It's a reality...

Very cool! I wonder how they picked lots...drew straws?
|
And it looks like there's room for expansion for 2 houses, next to DG and next to ZTA. Is that accurate? I haven't been there so I don't know the space in real life.

I wonder why this is just now being posted? AOII's house is almost done and should be ready for recruitment this fall. I think the groups are staggered a bit and some won't be ready until spring or next fall, but some are done/almost done.

Please see a recent news report on NPC housing progress at UTK:
http://www.therepublic.com/view/stor...rority-Village From previous news stories it appears that a couple of contractors had financial problems (not too surprising in these troubled economic times), so construction got delayed on some houses. The report cited above says the houses that will open in the first phase are: . . . chapters with houses opening in the first phase are Delta Zeta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Delta Pi and Sigma Kappa.” Hope all this hasn't been posted already; I didn't see it anywhere and I did search............ |
I just read an article that 6 of the groups have begun move in and will be hosting recruitment in their houses. The remaining chapters will be hosting recruitment in the panhellenic building with bus service provided between the two locations. I'll rummage around and see if I can find it for posting.
This is not the article that I read earlier, but it is directly from the university. It states that seven houses will be opening this semester. I'll keep looking. http://www.utk.edu/tntoday/2012/07/17/sorority-village-welcomes-fall-semester/ http://www.utk.edu/tntoday/2012/07/1...llage-project/ |
How exciting for them!

"Sorority fall recruitment is set for August 19—26 at the Panhellenic Building on Cumberland Avenue and at the completed properties within Sorority Village, with transportation provided between the two locations." I assume it will be buses. My personal opinion is that they should hold recruitment one last time in the Panhellenic building, at least until almost all 13 sororities are in their houses. That being said, three of the strongest recruiting chapters will not have their houses available, and I don't think that will impact those chapters poorly at all. |
In the other GC thread (with drawings) about new UTN sorority housing I noticed part of AOII's roof had an unusual two-or-three story steep curve. It looked like it could catch rainwater above/near the front entrance. Is this some kind of 'green' housing required by the university?
