12:30 AM CST... looks like the decision is ALMOST complete ... and now the lawyers start making a mess of things  And I say that if Florida can't figure out how to vote without all these problems, they don't get to vote next time! Good Lord, how hard can it BE???? |

Except that we're waiting on Ohio this year, not Florida ;) It's ok, honest mistake. What i actually heard on the radio driving back to school was that the Florida Election Commission(or whatever their title what) was greatly pleased with the improvments they had made since 2000. KS 361 |

Kerry now needs to take about 5 out of every six votes in OH . . . and there's something like 600,000 votes left including provisionals. That would be incredible, nearly impossible. Iowa won't be decided tonight due to rural counties with broken optical scanners - these are strongly Bush counties, but it probably shouldn't matter b/c a.) Kerry has a moderate lead and b.) w/out OH it won't matter. It's pretty close to over, in actuality. ETA: Bush is now up in Iowa, with 96% of the votes in . . . only the three rural counties are left. Bush wins Iowa. |
.... it's 249/211 in favor of Bush right now.... (at least according to CNN.com)

Michigan to Kerry
Minnesota to Kerry Hawaii to Kerry bush 249 Kerry 242 |
Now it's Ohio's turn to be the butt of election jokes... it's about time Florida gets left alone!

Compare this to Iowa, where the Secretary of State is a gigantic moron and is setting up some fairly bizarre situations - Culver used to teach his American history students at Hoover that atomic weapons were dangerous for years after the initial blast not due to radiation, but instead 'poison gas' . . . unreal. This could be a massive, totally worthless fiasco. |
I applaud Ohio for apparantely making every effort to get this done right.
I did not have that feeling four years ago from Florida. No matter what the final outcome, neither candidate can claim a mandate from the voters. I fervently hope that we never have to go through a campaign as vicious as this one again. I met two broadcasters from the Ukraine a couple of weeks ago, and was really ashamed at what they were seeing and hearing leading up to this election. I was very impressed last night when, after Pete Coors' concession speech, Senator Elect Ken Salazar shouted down a supporter who must have yelled something (which wasn't picked up by the mic) derogatory about Mr. Coors. In the final weeks of a tough, name calling, campaign, both organizations seemed to take a more conciliatory approach to the election. Unfortunately, neither "national" campaign working in "support" of the candidates did and the name calling was disgusting. |
