After seeing many of the pictures from each of the chapters, this girl's pose was probably planned. When I have time, I'll scan others from 1971.

I scanned a load of pictures from the 1939-1940 UCLA yearbook. The two Greek Life division pages are below, and the link at the bottom will take you to a place where you can access each sorority's individual page, including some groups that no longer exist or were absorbed by other nationals and a Japanese-American sorority that still exists at UCLA today.

love it!

What I find interesting about the UCLA pictures are the number of sororities at the time that had no inactive chapters.

The other thing that struck me was how in the descriptions of the various national sororities they mentioned the north/south divide. Like Chi Omega was described as a sorority that was founded to bridge the north/south divide, and ZTA was described as founded to fulfill the need for more sororities in the south. I thought that was interesting. |
I too noticed that about Chi Omega.
I can't remember which one I read this passage, but they were talking about the sorority doing work in the "back-woods of Kentucky" I have about 30 year books dating back to 1911 from Ohio State. In the 20s, they started to list passeges similar to what was found at UCLA. Even though I never saw the chapters pictured in long gowns, between about 55 and 65, crested blazers were all the rage in many chapters. |

The DU Best Legs Contest - 1983 - Ohio State (note: girls wearing hose with shorts) http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...stLegs1983.jpg |
Oh my goodness, those shorts are wild! And the nylons!
I remember having a pair of shorts like the girl second from the left is wearing. Ahhh...the late 70s/early 80s! |
those shorts that the girl second from the left is wearing is kinda like those Nike running shorts that are so popular on campuses now.

Have you ever looked at a picture of somebody else, and done a double take, because it looked so much like you at that time? Wow!

Here's some appropriate Theme Music, courtesy of YouTube! Well, especially for the 1940's pictures.

KKG Retro
I just scanned a TON of old Kappa Kappa Gamma pictures for recruitment! They're from History 2000: Kappa Kappa Gamma Through the Years.
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...33/60shair.jpg Fraternity President Louise Little Barbeck (Southern Methodist) with her daughters (who attended Texas Christian and Southern Methodist) I love the hair and glasses! http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...l33/bidday.jpg Beta Tau chapter at Syracuse, 1979 This is one of my favorites - they're so excited! http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/collage2.jpg Convention 1966 http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...collage4_2.jpg I'm not sure what's going on here, but it's not secret - it's published in a Kappa coffee table book from Nationals. I also can't find a chapter, event or date... looks like 1920's, though? http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/collage5.jpg Delta Iota at Louisiana State, 1950's So cute! Some kind of camping trip or retreat. http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...3/confused.jpg Omega chapter at Kansas, 1894 http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...l33/donkey.jpg 1933 Grand Council at Colorado Springs, CO I have no idea what's going on with the donkeys! http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...l33/frilly.jpg Convention 1904 I want outfits like these! http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...33/hugekey.jpg Xi chapter at Adrian in 1884 This picture cracks me up. Where did they get that huge key? And why is the one girl sticking her head through it - and looking so serious?? http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/q...wl33/music.jpg Epsilon Chapter at Illinois Wesleyan, 1895 Musicians? Tennis players? Scholars? All of the above! |

Epsilon Chapter at Illinois Wesleyan, 1895 Musicians? Tennis players? Scholars? All of the above![/quote] My favorite is the woman in the center holding the banana, and the other woman who is looking like she's going to take a bite! |
Quote:
Maybe they were showing their hobbies? There are a couple holding books, one holding flowers... Or, judging from their caps, they're graduates. Maybe each item they're holding signifies their major, and the one holding the banana majored in botany? ;) PS: The one holding flowers is not sitting like a lady! |

Ahaha thanks for posting those, littleowl! I have that book, but I hadn't looked at those pictures that carefully. I remember the giant key one. Wtf?
The banana/tennis/juggling picture is HILARIOUS! WHaaaaat? |
Do you ever try to imagine what these young ladies would look like today at that age?
