Or that :o what can I say- I never have to use that one when referring to myself :D

In our pledge manual there are all these pithy statements in the margins that I always imagined were yelling at me - which is good because how could I ever forget "Always alumnus, never alum!"

Congratulations Kaeb!

Silent lurker here. Congratulations to you and Sigma Delta Tau!

So just wanted to post a quick update, since now I'm on the other side of this whole thing. We're currently about 2/3 of the way through our spring informal recruitment, and it's so interesting being on the other side! I now want to go through and replay my informal recruitment to see what happened with this new knowledge! :D

While it really really really totally sucked that I did not have a good experience with formal recruitment, all in all, I'm grateful, because otherwise I would have joined Sig Delt and met all these fantastic women. I love each and every one of my sisters, and I can't wait to meet all of our new mems! I've met a lot of them, but not all of them yet. Being in Sig Delt was such a great decision for me, and I couldn't be happier. There are always girls who are down to do anything, from exploring Hollywood to an impromptu trip to Diddy Riese to watching the Social Network in the cafe to simultaneously loving/criticizing Spider-Man 2 and then watching LAPD bust up a nearby house party with a helicopter during moratorium. Everyone is so supportive and awesome and I love them all. :D Recruitment & the first few weeks of school & everything that goes along with that makes for a super stressful couple weeks, but I'm so glad I'm spending it with my Sig Delts.

adklfsakldfj just a lot of happiness/fulfillment here.

oh, and I'm also a chair this semester... kind of weird! Especially because I remember telling my preffer during house tours (I had her both days) that I'm the kind of girl who will do a job if no one else will, but won't usually run for a position... apparently, that's not the case!

So glad to hear that you are happy and involved, kaeb. Thanks for the update!

I am SO happy for you! You sound like you found the perfect fit. And btw, one of the hallmarks (in this old lady's opinion) of a great sorority/college experience: growing in ways that you never expected (along with the fun)!

And even though it is in Westwood: Diddy Reese rocks!

LOVE Diddy Riese! Well worth the schlep to Westwood!

I'm really happy for you and Sigma Delta Tau...happy that you found your perfect place and happy that Sigma Delta Tau has such a great sister in you!

:)

Bumping this thread from eons ago, but I just wanted to update everyone who followed my story.

I'm now a senior, and trying to soak up every last minute of being in Sigma Delta Tau. Like everyone else who has ever been in a sorority, I'm sure, my experience has been full of ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm actually really glad that I documented my crazy journey through formal recruitment. I went back and re-read it a couple weeks ago, and my perspective is now so colored by my experiences as a sister that it's really cool to go back and see what I thought before I joined.

By the way—that girl who walked me back to my dorm from my first Sig Delt event? She's now my surrogate grand-big and one of my closest sisters.

In retrospect, I now find it funnier than ever that, during formal recruitment, I said, "I don't really see myself taking on a leadership position in a sorority." The semester after I joined, I was elected to a chair position, which I held for three semesters. I was elected to a fourth semester as that chair, but gave it up to serve on the chapter's executive board.

And the ultimate kicker?

For 2013, I was/am Vice President of Formal Recruitment for Sigma Delta Tau and helped our chapter participate in all of formal recruitment for the first time since 2009.

Yay!!! Thank you for coming back and updating us. Can't believe you are a senior.

That makes me feel old. But I'm glad you're doing well and the chapter is too! Did you guys do ok in the more formal format?
