I have been married to my Sigma for almost 7 years and we have been together for 10. For me I am glad that I married another person who is part of the Greek world. I truly think I would not have had a successful relationship with anyone that is a GDI. They definitely would not understand my passion for DST.

When I met my husband I had just crossed so I was always doing Delta business. Luckily he was really involved in his chapter even though he had crossed 5 years before me. One way to ease into the discussion is to make sure to invite him to come to events that he can come to. Community Service, Bowling Parties, etc. so he can see your passion and committment. Maybe that will get him to be involved with his Fraternity.

Although my beau and I are not married, I found this thread to be interesting. He is not affiliated with a greek org, however, he has been very understanding of my sorority time commitments, even those that lasted over a long period of time and really limited our together time. I tried to explain to him ahead of time the amount of time that would be required so I don't know if that helped. And I also don't allow our together time to be taken up so drastically on a regular basis, so I don't know if that helped.
I don't know if he would be less understanding if we were married or more understanding if he was greek. However, he is also really busy with his involvement in his community orgs and professional orgs so he had other things that he could do when I wasn't around. I wonder how much it has to do with a man having a busy life of his own vs. being greek or not? Not sure b/c he has also been understanding of other non-greek stuff, like when I was basically underground for three months studying for the bar exam. SC |
I think it is a combination of both. What also needs to taken into consideration is the strength of the relationship and trust. You know as Sorors we are around the Omegas a great deal, and most people know about how close we are.
I agree with you that not letting the Greek involvement interfere with your time is the key to a smooth balance of both. |
I know this is a few years old, but there hasn't been much activity on this board.
I've noticed that a lot of Sigma Chi alums are married to Alpha Phi's and a lot of Sigma Nu alums are married to Gamma Phi Beta's in my area. I guess it's different at every school. |
