I really liked Adam's? (the 3rd judge) critiques. They were very instructive without being mean (like Mia can be sometime) or screechy (like Mary). I wish we'd see more of him, he seems like a natural teacher. Although he did get a little long winded, he seemed to really want to help the kids. |
My favorite dances of the night:
Chelsie H. & Mark Katee & Joshua My bottom 3 predictions: 1. Comfort & Chris 2. Chelsea T. & Thayne 3. Jessica & Will (as much as I hate to put Will there, I think Jess is going to put him there) Here's hoping Chris finally goes. |
I was a surprised that Jessica and Will escaped the bottom three tonight...my only guess is that people were voting hardcore for Will.
I think the judges knew they had to split the pairings and give two contestants a chance with new partners. As much as I was not a fan of Chelsea T., I didn't think she'd be the one to go...however, the judges love Kourtni and Comfort so I guess it wasn't a big shock that they stayed. Predicitions for next week: If Kourtni and Matt have a bad week again, they're gone next time. The judges have given them enough passes. I am also excited to see if I will like Thayne any better with a new partner. |
I was so surprised that Will and Jessica weren't in the bottom 3 too, I mean, for cripes sake, they almost ate it:confused: And, they lost the choreography for a couple of beats, and to me it was very noticeable.
I do think Will is AMAZING, but I would like to see him with a different partner. Not that Jessica sux or anything, and maybe anybody they pair with him is not going to shine because of his ability to "steal the spotlight", but I'd like to see! I was surprised that Chelsea was booted too, I thought it would be Kourtni (although I thought their jazz/contemporary routine was cool and well danced, and that they shouldn't have been in the bottom 3), I thought Chelsea's "dance for her life" was better, and that she is overall a better dancer. But, what do I know!! I took 2 years of ballet back when I was about 7, so I'm no expert!! I did think Chris was the right one to boot though. He sure seems like a nice kid, but he didn't make me feel the dance like some of the other guys. I thought the Mia Michaels group routine was kind of slow and uninteresting dance wise - just cuz the dancers are dressed freaky, doesn't mean the dance is freaky good! I didn't love it like the Shane Sparks one last week. |
I've got you beat, srmom, I took ballet in 2nd, 3rd AND 4th grades! Hahaha, and I'm about as graceful as an elephant! lol
I've been ready for Jessica to go home since day 1!! I didn't think Chelsie should have gone home, I think Chris was the right choice; he seemed nice enough, there was just something a little "off" about him. I think Will and Chelsea H. or Courtney G. would be good together! |
Poor Chelsea's dress was AWFUL this week. Anyone would have looked awkward and uncomfortable in that big ball of ugly silver fabric. I'm sad she went home but she and Thayne have fallen flat after Week 1. I love Comfort but I don't think she and Thayne will be a great couple - we'll see!! And what is up with the half-naked dresses this week???

They looked like dresses Edyta from DWTS would wear! |
I was really shocked Kourtni and Matt were in the bottom 3. They both rocked their solos though - especially Matt.

I too was surprised to see Kourtni and Matt in the bottom 3 over Jessica and Will- I think Jessica and Will's routine and the comments were too accommodating for her. Everyone on this show is there because they have strong technique and versatility- it's up to in the individual dancers to set themselves apart. This season, the caliber of performers has made it so that the dancers really have to go beyond technique in order to do well, but I haven't seen that from Jessica. I think she has been portrayed as a victim too much; yes, she has a superstar partner, but plenty of dancers in the past have partnered favorites and not fallen into the shadows.
Based off of the solos, I agreed with the decision to send Chelsea home. At this stage, it's really all about setting yourself apart and making yourself memorable- and that means taking risks with solos and not just showing off your jumps. I think the mistake some of the dancers make is relying on their technique alone, which, when competing with 15 other dancers of this caliber, just won't cut it. Chelsea's solo was very nice technically, but I think Kourtni's and Matt's solos really broke through that line between nice dancing and art. Chris really needed to go. I thought his personality was charming at first, but it got to the point where it seemed like he really couldn't take criticism and wasn't really listening to the judges. Being in the bottom three in the past should have woken him up to that fact, but it didn't. In other news... what was Cat Deely wearing during the results show?! She'd been doing so well this season wardrobe-wise, for her... good lord! |
Fleur De Lis' dream episode:
Twitch & Kherington - a Paso Doble with lots of lifts (can they be passionate/serious instead of cheesy and can she dance in heels?) Courtney & Gev - Krumping (I'd like to see him in his element and see if she can get down) Comfort & Thayne - Swing or Cha-Cha - something fun that can let personality come out! Kourtni & Matt - a Hip Hop by Tabitha & Napolean or Contemporary by Mia Michaels - let them show some personality or go home! Chelsea H. & Mark - Disco - I'd like to see them have some fun. Jessica & Will - a tango, hip hop, or disco that shows America she's really out of her league...oh wait  |
Is it just me, or does the choreography BLOW this season? Please, PLEASE bring back Brian Friedman. I'll deal with his hairstyle choices and the snazzy shirts, just for the love of all that is holy, make this show interesting to watch again. I was SO bored tonight, minus a few routines.
Random thing, Kherington reminded me of Mariska Hargitay during the Paso Doble. But I'm a big fan of her and Twitch, and Chelsie and Mark. I was really pulling for Kourtni and Matt, but they just lost it tonight. And this was the first night I was impressed with Katee. Jessica still needs to go. And the WTF of the night goes to Cat Deely's ensemble. |

I AGREE 100%!!! The dress looked like a goofy tuxedo....and made Cat look preggers. |
I agree with everything you just wrote!!!
I think the best and worst dancers are quickly separating, and I hope when the worst are gone, the choreography will drastically improve. Quote:

This year has been kinda blah for me. In the past years, I've found that the majority of the routines are really good and there's maybe one or two where my untrained eye noticed the dancers' mistakes. This season, there's maybe one or two routines that are good and the rest have a bunch of missed connections and slip-ups. This used to be one of my favorite shows and now I'm sorta indifferent towards it. I don't know what happened. I don't think they have as charismatic of dancers this year and the choreography sucks.
I don't see why the judges tongue-bathe Comfort during every performance. To me, she looks stiff and awkward...even when she did hip hop which is her speciality. I feel like they constantly give her a free pass that they don't give to the other dancers by saying, "It was really good for a hip-hopper!" I was glad that Nigel finally said something last night. |
I am still enjoying the season so far, but I agree with some of the comments that others are making. I don't feel like the majority of the original top 20 were/are memorable. Last season, I liked all but 2-3 couples...this year I am only pulling for 3-4 couples. I don't think all the routines are boring, but I think they are introducing too many new choreographers at once. I love Tabitha and Napoleon; they've replaced Shane Sparks very well IMO. But, I miss Wade...they need a good pop choreographer.
My top three last night: 1. Chelsie and Mark 2. Katee and Joshua 3. Twitch and Kherrington I bummed that I can't put Courtney and Gev in my top 3 this week (they are two of my favorites in the competition), but neither of their routines were fantastic where as the other three couples each had a stand-out dance. Bottom 3: 1. Thayne and Comfort 2. Will and Jessica 3. Kourtni and Matt Will obviously isn't going anywhere. I don't think Comfort is that special (Sarah from last year was certainly better), but the judges seem to love her, so she will stay. I still think Jessica sucks. And, I am still bitter that she made it and Kelli Baker (the choreographer's daughter) didn't. I can't decide if I think the judges will kick Jessica and Thayne to the curb tonight, or if they'll give them each one more chance and ax Kourtni and Matt, the perpetual bottom-dwellers. |
