That kind of resembles the new Camero Concept.

That's kind of cool. I also like the name. If I could, I would go into car-naming.. that has to be a fun job. :p

The interesting flip side to the news release was that The Hummer brand
may be shut down or sold off.

Yes, and they are closing some truck plants as well.

The Albertsons by my house is at $3.82, yet the Albertsons by the unversity (which is probably 10 miles away) is at $3.77.

Sams is still the cheapest though, its in the low $3.70's.

AlethiaSi 06-04-2008 04:30 PM

its up to 4.31 for regular by my house, its a little cheaper in the bronx...
i spent my last 6 dollars on gas today and the gas light didnt even go off... :(

Bad news for anyone thinking of buying a hybrid any time soon:
Battery shortage hurts hybrid sales

With gasoline at $4 a gallon, the market is screaming for more hybrids. But sales of hybrids dropped significantly in May.

Battery shortages are crimping supplies of the Ford Escape Hybrid and Toyota Prius, two of the top-selling hybrids.

Prius sales dropped 37.5 percent in May to 15,011 compared with May 2007. Combined sales of the Escape Hybrid and its stablemate, the Mercury Mariner Hybrid, dropped 26.0 percent to 2,378 last month.

General Motors' big SUV hybrids are not selling well because of their high prices and limited fuel savings.............................

I paid $4.05 yesterday and, after I left the pump I had this nagging feeling like someone reached into my pocket and ripped me off!!!!!!

This is an interesting story from LA Times:
Soaring costs are squeezing gas station owners too

Dealers say fuel and other expenses are rising so rapidly that they can't keep up.

Andre van der Valk hasn't been paid in six months.

He has a job, though, as owner of four service stations in Southern California. He hasn't taken a salary this year so he can pour all his money into buying fuel for his stations.
Despite the jaw-dropping prices at the pump -- they jumped 19 cents a gallon in California to $4.43 in the last week and averaged more than $4 a gallon nationwide for the first time, the Energy Department said Monday -- service station owners aren't making the killing that motorists assume.

That's because credit card fees, the price of tanker-loads of fuel and other costs are rising so rapidly that station owners haven't been able to keep pace despite the record prices they're charging.

"People see $4 gas, and they think these retailers are making a fortune," said Ben Brockwell, a director at Oil Price Information Service, which tracks fuel prices. "The reality is these guys are being stressed to the limit."...............................

I paid $3.99 yesterday. That rounds up to $4 so, yes, I have paid $4 a gallon for gas. My credit card receipt brought tears to my eyes.

nate2512 06-10-2008 05:38 PM

The pump cut me off at $75 at $3.990, not even 3/4 tank.

christiangirl 06-11-2008 02:20 AM

Gas was did jump from $3.89 to $4.29 last week, but it's back down to $3.95. I'm going to need a fill up soon so I'm just trying to jump on it at the right time...I feel like I'm rocking back and forth on my toes, playing double dutch.

I was on empty on Saturday, so I had to go to the nearest gas station...and pay $4.09. Needless to say I put in just enough to get me to my destination.

I was just coming to this thread to post the same. The pumps around here also cut off at $75 for credit card sales at the pump- so I am spending $75 twice a week for gas now, but have not had a truly full tank in a couple of weeks.

jon1856- Good call posting that article about station owners. They are really getting screwed over in all of this. In addition to the cost increases you reference, demand is actually going down for gas- so they are also making less revenue on a volume basis.

Producers and oilfield services are of course making a killing, but quite a few business lines in the oil/gas industry do not fare well when prices get like this.

Thanks.
But more importantly is just how low one lets their gas tank get.
For at least two reasons, you should not let it get down to "Zero":
1) There will always be a small amount of dirt and sediments in ones tank.
The lower it gets, more will get pulled into engine.
When you have a PM done on car, ask the mechanic to check your gas filter when he checks your air filter.
2) Unlike gas station tanks, which float, car's tanks can form water condensation. And the lower you get in tank, the better the chance of the water on top will get into engine.
