Ha, up on my hill we call it the Inner Sunset, or Golden Gate Heights. I have always liked "The Avenues", but people that don't know the difference between the Sunset and the Richmond can get confused. One of the best theme parties I ever attended was when everyone dressed up as different neighborhoods.

I want to SLAP people that refer to my home city as Frisco, or my home state as Cali, unless they are quoting an LL Cool J song.

The area where I attend school is called the Palouse. There are rolling hills, not a lot of trees, and most of the wheat grown in the U.S. is produced there, as well as lentils and peas. There is amazing 19th century architecture, and some of the greek chapter houses are on the National Register of Historic Places. Lewis and Clark spent time in the area as well.

I live in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia and it is known as the Mainline. (Places like Villanova, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Haverford are all in this region).

As for Philly, I've heard it called Filth-adelphia.

Also, some parts of PA are pretty rural, so sometimes the state can be referenced as Pennsyl-tucky, but I haven't heard that too often.

Yea my hometown Gulf Breeze, FL is about like 45 min from AL in the northwest corner of FL.
"GB" - Gossip Breeze (because we are such a small beach town, EVERYONE knows EVERYONE's biz)
"Dead Lands" - b/c a lot of pple in my town are retired lol
"The REAL O.C." - hahaha, this is what the newer kids at Gulf Breeze High call us now...plus our high school is known as "THE high school where the students' parking lot looks better than the teachers' parking lot" b/c like 75% of the student's parking lot is filled with BMWs... (and no I didn't drive a BMW, I was one of those poor kids driving a "cheap" Corolla lol)
"Lawyer Land" - b/c like 1/2 of the Breezers I went to HS with are from lawyer families, so it's this constant, "u touch a single hair of mine, & MY dad's law firm will UP ur dad's law firm...etc" it's the most ridiculous thing ever...that is prolly the reason why, during all my years in HS, I only saw ONE fight lol...& it was my jr yr & it was between two freshmen girls pullin each other's hair out...not exactly a fight... but that was the closest thing to it.
"The World's Whitest Beaches" - ummm that phrase is on the obnoxiously HUGE sign heading over the beach (and I do agree that our beaches are white, like blinding white too when it's sunny & bright)...FL's Gulf Coast (where my town is on facing the Gulf of Mexico) is the supposedly the whitest b/c our "sand" isn't sand but it's actually coral broken down over like a bizillion years or so.. ohh and our water is totally this amazing sparkling clear emeraldish color
"The International Center of UFO Sightings" - believe me, in all my 18 yrs living in GB, I have NEVER seen a UFO...but back in the 1980's, there were reported UFO sightings/occurances in my town and it was documented and seen MORE than any other place on Earth...

'Inside the perimeter' of Atlanta is the area inside I-285 which makes a circle around greater Atlanta, is pretty much the downtown Atlanta (including Buckhead Area, the 'Beverly Hills of Atlanta').

Back home, I'm either from the "River Cities" (Ironton, OH, Ashland, KY, and Huntington, WV) also known as the Tri-State.

and El Chuco. So named because of all the peopl from Los Angeles that came down. Back in the days of the zoot suits, many people (mostly Mexicans) were having to leave Los Angeles for some reason or another, so they came down here to El Paso. These zoot suiters were calledPachucos and so when men were either getting ready to leave, or trying to figure out where to go, they would say Vamos pa el chuco and so that is how El Paso got the nickname, El Chuco.

My area is called "The Right Side of the Tracks."

I live in what they call "the bay area" or what they also call "the peninsula" but whatever really. I actually live outside the city in a little place called Pacifica, CA.

Like someone already said, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill are called The Triangle. I've often heard of North Carolina called
North Cackilacky-although for the life of me I can't imagine what idiot came up with that one. Or what the hell it means. Or if I'm even spelling it right!! :rolleyes:

I also heard that about South Carolina when I was in Tennessee a bunch in 03.

Both my mother and grandmother were raised in San Antonio and they taught me NEVER to say "San Antone."

Actually, it's the 'Arklatex', for Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. While the far southeastern corner of Oklahoma is nearby, it's not counted in the acronym.

Some wags in Dallas call the cities of Highland Park and University Park "the Bubble", because of its enclave of affluence surrounded by the city of Dallas. Officially, they prefer the 'Park Cities'.
