Box 135 in Whoever, TX 77654, i will QUICKLY add that to be 130.

LOL, tell me why I do this, but only with license plate numbers!

Another terrible habit of mine is biting the skin around my nails, I also check to see if the stove, curling iron, clothing iron or anything is else unplugged 13,000 times before I leave my apt. I also do the same to make sure my door is locked!

So do I! Now i can talk on the phone and not miss what is going on the TV! My hubby didn't get it at first but now he understands and we have it on both our TV's. Sometimes I don't hear everything/missed what they said but if i read it i understand a lot better!

You are not alone!

blackerican 09-26-2005 07:42 PM

When I'm home alone I turn on the TV so it sounds like there are people in the house with me. For example, I'll turn on the TV in my son's room and be in my room reading a book (I don't have a TV in my room).

I also like to sleep with both my legs out but my chest must be covered with the sheet.

Box 135 in Whoever, TX 77654, i will QUICKLY add that to be 130.

then, after i do that, i divide that number by 2, get the half and then mentally cluster numbers together that equal the half amount. using the example above, half of 130 is 65 so i could put these numbers together: [1 9 9 9 1 8 1 2 3 3 4 6 9] and [7 8 2 4 6 1 3 5 7 7 6 5 4] taken from the numbers above.

i know it's weird and it seems like a lot but i can do it all in a matter of seconds. it's also a nuance because i HAVE to count EVERYTHING. sometimes, i try not to and i still do. it's so weird but i HAVE to do it. that's why i don't really like odd numbers because if i add everything up and it equals an odd number, i roll my eyes as if it has pissed me off. and i'll count the same thing over and over. if i'm driving, i'll count all the numbers in the speed number sign everytime i see it. then, if i'm watching a long commercial for a product that you order off the <a href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=1&k=t%20v" onmouseover="window.status='<a href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=1&k=t%20v" onmouseover="window.status='<a href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=1&k=t%20v" onmouseover="window.status='t.v'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">t.v</a>'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">t.v</a>'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">t.v</a>., i'll count-divide-cluster them repeatedly until the commercial goes off.

i have others but i'm sure that this one is weird enough for you all to be thinking "she aint the teacher of crunk, she the teacher of CRAZY!" so i won't share anymore. but, at least you all know that because of this, you can't hang with me on the domino table because i count EVERY play and know what possible plays my opponent has and i play accordingly. :p

Wow! This is really complicated but makes me feel so much better. I have amild form of OCD where everything has to be symmetrical and I count numbers over and over again, in a palindromic way (but with numbers, not letters/words). It used to bother the crap out of my family because I do this aloud and for the longest no one knew what the heck I was doing. After I told them they still didn't undersstand but at least knew what was going on.

I also have issues with hairs. I cannot have random hairs anyplace in my house.

I also (unfortunately) pull out my eyelashes one by one and look at each lash rolling it between my fingers and examining the little piece of membrane that attaches to the lid. It's bad when I am stressed and I usually have huge spaces of eyelash missing at any given time. I then line them up from shortest to longest and in the pattern they'd be if still atached to my eyelid.

I cannot have anything touch my feet (i.e. like little pieces of crap from say on my floor since there is a no shoes rule in my house) or I LOSE IT!

I also sleep on my stomach, face down. My brothers used to tease me so I modified it and now I sleep on my chin with BOTH arms by my side so my full weight is supported by my chin.

I also sleep with my eyes mostly open. Not the open where it's like a little bit of pupil showing but OPEN  type of open.

I also don't have a problem sleeping with one eye shut and one eye totally open (i.e during class, etc...I do the same when I am driving late and I stop at a light and I need to keep one eye on the light for when it turns green).

The foot/cover thing, the closed door/sleep thing and the can't sleep unless quiet thing, also, but these listed above are definitely the "weirdest."

Oh my goodness. Girl that would scare the hell out of me if I walked in and saw you sleeping like that. I would be on the way to the phone to call you some help. Of course, the picture in my mind may be worse than it really is. I'm seeing you on your stomach w/your arms down by your sides. Your neck stretched out so that the weight of your head is resting on your chin (almost looking straight forward). Your eyes wide open w/a blank stare in them. No offense, but it sounds a little bit creepy.

