I do understand the airline's dilemma and don't think they were out of line, but I don't think it was their responsibility to do this, either. Personally, if you take your kid out in public, they're going to be exposed to things you don't want them exposed to. Hey, chances are that they've already been exposed to naughty language on the elementary school playground. My thought on it is . . . if they don't already know what it means, they probably won't care. When you're 6, EVERYONE around you is wearing a tee shirt that you don't understand, and most 6-year-olds would rather go play than figure them all out. (I would like to reference the time that I watched "Dirty Dancing" when I was 9 -- ten years later I watched it again and said, "OMG, there's an ABORTION in that movie?" My 9-year-old self didn't have a clue -- it went right over my head.) And for those kids who do know what the f-bomb means -- well, you're really too late to protect them from it.

There's a difference in someone walking down the street with an obscene shirt and someone on a plane with one. For one, I don't pay money to walk down the street, but I do pay quite a bit for a plane ticket. Secondly, I can steer my child elsewhere on a street. It's not as easy to get away from something on a plane.

If my child ever sees someone wearing an obscene article of clothing and asks me about it, I'll simply say that it's not an appropriate thing to wear, and that classy ladies would never own, much less wear, something like that.

ETA: I'm with you about kids not understanding mature subjects in movies. As a kid, I watched Grease so many times that I wore the tape out, but it wasn't until much later that I realized what some of those songs were really talking about. And that bar scene in Top Gun where Goose and Maverick are making bets on having "carnal knowledge of a woman"? I didn't have a clue what they were talking about the first few times I saw that film. I had to get a few years older before I understood the humor. ;) :D

For those of you talking about airlines...

Fly Midwest whenever possible. I love them. I get a leather seat and cookies.

Hey, I agree. I flew them from DEN to MKE a while ago and was very impressed.

They are really really great - same prices or better than the other carriers, and you actually get leg room! I've been flying between MSP and MKE a lot and they are the only way I will fly.
