I would really like for Matt and Anoop to make the Top12. I don't care for any of those girls, so it doesn't really matter which one goes through. I was surprised Junot and Arianna weren't given wildcard slots...although for Junot, the competition for a guy slot was probably a lot tougher as there were many good ones.

srmom 03-05-2009 10:31 AM

I'm sad that Ju Not didn't get called back.

I'm disgusted that Tatiana got called back over any number of people left on the couch.

Ditto!

I'm not a big fan of the girls they chose - Jasmine being the exception, I like her. But I really liked Felicia Barton, Kristen McNamera, Taylor Vaifanua (all from Group 3), and Jeanine Vailes (from Group 2). I think they were better than the wildcard girls the judges picked - or at least they deserved a second chance.

srmom 03-05-2009 02:06 PM

I wonder how awful it will be for Simon to not be able to say how truly awful Scott sounds to him without sounding like a jerk who is picking on a blind person:rolleyes:

I mean, really, how is he going to get away with saying, "You were terrible. I hated everything, from the song you chose to your wardrobe."

He will be booed more than ever!!!

It will be interesting to see how he tap dances around it, cuz the mediocre singing is going to catch up to Scott and begin to grate on Simon..

Unregistered- 03-05-2009 03:10 PM

I would have been okay if Megan and Jasmine were not called back. Despite their crappy performances, I still like Arianna and Taylor. I thought Felicia should have had one more shot.

I can't believe Ju'Not wasn't picked. That's just wrong.

Methinks the Top 12's going to be very painful to watch. I hate to sound like a total asshole, but Scott's definitely going to throw off the group numbers.

I don't think you are an a$$hole, I've been thinking the same thing. Like I said above, it's going to be tricky, like you can't say anything snarky, or it will seem like you're kicking a puppy.

But, had to post what I read on another board re the group sing - (it's mean, I know) but funny:

Quote:

Maybe they could do a number literally about "singing circles" about someone. Since the stage is in the round, for effect Scott could stand on a turntable and spin slowly around while the others move around him. Or maybe put him at the top of a big Busby-Berkley-style cake and have the others dressed in top hats and tails, descending a ramp. Or if they're gonna lip-synch anyway, just slap a curly wig on his brother (who's shifted from cute to Fire Marshall Bill to cute again) and let Scott sit it out.

Or maybe, as another poster suggested, the producers will finally scrap this embarrassing scrap of cheese and do away with the group numbers. One can hope.
I know, I'm going to hades...

ASTalumna06 03-05-2009 04:40 PM

Personally, I don't think Simon will have a problem criticizing his singing. When the time comes, it will happen. Simon has always told the truth no matter what, and if you ask me, he's the only one who is completely honest with the contestants (and he's correct in his analysis 99.9% of the time).

And yes, PLEASE do away with the group singing. I forget what the song was last night, but I remember it was awful and corny. Get rid of it.

WVU alpha phi 03-05-2009 04:53 PM

I was so nervous Anoop wasn't going to make the wild card round. I'm so glad they called him back, and if he makes the top 12, he's definitely getting a lot of my votes! I wish Ja'Not would've made it, I liked him much better than Jorge. I also thought it was stupid that Jorge rambled off his happiness in Spanish. Yes, you're from PR, but you speak English and it's American Idol, not Latin American Idol. Maybe that's harsh but I'm just not a fan.

I really have no clue who the judges will pick for the top 12, but I'm praying Tatiana doesn't make the cut! I had to fast forward through her ridiculous tears of happiness last night, she's way too annoying.

They decided to make it a Top 13...Matt and Anoop both made it.

That was bad. I had taped it because I wasn't getting home until almost 9. So I watched it on DVR (funny how I still call that "taping"), and was annoyed when it cut out. Don't they know that's how millions of people watch the show?

The BF was PISSED. We didn't get to watch it until late last evening and it just wasn't the same getting the results online. Anoop's a favorite and he was also pulling for Matt Giraud since he's also from Kalamazoo.

BF says that the DVR wouldn't have cut it off if they didn't spend a lot of time on Tatiana's diva moment at the end. UGH!

WVU alpha phi 03-06-2009 04:26 PM

My DVR cut off the final 2 winners as well, I was so mad! I raced to the computer to find out who won. I was only about an hour behind so it still took me about 10 minutes to find out who the final 2 contestants were. I'm so glad Anoop made it!

Not a fan of Megan, last night was only the second time I heard her sing but I just don't see why the judges like her so much.

srmom 03-06-2009 05:42 PM

Because she's current:rolleyes:

In other words, she can't sing, but they can fix that up when they mix her cd. The important thing is she has a pretty face, a quirky look, and an ugly tattoo all down her arm.

She's a marketers dream.

Thetagirl218 03-06-2009 05:49 PM

Thanks for the update!! Stupid FOX...they can extend the show time...grrrr!

I am sooo happy Anoop got in! I love him!

ComradesTrue 03-06-2009 06:14 PM

Did anyone else get the feeling that last night was just a dog and pony show and the the "cast" (Simon's word) had already been chosen beforehand?

It just didn't seem to be how well or bad someone sang... being the "package" was so much more important. Yet, at other times you will hear Simon say "This is a singing competition."

