When I looked at the video it didn't even look as though any secret service were around. Other Iraqis in the crowd had to calm the guy down. And it seemed to have taken them a while to have any effect on him.

Messed up economy??? Didn't the economy take its largest downturn around 9/11? And wasn't that in the first 3 month's of Bush's first term? That falls on Mr. Clinton. 9/11 was planned for years, it didn't happen in 3 months. Actually, 9/11 falls on many presidents before Bush (indluding his father) that failed to pull the trigger when they had Osama Bin Laden in their crosshairs. |
Actually on the education side, No Child Left Behind actually hurt elementary schools that were doing well beforehand.

and in case some of us havent been paying attention: - Drs have begun scaling back their practices because they cannot afford the liability costs or the rising insurance costs..this has been happening since 2004 - Some of US can't afford to go due to rising premiums - Medicare has been a mess for years even with the reforms - Wonder why you see so many homeless people? Check the mental institutions where some of those folks should have been. When insurance runs out or can't afford to prolong their care, there is no place to put them BUT out on the streets. (whole 'nother thread...believe me!) We may have the 'best' healthcare in the world but many of us can't afford it on BOTH sides...patients and providers. |

(both of you are right, however) I have worked in direct patient care for almost 20 years and I have seen many times where people have come to the states to be treated for illnesses first before they have gone to otehr facilities in other parts of the world. But what is interesting is because we teach so many foreign doctors, we should think about how many will go home with their knowledge and open up those comparable facilities to heal those who need it and who knows? Possibly charge even less or comparable prices to get healed. Most certainly would save on a trip and then there is the possibility that they would be more comfortable being treated by one of their own. |

It wouldn't be where it is right now if it didn't decrease in 2001. I can agree with you that Bush hasn't helped the economy. War is always a drain on the economy and it was ultimately his decision to go to war. We would still not be in the greatest economy in history if you take out the effects of 9/11, but it is what it is because of the past. There are a lot of things that contributed to today's economy, and you can't look at the status of today, without looking at the past. |
We get it, DS. You don't like Bush. And because you don't like him, you think it's acceptable for him to be assaulted. You're not going to change anyone's opinion regarding whether or not it's ok to assault a U.S. President by pointing out Bush's shortcomings. You approve of assaults on the POTUS, and most of the rest of us don't. Just leave it at that.
(Go on, get in the last word. You know you want to.) |
Quote:
And while I agree with you on that point, hasn't it been mentioned for a long while that unless the US did things differently, we could have avoided the economic mess that we are in now. There have been warnings since at least 2004 (we can google and see what we come up with) that we were headed in that direction. Kinda like driving a car past several signs saying the bridge is out and wondering why now your car is headed for a rocky bottom. |
Quote:
I agree. I hope it didn't come off like I am the biggest Bush supporter on earth, I just support the the POTUS (unless it can be factually proven that he is no longer worthy of that support). |
Quote:
I wasn't trying to. I dodn't want anyone trying to change mine's which is what everyone else in my eyes, was and is trying to do. To be clear so that you aren't putting words in my mouth. I don't approve of assaults on the POTUS especially when you are doing your job, but BUSH, the flesh and blood human who failed in a leadership position of POTUS, earned that shoe. You want respect, respect is earned. So yeah, in that aspect, IMO Bush had it coming. Now we are done. |

This is all illogical and does not follow, and you contradict yourself in this very post. Simply put, you're wrong, and not in the "I disagree with your opinion" sense - in the "this is malarkey tripe" sense. See how easy appeals to authority are? Difference is, mine are right. See how easy that was too? |

