I think I found our bridesmaid dresses

http://terrycosta.com/images/PAODIBHKBOBMHAKF.jpg

It's the one on the left.

Now before the "OMGZ ONE SHOULDER/SWEATHEART NECKLINE/ONLY A SIZE 0 CAN PULL THAT OFF"...

I was pleasantly surprised at how it looked on the two bridesmaids who tried it on. I would have never ever ever EVER pulled this style based on just this pic. And actually, I was skeptical when my cousin showed it to me on the hanger. I ALMOST put in in the reject pile when we were going through the dresses that my bridesmaids were actually going to try on. But then I decided to give it a shot.

The dress looked great on both a size 6 and size 12 ladies. Unfortunately, the 12 was the largest sample size the store had, so my other cousin and MOH (size 14/16) didn't get to try them. We're going to poke around and see if any other stores carry that size. They're also two tall ladies, so things might change completely when I see them in it. I'm a little nervous, but if it looked as great on my cousin and MOH as it did on the other two bridesmaids who tried them on, then these will likely be the winner!

Oh and it will be in purple!

:)

I like the one you chose and I really like the one on the right as well but am not sure if it would look good on anyone other than the girl in the photo. There's a little Zenon/Jetsons to it but it's cute.

But I've seen it. And it does. :p ;)

The more I look at it, though, the more I'm worrying it's going to be a revealing on my MOH, who has not tried it on, and it quite...blessed...up top. I'm sure the rest would look fine in her size, but we may have an issue in the bust area.

Sigh. I just want either A) this dress to look beautiful on everyone so we can order or B) another one (in the right shade purple, because that was a big issue) to just magically find its way to me so we can order it.

lovespink88 12-27-2011 03:35 PM

So that dress is now out--I called another bridal store and said that that designer sends the same sample size/dress to all the stores, so every store will have that same size. I just can't make a decision if I'm not 100% satisfied. CURSES!!

Oh I'm sure the one you chose does. I was unsure about the one on the far right.

Maybe Super KSUViolet can conjure one up for you? :p

So sorry for the hijack, but I just saw the House of Brides reference. If you have the option and aren't yet committed to them, you may want to check the Google reviews... I also have several stories from unrelated friends and family who encountered them. (They all were the one on Golf Road if that makes a difference to your situation.)

Love the purple color!!

lovespink88 12-29-2011 10:35 AM

^^ House of Brides reference.. .?I'm confused! Is that what HoB tells people two? The place that I called that I was referring to is actually a small boutique in Park Ridge.

But the almost dress was from the HoB on Golf, LOL!

It is not likely we will go with that one, we're checking out another place in the 'burbs today.

UofISigKap 12-29-2011 02:47 PM

Oh no, you mentioned HoB earlier in a post, and there are pages upon pages online about the Golf location. I personally know several people who have written letters to the Better Business Bureau. My cousin's wedding got Alfred Angelo dresses prior to this, but here's a fun snapshot for anyone who's curious: http://blog.alfredangelo.com/2011/10...gelo-retailer/

lovespink88 12-29-2011 04:44 PM

^^ OH! Ok I completely forgot I did that. :)

Very interesting link though, thank you for sharing! Luckily I'm not going there...cause I think I found my dresses!!!

I'm sleeping on it this time just to make sure I still like it in the morning before I post it, lol

lovespink88 01-07-2012 12:36 PM

OMG I completely forgot to come back and post!

Here's the final pic:

Except in a darker purple.

All the bridesmaids LOVED it (they were making every case as to why I should pick that one, lol) and I'm happy with it because the sweetheart neckline comes up really high, so I think they will still be church appropriate. Here's what they look like in person:

http://i40.tinypic.com/2zthpia.jpg

(It's the one on the left obviously, the other two were runner ups)

joliebelle 01-07-2012 01:04 PM

My typical problem with sweetheart tops is that they're usually inappropriate (IMO) for a church wedding...but I looove that dress! Who designed the dress?

christiangirl 01-07-2012 06:58 PM

Pretty! Also, do you know what that far right dress' color is called? I LOVE that color but never know the name (except blue/green).

Leslie Anne 01-07-2012 08:42 PM

^^^ Teal?

lovespink88 01-07-2012 09:04 PM

Ah yes, I meant to include that. The dress is by Dessy.

I looked on a couple of different monitors at work, and I think it is more cerulean than teal, with teal being more green than this. I looked at the Dessy site and there are many colors in blue, they could call it oasis, cornflower, ocean blue, or something else entirely.

J. Crew.

Munchkin03 02-26-2012 08:48 PM

I'm going to be a groomsmaid (best lady?) in a wedding in April!

The bridesmaids can pick whatever style in a specific color (it's a dark purple), but I get to wear any dress I want...in black. So excited!

I picked out two dresses from J. Crew (silk taffeta, not the cotton taffeta that's pictured above). Because I wasn't sure what size I wear in J.Crew bridal, if I needed alterations, and because my friends who have worn J.Crew bridesmaid dresses mentioned that I should allow for some loosening during the day, I went to the J.Crew bridal boutique for a fitting. Fortunately, the 6 fit off the rack--so no alterations needed!

KSUViolet06 02-26-2012 09:51 PM

I vote for the Bow Monde dress.

NinjaPoodle 02-26-2012 11:15 PM

I say Mika.

Munchkin03 03-05-2012 11:42 PM

I ended up picking the Mika, for two reasons:

1. The bow on the Bow Monde was a little fussier than I wanted to deal with--and it ended right at my neck. I do prefer it in colors other than black so I'm going to keep my eye on it to buy in another color (maybe yellow or purple).

2. The Mika was on sale, with 30% off on that...so a dress that originally retailed for $250, I managed to buy for $82.75 (after tax and shipping). I'm no cheapskate but I do like a bargain!

It arrived today and I was able to try it on with everything--foundation garments, shoes, and all--I like it! It's a little loose around the waist but that might be good. Now I have about 4 more weeks to go to my "Armed and Dangerous" class...:o ...and it has POCKETS!

Why didn't you lead with that?? LOL You could have stopped there. Clearly, it was the winner. :p

VandalSquirrel 03-06-2012 01:55 AM

No idea what the fabric situation is like, but Target now has bridesmaid dresses available online. They are all $69.99 and come in sizes 2-28W. Some of the reviews aren't positive, but for bridesmaids in different areas they can be returned to a Target store and not have to be special ordered. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that all of the dresses come in the same color selection, so mixing and matching wouldn't be as easy as it could be.

Do you remember Bridesmart (also on Golf Road)? I had to get a dress there a few years back, and before I even got a chance to go there, I came across one of the best yelp reviews of all time.

Sadly, it is now out of business.

My MOH is getting married in August and this is the dress she has picked out for us bridesmaid:

Oh I love the different shoes with the same dress. Wish I could convince FSiL to let us do that. She has us all wearing the same shoe from payless. :( My fat foot does NOT fit into it.

groovypq 04-03-2012 12:23 AM

I would like to just wear all the dresses on this page every day. And the shoes. So much adorableness.