I do think Jasmine is adorable, but she was a far cry from Top 12 material with all of the other contestants this season. Same for Meghan.

100% agree - while I think both of the guys deserved to get through, I really don't think Megan did. Jasmine was okay, but neither was as good or entainting as Anoop or Matt.

Oh, wait...SHE made the top 12 (or rather, 13)???

I TiVoed the show and just now have time to watch it....I did NOT like her performance! It sounded like she was singing through her nose....and I couldn't believe the judges all sang her praises like they did!!

I think Ann Marie and Nick/Norman should have been brought back for the Wild Card round.

kddani 03-10-2009 08:14 PM

Lil Rounds' pants look like high end mom jeans in white. Thank you Simon for recognizing the fashion tragedy that is those pants. So not flattering. I think she has a good voice, but it takes a lot to impress me on AI any more. Michael Jackson is a tough song book to "make your own"

LMAO at the fact that 1-866-IDOLS-13 is a porn line, so the last contestant tonight will have a "special" number.

nittanyalum 03-10-2009 09:10 PM

I feel like that last little girl just shouted at me for 2 minutes.

ETA: Anoop takes on "Beat It!" I love it!

ComradesTrue 03-10-2009 09:15 PM

Hmmm... not sure that "Beat It" and Anoop really go together.

I forgot where I read but someone said that Anoop would be great at a fraternity party or something like that. He's a lot of fun, can impersonate people, but he's not any kind of actual artist. It was the same with My Prerogative. It was fun, he did a good job, but it wasn't his own in any way.

I don't think it was as terrible as the judges are reviewing it.

LOL, no, they don't, but I love that he even tried! Who in god's name really tries to sing "Beat It" for realz? That's right, only the Noop-Dog.

nittanyalum 03-10-2009 09:35 PM

Megan needs to keep showing me her son because it softens me up toward her. Otherwise, so much about her irritates me - her voice, her singing style, her tat sleeve and that weird little dance (you should see my husband mimic it, it's hilarious).

ETA: oh my god, did she "caw" at the end of that song????

ETA2: and I will give to her that she is absolutely gorgeous and the camera loves her

kddani 03-10-2009 09:45 PM

Paula seems to be back on the sauce, she's damn nearly incomprehensive tonight. In the "pre-season" she was pretty clear and made no sense. Now that the real competition has started, she's back to being incoherent and throwing herself at all of the male contestants...

irishpipes 03-10-2009 10:19 PM

Kris Allen - the guy who Simon said should have waited a while before bringing out the wife - is the husband of an AOII. His wife, Katy, was the Recruitment Chair for the new AOII chapter at the University of Arkansas and was also the homecoming queen last year. She didn't look too pleased with Simon's comment.

ZTAngel 03-10-2009 10:26 PM

Matt had me swooning until those falsetto notes at the end. I don't think I really have a favorite from tonight. Nobody was great. I think Michael Jackson songs are really difficult to do. Michael has a really unique sounding voice and his songs are very, very well-known. They picked an artist whose songs the judges and producers say the contestants just shouldn't touch much like Mariah (which they coincidentally did last season). If the producers want to take hypocritical route, they should have a Whitney night this season.

Leslie Anne 03-10-2009 11:32 PM

I missed the show! I'm loving the comments though. So glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Megan.

Wow, I disagree. The first half of tonight's show is just wrapping up here (Anoop is about to sing), and I already think this is the best Idol episode I've seen in a long time. The performances have been really strong tonight I think, especially Danny and the pink haired girl. I didn't like Scott or the oil rig guy as much, but even they weren't terrible. I'll have to see how the rest of the show goes.

PeppyGPhiB 03-11-2009 12:40 AM

OK, the second half is a bummer compared to the first. I'm watching Adam's performance and it's actually scaring me. I feel like I'm watching someone trying to be Queen trying to be Michael Jackson. Freddy M. he's not.

ETA: Simon LOVED that?!

I thought the exact same thing about the first half and the second half. And I really cannot believe Simon liked Adam's performance. I did not enjoy it.

Go AOII! Go ARKANSAS! I thought Simon's comment came off rude when he actually meant it as a compliment. I thought he was saying, "The girls all love you and they are going to be disappointed that you are married. You should have kept that hush, hush so you will get more votes from these lovesick fans."
It looked like the wife thought he meant she was unattractive or something which is not true!

LeslieAGD 03-11-2009 11:23 AM

I liked Danny, Adam, and Matt last night...and surprisingly, Megan. I haven't liked Megan at all up to this point and I actually listened to her whole song last night.

Don't really have a guess as to who is going home.

I'm so glad you mentioned that!! My husband and I nearly died when we heard that! We had to back it up and listen again, it was so funny - CA CAWWW!

I thought overall it was an okay night. But, come on, Michael Jackson songs? How current can you be with decade (or more) old songs, and from such a iconic (forgetting the child molester part) singer.

PeppyGPhiB 03-11-2009 01:39 PM

I thought Michael Jackson was a good choice, because there's such a range of songs to choose from. And I think the kids did a good job with it.

My picks for who's going home tonight: Anoop and Megan.

LeslieAGD 03-11-2009 02:13 PM

So, what do you think about the voting "twist"...? They made it pretty clear that the judges will have the final say, probably SYTYCD-style.
