The salt and pepper are probably nice grinders. |
A college roommate registered for furniture at Pottery Barn. She got married pretty soon after she graduated--I thought it was a little pricey at the time as most of us had just gotten our first jobs.
I was once invited to the wedding of an acquaintance (the invite was emailed to me--no joke. Pretty tacky, huh?) The bride was a pretty strict vegetarian and registered for 2 Vera Wang shrimp servers. ??? |
So, did most of you who are married register for the whole trio aka silver/china/crystal??
When we got married we only registered for fine china(along with reg china). I didn't want crystal or silver because I knew I'd never ever use them. My mom thought I was making a huge mistake. Almost 5 years later, I have used the fine china about 8 times, and still would never have used the crystal or silver. My cousin, who got married last September, didn't register for any of that. I was just curious what th emajority of folks are doing these days, I guess. |
We didn't register for any of that either, we just registered for really good everyday Noritake and flatware (and didn't even receive all the place settings for that -- what if you only get 5 of your 10 registered sets? I didn't want to buy all that china myself). Between my mother and grandmother, I'll probably end up with 2 or 3 sets of fine china and silver some day and we don't do a lot of "formal" dining here at home either. We had other things we needed for the house more or frankly, were happy with cash gifts that we could spend ourselves.

We've only registered at two places. BBB and Home Depot. My fiance is thrilled with the home depot registry and going online to pick out stuff. |
The daughter of one of my friends registered for an animal-shaped toilet brush - I really wanted to buy it, but someone else beat me to it.
I registered for everything (fine china, crystal, etc.) but if I had to do it all again, I would only register for Christmas china. |
We registered for fine china and nice stemware. I make a point to use it often, so it was worth it to me. However, I didn't want to be polishing forks before a big dinner, so we just use our everyday flatware.

Your Home Depot mention reminded me of my brother -- he married a true southern belle from an "old" Atlanta family with deep local ties, people came out of the woodwork wanting to throw her bridal showers (she ended up having 8 and many, many requests were politely turned down). Their registry was done by the 2nd shower so they started "farming out" the themes and gift lists. My brother scored because at least 2 of them turned into "power tool" showers for him. |
I registered for china and crystal, as I had grown up in a family where these were used often. I too will inherit several sets from my mother, but just didn't want to wait that long.
We did receive everything we registered for, and we do use them, as that is what they are for. I am terrible at housework, I can't sew, I am not the least bit crafty, but I can make one helluva table setting! When we were first married, we lived in a tiny apartment that was too small to entertain in. We would break out the china and use it to eat pizza off of.... and then get a bottle of wine for the crystal. Somehow even frozen pizza tastes good when served on good dinnerware and paired with a great bottle of wine! (we wore jeans when we used it though... shhh- don't tell!!!!!) |
The one thing that my brother really, REALLY wanted from the registry is this toaster. Not just any toaster. A toaster that also poaches eggs. He's envisioning homemade egg-mcmuffins every day. I figured, meh, if that's what he's excited about, then cool. So I'll get that for the shower because they've already got a lovely house and can use it right away, and then get something special for their actual wedding gift (probably something bigger that FH and I can go in on together).
I adore the china pattern she chose too, it's really simple and classy. |
We are using my mom's china (but we did register for casual china). As far as silver, his grandmother gave us the family tea service. We'll get the rest of his grandmother's set and his mother's set eventually so we saw no need to ask for even more! We skipped crystal. No room for it! Again, we'll get his mom's eventually...
