Sister Alpha Gam
"Here's the thing...I have no doubt the stuff she writes about goes on. But I do know that honest to effin' god I've never seen massive eating disorders (and this is going for all five NPCs and the three NPHCs), there is no drug room, no one gets hazed, and being a slut isn't glorified by anyone, much less the girls. "
......
I'm neither pro or con "Pledged". I enjoyed reading it, but I'm far enough removed from my sorority days that I can sit back and take much of it with a grain of salt. I wasn't at all offended by it, as I knew that much of it happened in one of the campus houses if it didn't in ours.
My dear sister, I saw the Eating Disorders. Not just in my house, but in other houses and with non-Greeks. Keep in mind, Eating Disorders don't involve only starving or vomiting. Yes, we had those. But ED sufferers take laxitives, diet pills, and diuretics, they also "chew and spit". They can be compulsive exercisers, too, which was my Eating Disorder. In my house, we had every eating disorder that I have ever researched.
As far as I know, there wasn't much drug use (what I saw was very limited), but there was lots of alcohol abuse. Grain alcohol parties were the norm on Friday nights. And, we did have our share of sluts. I remember one sister that every Saturday morning would wake up with one of two things in bed with her: either a guy who she didn't remember from the TG or a Pizzathat she had no recollection of ordering.
The most hazing I saw in our house were the pre-arranged raids by a friendly Fraternity -- no biggie.
