Now you went and got me all nostalgic. <sniff!> So I dug out my old pledge ribbon. I feel so ancient. The safety pin is all rusted.
|
When I pledged Kappa Phi, instead of using the pledge pin supplied by our HQ, we got blue, green, and white ribbons instead. :)
|
We gave our ribbons and our pledge pins back... I have neither. :(
|
Our girls wear their rose pins at all times, but we have to give them back at the end of pledging (booo)...but the ribbon thing sounds interesting.
|
at clemson, we give out bid day bags to new members with their letters on them.

When I pledged (yup, I was back in the dark ages of pledgin) all of the houses gave their pledges ribbons on bid day. We had a ceremony and our temporary big sister pinned the ribbon on us. At the first meeting of the school year, we had the ceremony to receive our pledge pin. Once we received out pledge pin, we did not wear our bid ribbons again. I have my bid card and most of my pledge stuff, but unfortunately, don't still have my ribbon. Our pledge pin was turned in when we received out 2nd pin before inititation.

Hey stef the pef
where do y'all get the cute KD pins to go with your ribbons at baylor? |
I'm not sure, but I sad bulletin board pushpins made from the same silver pin design, so they probably got them in bulk from one of the local sorority gift shops (maybe Pics and Gifts) here in Waco? I don't know, but there's probably a place online that carries them, too.

I've never heard of the ribbon idea, but I love it! I think it's great, inexpensive and cute idea to unify the girls since they don't have a whole bunch of lettered stuff yet!
|
We wore our Rose and Green ribbons with pride! And here's a tip for you all... in order to prevent the ends of the ribbons from fraying, put a little clear nail polish on them. It's worked for decades of Delta Zetas! In fact, my ribbons are 18 years old and they look brand new!

I've never heard of Fray Check. What is it and where do you buy it?
My ribbons aren't frayed.. but the rust from the safety pin has leeched in to the ribbons, so they have some brown spots on them. I like to think they have character! I took out my old lavalier from it's box (it was in a clear box with a blue sponge-like bottom) and the spongy-stuff melted in to the chain. It was a mess! I brought it in to a jeweler, and they were able to clean it up nicely. We received our 14k gold lavaliers when we received our pledge ribbons. Does anybody else give those anymore? (This was over 20 years ago!) |