More un American comments

Classic and so well deserved. The Bushwacker dodging and ducking the truth like he's done for the last eight years. George Bush has been and will go down in history as an insult to the American Presidency. Every Republican and "born againer" alive who voted for him should feel ashamed and embarrassed for allowing this sorry excuse for a President the opportunity to turn our country into an international and domestic "train wreck". Recommend: (47)(16)[Report Abuse] highside12/15/2008 6:29:56 AM Watching the interview with The Chimp after the incident was appalling; "I don't know what his beef was." Gee genius, maybe it had something to do with the 10s of thousands of dead Iraqis your excellent little war has killed? Perhaps something to do with the complete disaster your post war policies made of his country. What a repulsive human being our president is. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...MNV514O50U.DTL and some from http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...dent-bush.html I just wish the guy had better aim. Oh well at least he had a chance to do what I am sure many many others wish they could do. George W. Bush - The worst leader of any country in the history of the world. Ever. Posted by: Tom | Dec 14, 2008 1:23:25 PM honoring the troops?... please, the only way bush can honestly honor our troups would be to bring them home and apologize and take responsibility for the deaths and injuries caused to tens of thousands of humans... what a war criminal... can we press charges against him and his administration yet? Posted by: earthisnotflat | Dec 14, 2008 1:24:10 PM Posted by: Oliver | Dec 14, 2008 1:31:53 PM Too bad the shoe hurler missed...I think that was the reason they carted him away. Man, and after also his lessons... Seriously though, how long has it been since you've witnessed a president that was so reviled by the public. I've lived through 12 president administrations and none received, nor deserved, the level of public animosity directed at bush. In that, he's in a class by himself. Paul, Bush wasn't honoring the troops. He is trying to save his 'legacy', put a little shine on it. He'd spend his time more productively trying to put shine on a manure pile. He is one of history's worst leaders, and most certainly the worst president this country has seen. Hopefully, we'll never experience another this bad. When will the Bush apologists quit making excuses for this lying, self delusional piece of work? Posted by: Huh | Dec 14, 2008 2:34:42 PM Our pseudo-president, who was too cowardly to honestly serve his country in uniform when he was called, has caused the suffering and deaths of untold thousands. He is justifiably hated by all moral people, except, of course by his neo-con clique of bullies and Evangelical hypocrites. If justice prevailed, he would have been arrested in Iraq and prosecuted for crimes against humanity. Posted by: comtek | Dec 14, 2008 2:36:22 PM Whoever threw it - may God or Allah bless you....! Just sorry you missed the war criminal! Posted by: Snoop | Dec 14, 2008 2:37:23 PM ....looks like I am not the only 'nut' that feels that way about the shoe thrown 'round the world... http://www.antoranz.net/CURIOSA/ZBIO...05078_Bush.jpg Bush Doormat in Baghdad Hotel Dismantled Created: 4/11/2003 10:34:52 AM Updated: 4/11/2003 10:37:02 AM BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- There was a bit of unfinished business left over in Baghdad from the 1991 Gulf War. The U.S. Army has taken care of it. At the Al-Rashid Hotel, President Bush the elder - father of the current American chief executive who ordered this year's invasion of Iraq - is a doormat no more. U.S. soldiers visited the battered Al-Rashid on Thursday night wielding hammers and chisels, and dug out the intricate tile mosaic of the former president that was used for years as a state-sponsored insult. In its place, they laid a portrait of Saddam Hussein. "Everybody walked over it and wiped their feet on it," Lt. Col. Rick Schwartz, the battalion commander said. He left the Saddam portrait behind, on the ground for future use. Taking shoes to the face is not exactly a compliment in any culture, but in the Arab world it's a particular slam. Pointing the soles of one's feet at someone is a grave insult. So the notion of thousands of Iraqi feet trudging over the patrician features of George Herbert Walker Bush was particularly appealing to Saddam's regime, humiliated by Bush during the 1991 Gulf War to free Kuwait from Iraqi invaders. Saddam persoanlly picked the Al-Rashid for the insult to Bush senior. The hotel was heavily trafficked by foreign guests and the base of operations for journalists during the 1991 war - and the place where, on the night of the first American airstrike in January 1991, Arab guests huddled in the basement and shouted "Death to Bush." The mosaic, an unflattering portrait of Bush with his teeth bared in a scowl, was installed later in 1991 right in the Al-Rashid's doorway complete with a caption in Arabic and English: "Bush is criminal." The location made it almost impossible to avoid. And for years, it worked. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/m...6&provider=top Interesting that an image of Hussein replaced it. Wonder if that will change too if and when we leave. |

Seriously though - the fact that some posters agree with you doesn't make the opinion more palatable to the rest of us. Read some of the garbage that is posted in the comments sections of sites ranging from espn.com to any number of newspapers. No one is saying you're alone in your opinion, DS; they're just saying that they disagree, no matter how many people tend to share your sentiments. I'll give you this - you've managed to unite a group of people who, in some cases, have widely divergent political opinions. I think you've done more in this thread to unite liberals and conservatives than anyone else on GC. |
Quote:
Come on, when have you known me to flip on a topic just to please others? When have you known me to try to be 'palatable' to others? That's not what I do. I expressed my opinion on this matter, caught flak and to a certain point, I think I may have said some things that others may not have willingly voiced because of the reactions involved. I guess that makes me a bad person, eh? Because I express my disdain makes me wrong? No. Wrong is keeping silent on something I know I strongly for or against. Wrong is following along with the 'rah rah' chorus when I know I feel otherwise. Wrong is changing my mind just because I listen to the influence of others and I want to look 'cool' or 'right' in their eyes. If some of you hate what was said or hate me for what I said, that's cool, I promise you I won't change and I can promise you that more will come and not just from me but from anyone that you may have met in life that may be opposed to how you feel on a particular topic. The only thing that anyone can do when faced with that is to take it in and learn from it and store it for future use. |
