Talked to daughter about 5:30 - after she had gotten done with class and as she was trying to quickly shovel down food and get ready. She is exhausted already and they haven't started. I'm kind of feeling sorry for the poor PNM who gets her. She's normally pretty good at this - but I can tell her tank's already on empty and she sputtering. Hopefully she'll rise to the occasion.

Telling you anyway: t_witter. Follow UOFSL
They put up pictures and often they link to chapters twitters. Some chapters put up pictures too. Some chapters are private, others... not so much. T_witter stalking vs facebook stalking

^^^Sidenote: I really don't know how schools do the "all PNMs in the same Go Greek/Panhellenic shirt" thing.

Sometimes clothing was the only way I could remember someone (ex: "you know, the one with the purple sweater!") I don't know what I'd do if every single girl was wearing the same top. lol.

Well there are always accessories, hair/eye color, height, etc.

But honestly it does help you focus more on the PNM herself and not just what she was wearing. Ex: The girl with the grandma from Spain or the girl who tripped up the stairs on her first day of high school. More relevant (and personal) information to remember, IMHO.

AXOmom 09-29-2011 03:57 PM

I can see both points. I would think it would be tough since I guess I tend to remember people I meet initially by identifying physical characteristics (Oh, that's the red head who likes to wear those gigantic ear rings, etc.). It hasn't seemed to be a problem for daughter. A night at a time - she can remember who she spoke to and what she thought. By next week, she won't have a clue who she talked to unless their personality really stood out to her (good or bad) or she spoke to them more than once. She'd only remember clothing if it was at the extreme ends of good and bad.

I will say that when she went through rush - she made sure there was some accessory she added to that t-shirt that would stand out (in a good way). Cute earrings, bracelet, sandals type of thing.

The personal stuff is definitely ideal, but it only works if everyone who talked to her found out the same information. Appearance, on the other hand, is evident to everyone (although certainly subject to interpretation :-)).

Accessories can be huge though, especially around Prefs when so many PNMs wear black (or insert color here) dresses. I distinctly remember several of us having a hard time remembering someone until her earrings were brought up- "wait, the girl with those fantastic dangly pink earrings? Oh, I know who you mean!" Accessories can be even more distinct than clothing, albeit usually smaller and therefore more sutble. Usually.

I believe someone mentioned it earlier, but what's with the tank tops popping up in so many pictures? Is that a trend now?

IndianaSigKap 09-29-2011 04:56 PM

Yes, tank tops are trending. I was tailgating a few weeks ago and the college girls were wearing the tank tops and leggings. I was afraid leggings would catch on again....sigh.

Some chapters forbid you from wearing leggings-as-pants with your letters

I think tank tops are wonderful, depending on where your school is. I would be getting a lot more wear out of a tank top than our dark-colored bid day shirts right now, that's for sure.

All those tank tops remind me of the old school "Frankie Says Relax" shirts of the 80s!

Leggings became popular again before these tank tops, at least from what I've observed. I've heard them called "lifeguard tanks" and "crop tops" (even though they're not cropped ). Even if you have a nicely toned body, they are cut to enhance mens' shoulder and chest muscles, which makes you look manly. They are too low cut in front and on the sides for women, which is why they're [hopefully] always worn with something underneath, but I frequently see bra straps hanging out.

We call them "bro tanks" in part for that reason.

PeppyGPhiB 10-12-2011 01:47 PM

I think the tanks are cute, and they make sense in places like Pullman, WA - where WSU is - where it is usually 100+ degrees on bid day.

ADqtPiMel 10-12-2011 08:46 PM

The girls at the campus where I advise call them "frat tanks." I think they're awesome.

My chapter wears lettered shirts on the first night of recruitment. We buy them in bulk for usually about $13-15 per shirt. So, for my chapter it would cost about $1300-1500.

Do you go to the same place where you buy the lettered sweaters?

Yes. Most of the websites that sell greek apparel will do bulk orders. If you want specific companies, I'd be happy to PM you some names.
