall of the [parlor so we had to look it up. The place I went to had a dictionary of kanji (the characters) so we found it pretty easily. If you don't know anyone who could translate it for you, I'm sure the parlor has a dictionary for just that reason.

Lady Pi Phi 05-22-2003 11:02 AM

Oh I think I might be getting may tattoo this saturday. I am very excitied!!

lindsay_iu 05-22-2003 01:55 PM

I got my first (possibly only) tattoo last night! It's a tiny star, about nickle or dime size, on my right hip. Because I'm crazy like that, it's in Green Bay Packers green and gold. Very cute.

krystle 05-22-2003 02:29 PM

I think I've decided what I want for my tattoos..but I'm not really sure.

I want a rose, but not because its like "popular" for a girl to get or because it has to do with Phi Sig...Its my last name. Ha. Its nice having a name you can draw out. And then a butterfly, another cliche I know..but I've been known as a social butterfly with all my friends..so maybe I can tie that in with the rose...

If I get a phi sig related one, i want it to be "Aspire, Act, Acheive" in kanji...somewhere...not sure where.

SATX*APhi 05-22-2003 03:54 PM

Lady Pi Phi -- you will have to let us know if you get it after all!!

lindsay_iu -- sounds cute!

Lady Pi Phi 05-27-2003 08:55 PM

Guess what?

Guess what everybody?

I finally did it. I got my tattoo today. I went after work to get it done. I love it. I had to go by myself, so I was a little uneasy, but the place I got it done was great.

I got Pi Phi's flower, the wine carnation and beside it I got the kanji symbol for friend. It's on the inside of my left ankle.

As soon as I get some pictures I'll post for all to see.
I am so excited. My ankle is still stinging as we speak. I actually just got home.

Yippeee for me!

AUDeltaGam 05-27-2003 09:16 PM

Yay! Congratulations! Your tattoo sounds really pretty!

I have been thinking about getting a little anchor tattoo, so we'll see...;)

FAB*SpiceySpice 05-27-2003 11:01 PM

I am getting my next tattoo on June 11 with a couple of my sisters. We're all getting three little pink stars in the way they are on our badge. I am so excited!!! I'm going to get it on my right foot, once I get it I'll try and post a picture. :D

valkyrie 05-27-2003 11:01 PM

Congratulations, Lady Pi Phi! I can't wait to see pictures!! :)

SATX*APhi 05-28-2003 12:34 PM

Woo hoo!! I want to see!! :D

That sounds so cute, SpiceySpice! Where on your foot are you getting them?

ADPi~Ally 05-28-2003 07:57 PM

About 5-10 of my sisters have "sisterhood" in a chinese symbol thing. It is very cute. They have on their foot, or back, or other places.
If I were to get a tat, it would either be a violet, lion or dolphin on either the right or left side of my lower back. right where waistband of jeans sit.

I am thinking somewhere closer to my toes, like right above where the strap of my flip flop hits. And it will be small enough that it can be covered with a band-aid if necessary. I can't wait!!! Whooo!! :D

MoxieGrrl 05-29-2003 05:53 PM

I finally went and got my tattoo reworked!!!

When I graduated from high school, I got a celtic symbol on my hip. Unfortunately, the tattoo artist was not good, and I have had a slightly mottled purple and black blob on my hip. Yeah, it sucked, and I never cared.....but now I have a fiance ;)

My new tattoo man took one look at it and was filled with inspiration. (I had no preferences, I just wanted it to look cool) He did this awesome abstract design in purples, blues, yellows, & greens. It looks soooooooo good! (Or it will once it is done shedding! LOL)

Next paycheck...I'm getting another one.

And I will have pics. :)

KillarneyRose 05-29-2003 07:03 PM

I am pretty sure I am going to get a thin one around my left wrist. When it's not "appropriate" for it to be seen, I can wear a watch or bracelet to cover it.
