Yea, dad might be a "doctor" but whose to say that although he looks like a big shot, the practice isn't about to go into bankruptcy.

Coming from the south, I knew enough about sororities to realize that someone might verify and collect more information.
But I agree that knowing what a parent does tells only part of the story. A chapter should not assume that a mother or father who is in a blue collar profession doesn't have a million in the bank. I think most collegians and advisers would agree that the most important thing is not whether the PARENTS have money, but whether the PNM has the financial responsibility to handle money wisely and be current on her dues. My roommate paid all of her college expenses as well as dues, and she did so by holding down a restaurant manager job while also going to school full time. And maintaining a high GPA.
Conversely, there were plenty of women in my chapter who had a lot of family money and they didn't know the first thing about fiscal responsibility.
