This might sound a little ignorant. But what exactly are recs? Who can give them out? Thanks :) no greeks in my family, first one rushing in the spring.

Lots of Love!

Lots of Love!

Rec is short for recommendation or reference form. Alumnae members of the individual sororities can complete them and submit them on your behalf to the chapter or reference chairwoman for their own sorority at your campus. Each sorority has its own official form that can only be completed and submitted by a member. Some sororities also allow collegiate members at other campuses to submit them. Collegians at your school cannot complete them, so do not ask any sorority members you meet this semester to complete a rec for you for their own chapter.

There are many "stickied" threads on this topic under the sorority recruitment forum, but you should start contacting women you know now so that you have time to find willing alumnae from each group. Recs may be expected at some campuses more than others, and they may be necessary for some sororities and not for others. They always help you stand out from the crowd and help the chapters learn more about you before recruitment starts.

Thanks so much girl!

ComradesTrue 09-24-2012 09:59 AM

My Ole Miss rec crew:
1 ChiO
1 AOII
1 Theta :D

They all look so happy in their bid day photos.

And....this should complete my fall recruitment madness.

No Matter the Letter...

So, I'm going to share this in THIS thread. Today, I woke up to a nasty message on my FB wall from a "friend" who used to be in the military with me. She is still friends with a former "mutual friend" who I no longer speak to. Any way, there is something major going on at my alma mater this weekend (with students at my alma mater). I mentioned in a post that I wish them all luck! I am a proud graduate of my university and a proud member of my organization. This "friend" posted something really negative about how I was pathetic for still being interested in my sorority and that I need to get over it and grow up. She added a few curse words to her nasty statement (trashy). She did not attend a 4-year institution with Greek life. Needless to say, my feelings were actually hurt and it made me question whether or not my commitment to my organization was really pathetic or if it was good to support my sisters (and anyone else who IS Greek). After coming to this website and reading stories of sisterhood, talking to my own sisters, and seeing all the great things that Greek women accomplish, I can say that I would not change my feelings (or posts about the pride in my organization for supporting worthy causes).

This thread is a great example of how women of all ages truly find excitement in seeing other women, who hold some of their same values, succeed in recruitment. I deleted this "friend" (because posting hateful things on someone else's wall just to start stuff with them for no reason is tacky and un-acceptable/ un-needed) and realized that no matter how old I get, I will always be a proud Greek woman. I know you all feel the same way I do. Thank you to all of you Greek women who choose to stay involved in your organizations. You all truly make a difference.

Auburn - KD, KKG

Thanks, Jill. Obviously, I deleted the message (and the friend). I love coming to this thread to see how many lovely ladies went through sorority recruitment and found a home. Seriously though, if Greek life didn't have a positive impact on our lives, GC wouldn't exist--or at least many of the regular posters would not be here posting. I just had to get this out so, thank you for allowing me to do so.

honeychile 10-20-2012 04:55 PM

Okay, I finally have my totals. And they are exciting for someone who's never written this many recs!

ADPi: 3 (2 Pitt, 1 FSU)
DZ: 1 PSU

Sadly, the other two dropped out of rush.

This is the best results I've ever gotten! Usually, it's "I wonder what happened to so-and-so?"

Jill, these are my totals, not including the one I gave you already.

To everyone, I got the loveliest thank you today. I was told by a chapter of my sorority that the PNM I recommended did not go with Alpha Delta Pi but seems to be loving XYZ, where she did accept a bid. It was so nice to hear where a PNM did end up, and that she seems happy! Our loss, but her gain!

FSUZeta 10-28-2012 08:40 AM

Very nice!

maybaby68 10-28-2012 05:33 PM

I'm rushing as a junior in the spring! Soooo excited!!!

misscherrypie 11-08-2012 12:23 PM

Hey, would you please add my updated result to the list: MCPie went Beta Sigma Phi in Nevada.

Thanks

kateee 11-11-2012 03:49 PM

I rushed this fall and I went Chi Omega! If you want to add me to that list :D

Jill1228 11-12-2012 11:43 PM

done :)

honeychile 11-19-2012 01:03 PM

Believe it or not, I've gotten my first request for a rec for Fall Recruitment 2013! Wonderful girl, though, so I have no real problem with it.

carnation 11-19-2012 01:06 PM

Rats! We wanted to be the first if my next one rushes and if she goes to a school with ADPi!;)

I'm sorry? I was so excited to go from the one a year to six to sooooo early!

Will she need a rec? ;)

AGDee 11-19-2012 07:24 PM

Phone call from Hypo:

"I've been meeting a lot of sorority women and I'm thinking this is something I really want to do. Will you pay my dues if I go through recruitment?"

Me: "Of course!"

Hypo is going through recruitment :) She knows some women already and is not ruling out the new colonization at Columbia either. She heard "Everyone says they are going to have a real focus on leadership"

Yeeeeeeehaawwwwwwwwww! Hypo wants to go greek!

She has 2 colleges she likes best. One has an ADPi chapter, one doesn't! We don't know if she'll rush, though. She might at the second school because she has friends in the chapters. I think she has an acquaintance who went AGD at the first school.

AGDee, I know you're thrilled about your daughter!

You must be so happy. Even though my momma said it was my decision and tried to act so cool about it I knew it would break her heart if I didn't rush. We are both so glad I did. Is there an AGD at her school?

AGDee 11-19-2012 11:40 PM

No, there is not an AGD at her school. There are 4 wonderful NPCs with a 5th colonizing though :)

KCG 11-25-2012 11:55 PM

Spring Rush

When is spring rush for at Oklahoma State University and what sororities are participating?

FSUZeta 11-26-2012 09:17 AM

KCG, your best bet would be to contact the Greek Life office at Ok. State for the information you need. Over Christmas break, contact alumnae and secure recs.

purplepink211 11-28-2012 10:14 PM

So exciting to be rushing in January, I am so excited that I'm reading every single post on recruitment! Did everyone like formal recruitment when they went through it for those who rushed in 2012 or in the past?

greekdee 11-30-2012 12:02 AM

It does not appear as though Oklahoma State has Spring Recruitment. Opportunities to pledge are during Fall Formal Recruitment and through informal Continuous Open Recruitment (COR):

http://union.okstate.edu/panhellenic/Recruitment.htm

Here is info on COR. This was as of October 25, but it said Phi Mu, AOII and ADII have openings. Again, this is over a month old, but follow their instructions for signing up for COR.

http://union.okstate.edu/panhellenic/COR.htm

Best of luck to you! :)

My daughter had Bid Day on Friday, but I can't share until she finishes posting her recruitment story (generallygreek). Which I can already tell is going to take longer than she planned...too much going on!

Ha! No Kidding...

As for my spring rec girls:
1 ADPi at WandL (tapping toe impatiently to learn if she is pledge sisters with your daughter, ScienceWoman!)

1 DDD at Ohio State

and, drumroll please.....

1 Kappa Alpha Theta at Depauw! Our Alpha Chapter! I am beyond excited about this one!

I think that wraps it up for me in the 2012-13 academic year. However, I am already starting to get phone calls from PNMs for 2013-14, so the cycle continues!

SWTXBelle 02-04-2013 12:53 PM

2013 - 2014 starts tonight for me - Go Greek with the Katy Alumnae Panhellenic - yay!

Jill1228 02-06-2013 12:05 AM

Caught up :)

BlueHen323 02-08-2013 04:33 PM

My daughter just went through rush last week and she is now a proud pledge for Alpha Phi!
