Bids being opened now.
List released about 12 noon from what I understand.

Is that quota freshman or overall? If it's overall, do you know what the freshman quota is?

AnchorAlumna 08-17-2013 11:15 AM

Overall.
Looks like 10 (more or less) underclassmen. Rest freshmen.
I'm not a panhellenic official or even in Tuscaloosa.
Just guaging from reports.

catfan 08-17-2013 11:16 AM

My daughter texted quota 113 to me. That might be freshman, but I don't know for sure.

.

If I read irishpipes thread correctly, quota has gone from 80 in 2011 to 120 this year. Is that right? Oh my!

That's about right...variations for every group, as you know.

That is correct!
I'll try to find that chart that shows the growth.

Gamma Phi got 150 new members!

Football Fan 08-17-2013 11:34 AM

Possible Quota......

A text was sent to me quota was 110. Is there a quota per chapter this year due to huge number of pnms?

Varies for each chapter...not a hard and fast number but a range. Some will take more, some less, depending on if they're at total or not (as always) but there are quota additions (I think) so that almost everyone who attended at least one pref, "maximizing their options," is placed.

pinapple 08-17-2013 11:40 AM

Quota Addiions

Can someone give me their opinion on QAs? I have heard some advisors say it makes a chapter look weak, some say it makes a chapter look strong. Since in my experience there is no hard and fast rule on what girls go where when Panhellenic is scrambling to place girls who maximized their options.

AnchorAlumna 08-17-2013 11:45 AM

Under the old recruitment method, it tended to make the strong ones stronger and further weaken the weaker ones.
But with the new method, it does what it was meant to do - place as many PNMs as possible.
Result - stronger chapters for everybody.
IMHO.

I see it that way too!

HQWest 08-17-2013 11:55 AM

QAs just mean that they did well at prefs. Since it is to help place all the PNM, a several of chapters will get a few each

happilyanchored 08-17-2013 12:14 PM

For the first time, I know some people from my tiny northern town who are rushing at UA! I really want to see the bid list to see where/if they pledged. Where will it be posted?

really? I have never heard of this. Usually there is a quota range leading up to them setting quota. Once quota is set is is a hard number for every one except for the quota additions. Usually it doesn't matter it they are at total or not. Is this just an Alabama thing?

Well, at the least it has been posted in the news section of the www.ua.edu/ university home page sometime every Monday after bid day for quite awhile.

Thank you so much! I'm not really friends with either of them so I can't check out their Facebooks, but my high school rarely sends people to UA so I'm really curious.

No no...roughly a guess on my part. I'm not there.
Lots of variations, though, in how many each group takes. Or gets.

Some tweets:

"The earliest you will ever see a guy awake is on alabama football game days and bid day"

"Bid day. The most important event at the University of Alabama. Second to the national championship of course."

"Bid day in Alabama is like a national holiday"

"At Alabama everyone participates in bid day, even people from other schools."

"The two most important things at Alabama happen in Bryant-Denny Stadium; Football and Bid Day."

ladybug12 08-17-2013 02:27 PM

Wow!! If that first number is correct, that's nearly double what the freshman quota was at Alabama just ten years ago and well more than double what it was the year before that!!
