Didn't one of the songs from the SP movie get nominated for an Academy Award?

nikki1920 11-21-2007 01:13 PM

Yes, it was Uncle F*****.

Once again, I am made to feel old. :(

Mystic...not 'little known" but ....' a little movie known as 'Song of the South"...

I was trying to give it a little bit of dramatic effect.

LOL

On the other hand, a lot of people younger than 40 don't know about that movie since Disney hasn't re-released it on video and is one of the few films that hasn't.

Back to the cartoons...when my kids were little, we had a complete ban on Barney in our house. One of the best decisions we ever made as parents. There is a new pre-schoolers show on Nickelodeon the big kids like for the music cartoons, I can't think of what it's called right now but I think it has punk/ska type references??? the one clip I saw hada ska guy singing about cleaning up your room...hilarious.

Are you talking about Yo! Gabba Gabba? That is the weirdest show I've ever seen, it is as if the members of Dee Lite decided to make a kids show. My other half wants to take visuals from that show and maybe some music, and mix it with bad club music for a party we're having. I think we're calling it "Club Subpeona" and it is going to be a tacky late 90's club with lots of shiny clothes and strobe lights. I also want to "serve" people with invitations.

Yeah we're dorks.

Yo Gabba Gabba

Yes! I haven't actually seen the show, just you tube stuff. But I have seen the Agrolites and the Aquabats.

Yeah, we're dorks, too...

Anyway, it's funny what I never saw as a kid and now understand as an adult. There was a Disney cartoon I saw a few months ago (can't remember which one) that I hadn't seen since I was a kid. I remember thinking, "Oh wow...there's a lot of innuendo in this movie!" but I never picked up on it as a kid.

Was is by any chance Hunchback of Notre Dame? That movie is full of sex. I would NEVER let my little sisters watch that movie. That man is singing all about "Hell Fire" and how he wants Desdemona, etc. etc. etc. CONTROL YOUR LOINS DISNEY!

{sigh} Now my hip is cracking.

True! And Miss Francis...and what would the PC of today think of the 1930s Popeye cartoons we watched on TV in the 1950s...and the violence of Tom & Jerry (*gasp*), not to mention RoadRunner cartoons!
Yeah...I've already had my knees replaced.

SWTXBelle 11-25-2007 09:19 AM

I liked "Hodge Podge Lodge". Sigh.

They keep saying that they are going to re-release it on DVD. I keep looking for it, I loved the stories.

Well it's still up for date based on the PC implications.

To some it's a peice of art entertainment history and to others, it's offensive.

I saw it when I was a child and remember my mom was kinda wierded out after seeing it. She has said that it was the first time seeing it as an adult and now I understand why.

Most of the anime out there still has a lot of Adult situations and plots that kids under certain ages shouldn't be allowed to get exposed to.

...and let's not even get into hentai....

So true! That situation makes many anime fans, including myself, mad. The thing is that we here in America view anime as cartoons for kids. That's why some of the best non-kid anime shows are not shown in America. The only two channels that they show this stuff is Adult Swim on Cartoon Network and The Anime Channel. Reason why they won't show other shows on television (even on the movie channels) is because of content, like nudity.

I want to make one thing clear, just because there is nudity, usually doesn't mean it's porn.

But here in America, many people view nudity as evil. Hello? What about the nude statues made centuries ago? Are they evil? No.

Another thing is that there is a certain anime show that I would like to see, but I would have to pay $80 for a DVD set of four or five episodes (that would equal close to $500 for the entire season set). One top of that, I would have to buy a multi-region DVD player. Also, if there was an anime that is avalible in America that is English dubbed. For the entire series or season, I would have to pay $40 or more for that, which is ridiculous.

If the parents don't like the material on TV, they should turn off the TV. Let their kids read a book. Books are great. On that note, even some manga books are censored.

By the way, what do you guys think about Dora the Explorer? Sorry that this a long post, guys.
