So from that, I don't see how the original question you posted was misread. Most of the posters who responded gave an answer that any reasonable person would give, whether they are an ASU student, a student at OU, Duke, an alum or a parent of a member. I regret that you feel you have been treated poorly, but the recommendation that we "need to get a life" is a bit out of line. I do take offense to that and so would many others. Quote:

All the best to you and your daughter as she begins college. ASU is a wonderful school with a great Greek System. |

The Panhellenic Creed
We, as Undergraduate Members of women's fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities. We, as Fraternity Women, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live. Those of us who belong to a group in the NPC recognize that all of our organizations have a rich tradition and history. All of our organizations have stellar chapters and chapters that struggle. All of our organizations have certain expectations in common: Philanthropy, Scholarship, and Maintaining high ideals of womanhood. Therefore, in the Panhellenic spirit, we are not going to dish out "dirt" on any chapter at any university on a public internet forum. Additionally, the stereotypes that usually conveyed in response to a question such as your original question are usually wrong, like all stereotypes. The best thing for your daughter to do is to go through recruitment, meet the women, think about which groups she feels connected with and attempt to get a bid from one of those groups through the formal recruitment system. It is kind of like buying a new house.. all houses have the same basic structure, but for some reason, when you walk into the right one, you know it. |

Sometimes it doesn't matter how nicely you say something, compared to how some people get treated on this board we rolled out the red carpet for this helicopter mom. |

Had I know what a bitch this woman was going to be, I wouldn't have bothered with the niceties. ETA: I think the reason (for future newbies' reference) why she "got the red carpet rolled out" is because, even though her question was inappropriate, she was still polite (at first) about it, and took the time to form spesfic questions. Unlike the huge amount of post-and-runs we get on here that start a thread saying "Tell me the reputations of the chapters at State U". I really believe that people get out of their answer what they put into their question. You make and effort, we make an effort. However, there are still certain questions, such as this one and NPHC membership questions, that never have and never will be answered here on GC, no matter how nicely the question is wrapped up. |
