question ladies,
does this means that when all the award shows come 'round we'll have to sit through Sexual Chocolate without laughing???

I mean this just might restart his music career (oh lawd).
Can't you just see late night infomercials selling "boogie in your butt" (was that eddie trying to come out then??? ooh, i shouldna said that, but your laughing now, so does it matter that i did?)

I loved this movie! Cried at J Hud's version of AIATY!! Beyonce was okay but still needs alot of work if she is to be an actress. I can't wait till it comes out on DVD!!

One more thing...wasn't it interesting to see the comparison of Dreamgirls with Destiny's Child? And LeToya (Effie) making a come back? ;)

When was Dreamgirls ever compared to Destiny's Child?

I saw the movie with my daughter and since she is a big Beyonce fanatic I think she was a little disappointed. For me, the highlight was seeing Danny Glover, Eddie Murphy and Jamie all on screen together at once. I also think that Jennifer was created just for this role. Couldn't nobody play this but her! :)

It was good that this play/movie has a happy feel good ending because the real life story "Effie" character it is somewhat based upon, ends very tragically. :(

They weren't compared in the movie. What I mean is both groups have a lot of similarities with their experiences. For example, Beyonce sang lead when the group took off, a member was dropped from the group, then made a comeback (Effie: Letoya), and the Dreamettes experience with the talent show in the beginning of the movie could be compared to DC's experience with Star Search . Those are just a few. But I didn't mean that they were compared in the movie.

I didn't know that this was actually based on a true story. Wow, interesting.

I loved how similar the movie was to the play. They did an AMAZING job with this. I keep watching the making of clips, they actually had someone sketch every scene. Truly amazing!

The original Broadway show was loosely based on the story of the Supremes.

I checked out Wikipedia yesterday and found out some interesting facts on Dreamgirls - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamgirls

Saw it last night. Really liked it. Theater was packed at every single showing.

But not because of Beyonce. She had some REALLY cute outfits (especially the black one with the hat) and her body slimmer and excessive makeup were doing her well. But she can't act, I'm REALLY realizing that she can't sing all that well, and I saw her role as art imitating life. Foxx told her that he chose her to sing lead because her voice has no depth or soul--TIS TRUE!! I always thought she was a talented woman for her writing, singing and producing--she still is--but considering there's debate as to whether she's as young as she claims, her skills are average at best.

Oh yeah and I got tired at one point and wanted the movie to end. Around the time Beyonce's character was supposed to be "finding herself." LOL. Just find J. Hudson for us and let us go home. The folks in the theater clapped numerous times throughout the movie for J. Hudson and even cheered at the end when it said "introducing."

I liked the other Dreamgirl's character, Foxx, and Murphy also.

What type of ISHT is this!?!?!?

from Yahoo News:

"Dreamgirls" saw a major surge in business, averaging a whopping $18,192 per screen as Paramount rolled it out slowly with word-of-mouth creating a buzz. It was showing on just 852 screens, compared to 3,768 for "Night at the Museum."

"Dreamgirls," the first musical sensation since "Chicago" in 2002, will expand to about 1,800 screens on Jan. 12.

Kamryn 12-31-2006 11:49 PM

That's crazy!
That explains why we had to leave our CITY to see it in the boondocks!
None of the theatres had it showing in our area.
Then they're expanding to 1,800 on Jan. 12??? That's not even half of "Night at the Museum!"
Hmmm...wow...

Kamryn 12-31-2006 11:53 PM

Thanks for all the info 1browngirl, DSTChaos, and CT4! I really didn't know all of that.

Like I kept telling my daughter, "this is not all about your beloved Beyonce and Destiny's Child". LOL!

Thanks CT4! I didn't grow up with the Supremes, (cause I'm not that old) but I fell in love with the Mary Wilson's books about her life as a Supreme. If you read the books, you will love Florence Ballard. That was why Jennifer's character was so real.