I CANNOT enjoy a movie/show unless the closed caption is on! Call me strange, but I need to know for sure what's being said.

Nails and Numbers

I am a NOTORIOUS nail biter. I have tried everything and I just can't seem to break the habit. I also count the number of letters in words. Like if I see the word "everything" I first try to guess how many letters are in it and then I confirm my guess by counting them. My first guess is accurate at least 90% of the time, which I guess I am proud of for some weird reason. . . .

preciousjeni 09-28-2005 02:33 PM

Y'all got me thinking of others. I understand where you counters are coming from. I have a similar habit. I SPELL things randomly in my head.

For example, if someone is talking to me and says:

Quote:

I went to this restaurant and got some tortellini.
My mind hears:

Quote:

I went to this restaurant and got some t-o-r-t-e-l-l-i-n-i.
I do it so quickly that sometimes I don't notice. But, occasionally I'll start thinking hard about it and stop listening to the person altogether. When someone says, "what are you thinking about?" because I have a stupid expression on my face, I just have to say "nothing" so I don't stank myself out.

DELTABRAT 09-28-2005 02:43 PM

Oh, and one more, I am a chronic acronym maker. I do it all the time and it either bugs the hell out of people or...well, usually just bugs.

If someone says," I'm sick and tired of this" I'll say "yeah, I'm a little SATOT, too."

SICK!

Re: the eyes, yeah, it freaked my brothers way out. I can't see so I don't know the degree to which they're open but I've had my SO say the same thing, so...

christiangirl 10-01-2005 03:43 AM

I have an analogy for EVERYTHING. I'm very thorough so anytime I say something questionable, I always have something to liken it to so I know people get what I mean. Also, I like to turn on the fan to make the room real cold before I go to bed. Then I can snuggle in my blanket better.

mo_mo17 10-01-2005 07:54 PM

I tend to talk about things in commercial language.

For example:

My car insurance. Instead of saying I'm with geico. I tend to say I saved 15% or more with geico.

Fast food. Wendy's. I'll say I love wendy's they make it fresh when you order it. etc.

Another bad habit. I pick up on the speech patterns of others.

Rain Man 10-01-2005 09:19 PM

I eat Hot Pockets/Lean Pockets with a knife and fork (like I am doing right now--the cheeseburger kind--delicious).

I reference events in my life by year--i.e., I don't say "Back when I was in 8th grade...", I say, "Back in 1987, I was...".

Taking it one step further, I have a sharp ability to recall events by day of the week, month, day, and year. For example, I kissed a girl for the first time on Monday, July 31, 1989 (at about 4:50 p.m.). Or, I got my last butt whoopin' Friday, December 27, 1985.

And so on, and so on...

Tickled Pink 2 10-01-2005 11:26 PM

Sometimes, if I'm having trouble sleeping - I'll turn on old black & white movies (like on TCM or AMC) & they knock me out. When I worked at night, I would turn on the old B&W sitcoms on TVLand during the day and fall out ( i.e. I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke Show, Mr. Ed). I think something about the simplicity of those shows calms me... go figure.

If I've been around someone for too long with a heavy accent I'll catch myself using their accent (i.e. someone with a heavy southern twang will cause me to twang after a while... ...or for example - hanging around a Jamiaican or someone from Guyana - I'll cut my words a little shorter also...) It's really annoying. I'll catch myself and force myself to stop. The only one I've noticed that I haven't picked up was someone from Boston.
:o

I love words, their meanings, and am fascinated by new words. For instance, I know that autovoxiphilia is the love of one's own voice.:p

1flypoodle 10-02-2005 12:02 AM

-my house shoes/slides have to be directly on the side of the bed I got in on when i go to sleep

-All 6 of my pillows have to be in a specific positioning and my cover and sheets have to be neatly prepared for me to get in my bed

-I have to let the phone ring at least twice before I pick it up

-I always have to sleep with something on: t.v., fan, radio, something that makes noise.
