Unfortunately, I think a lot of young males think like this throughout adolescence. Hopefully, they will grow out of this type of "group thought" as they mature. I've seen it happen numerous times: pretty dark-skinned girls get no play in high school and then, wham! College is a entirely different story--especially if they are confident and haven't let other folks' issues with color brow-beat them. And then there are always men of other races. If a significant majority of black men are only attracted to light-skinned women, then why not start looking in "other" directions?

From a recent article I read...
Quoted from the article "Study: Darker Skinned Job Applicants Face More Obstacles" from Diverse - Issues in Higher Education:
Well, that's obvious, but I didn't know it was that bad.... "We found that a light-skinned Black male can only have a bachelor's degree and typical work experience and still be preferred over a dark-skinned Black male with an MBA and past managerial positions." |

Well....
If you are black your skin will always be an issue whatever complexion in this country (maybe to your advantage, maybe to your disadvantage), and we all know who started that mess...but come on who wants to be identified with something that has been labeled ugly...ie anything African (although it is certainly not), as a matter of fact the majority of the men i see who refuse to date dark skinned women are dark skinned themselves, they are trying to lighten up their blood line and that goes for dark skinned women who only date lighter skinned men....and light skinned men and women who want to maintain their light skinned blood line and won't date anything darker then them, whatever the case, self hate is perpetuated in our race in so many ways its just ridiculous. Now, I think its great to educate our young people on black beauty but if we don't really feel all shades of black are equally beautiful then its just talk....i dont' think we are there yet......:(

I find that hair type has been a bigger issue with some people, especially among the "neutral" toned. They would rather have a "blood line" with "good" hair and dark skin than one white as snow with naps.
